Benefits to Students•Minimal cost eases anxiety about money for books

•Increased availability allows access to material before and after classes if needed. (As opposed to selling back the textbook right away to try and replenish cash sources, or waiting until the first week is over to buy the book for the class. )

•Materials are more tailored to the specific class, eliminating all the extra text they feel they need to wade through.

Benefits to Teachers•Large selection of materials – text, worksheets, and videos.

•Happier students = happier teacher.

•Can finally find/make text and videos that work for their class, and not the general subject.

Challenges to Students•New formatting is always daunting. Some classes where the material is given through online sources intimidate students who are not as comfortable with computers.

•If teachers have edited the text, the student is missing that “extra piece” for when they want to learn more.

Challenges to Teachers•Finding appropriate material – both well formatted and of quality workmanship.

•Finding time to find all the material, and making sure it’s open licensed.

•Making material and sharing it, but not having it be shared properly through others who are unaware of the open license attribution system.
