Dirk Wiese MP, Parliamentary State Secretary at the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy

Dirk Wiese was appointed Parliamentary State Secretary for the Fe-deral Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy on 27 January 2017. The main focus of his work is digital and industrial policy. He is 34 years old, and married, with one child. After having completed com-pulsory civilian service, Mr Wiese studied law at the universities of

Marburg and Münster, passing the first state examination in 2008. Two years later, he completed the second state examination. He has been a Member of the Bundestag since 2013, representing the constituency of Hochsauerland in North Rhine-Westphalia.

Roland Göhde, Chairman of the Board, German Healthcare Partnership

Roland Göhde is the Senior Managing Director of the biotechnology company Sysmex Partec GmbH. Since 2014, Göhde has been the Chairman of the Board of the German Healthcare Partnership (GHP) and has been a Member of the Board of the German-African Business Association. In these honorary functions, he supports improved cooperation between associations, networks and initiatives in the

healthcare sector. In addition, Göhde is the main initiator of the “Action Group on Ebola” and the “German-African Healthcare Symposium”, launched in 2014. In 2017, he has been appointed as member of the World Health Summit Council.

Iris Plöger, Member of the BDI Executive Board, Federation of German Industries (Bundesverband deutscher Industrie e.V.)

Iris Plöger studied law in Kiel and in the United Kingdom. She then worked as an academic assistant at the Institute for Economic and Tax Law at Christian Albrechts University in Kiel, Germany. After passing the Second State Examination in Law she worked as a lawyer specializing in competition and IT law at the international law fi rm

Freshfi elds Bruckhaus Deringer from 2000.

In 2004 she joined the law department at the Federation of German Industries (BDI) and in 2015 became head oft he BDI department Digitalization and Industrial Value Chains. Since 2016 she has been head of the BDI department Digitalization, Innovation and Healthcare.

Since April 2017 Iris Plöger has been a member of the BDI Executive Board. She is responsible for digitalization, health industry, R & D, law, competition and consumer policy.

Birgit Fischer Managing Director, German Association of Research-Based Pharmaceutical Companies (vfa)

Ms Fischer is the Managing Director of the German Association of Research-Based Pharmaceutical Companies (vfa).

She joined the SPD in 1981 and has held leadership positions in the party until 2007. In 1990 Ms Fischer became a member of the state

parliament of the German federal state North Rhine-Westphalia. During her time as a politician in North Rhine-Westphalia, she acted as deputy managing director of the SPD and as Minister of Health, Social Affairs, Women and Family Affairs. In 2007, Birgit Fischer switched from her mandates as member of the SPD state parliament in North Rhine-Westphalia to Barmer Ersatzkasse, where she became Deputy Chairman of the Executive Board.

Since May 2011, Birgit Fischer is Managing Director of the Association of Research-Based Pharmaceutical Companies (vfa).

James Kugler earned a degree in Biomedical Engineering from Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri, USA and has research experience at Harvard Medical School & MIT in Bioinformatics, Computational Biophysics, and Genome Sequencing. James started his career at Sigma-Aldrich in 2008 in Corporate Strategy & Plan-ning, before moving to eBusiness, Global New Product Introduction,

Biology Product Management, and back to eBusiness, where he was in charge of SigmaAldrich.com, the leading ecommerce site in the life sciences. Following the acquisition of Sigma-Aldrich by Merck Group, James became Chief Digital Offi cer of Merck Group in January 2016, where he is currently responsible for the digital transformation of the group globally.

Dr Tim Züwerink, CEO, Gotthardt Healthgroup AG

After obtaining his a Ph.D. in Slavic Studies from the University of Bonn, Dr Tim Züwerink joined McKinsey & Company, Inc., to serve as a project manager for Pharmaceutical clients. Today, Dr Tim Züwe-rink is CEO of Gotthardt Healthgroup AG, focusing e.g. on services for clinical trials, i.e. on helping to optimise the recruitment of trial candidates in primary care, through automated pre-screening at the

Point of Care. Gotthardt Healthgroup also applies data mining methods and machine learning to identify complex multi-dimensional medical data which is used to prevent and predict diseases.

Dr Züwerink previously served as Senior Vice President of CompuGroup Medical AG, leading their Health Connectivity Services business globally.

Sebastian C. Semler, Executive Director, Technology, Methods, and Infrastructure for Networked Medical Research (TMF)

Sebastian Claudius Semler is the Executive Director of TMF – Technology, Methods, and Infrastructure for Networked Medical Research (TMF). TMF is the umbrella organization for networked medical research in Germany. It is the platform both for interdisci-plinary exchange and for cross-project and cross-location cooperation

that aims to identify and solve the organisational, legal/ethical and technological pro-blems of modern medical research. Solutions range from expert opinions, generic con-cepts, and IT applications to checklists, practical guides, training, and consultation services. TMF makes these solutions available to the public free of charge. TMF is also involved in a range of national and European research infrastructures and projects, name-ly in the Mecial Informatics Initiative Germany, launched by the German Federal Ministry for Education and Research (BMBF) in 2015 to establish and link data integration centres at university hospitals throughout Germany and to close the gap between research and healthcare.

Mr Semler previously served as an associate lecturer at the Free University of Berlin and as Head of Product Management, Healthcare, at OPTIMAL SYSTEMS GmbH. Since 2004, he has been a member of the management committee of TELEMED, and in 2006 he became Deputy Head of the Terminologies technical committee of HL7 (Health Level 7) Germany. Mr Semler currently serves on the advisory board of Gematik GmbH, with responsibility for overseeing the introduction of the electronic health card, and he is actively involved in the Clinical Data Interchange Standards Consortium (CDISC) and the HealthGrid Association (EU).

Magda Chlebus, Executive Director, Science Policy and Regulatory Affairs, European Federation of Pharmaceutical Industries and Associations

Magda Chlebus is Executive Director Scientific & Regulatory Affairs at the European Federation of Pharmaceutical Industries and Associa-tions (EFPIA), representing the R&D-based pharmaceutical industry in Europe. Ms Chlebus and her team are in charge of following policy

and legislative developments that influence the research and regulatory environments for the healthcare industry in Europe. This includes public private collaborations (inter alia the Innovative Medicines Initiative), enabling and sensitive technologies and the in-terface between new science and technology and regulation. She joined EFPIA in 1995. Her experience covers public and government affairs mainly at EU level, on a range of legislative and non-legislative files in the area of research, development and access to medicines and enabling technologies.

Dr Roman Rittweger, CEO Ottonova, Digital Health Insurance

Dr Roman Rittweger holds a medical degree from Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich (LMU) and received an MBA from INSEAD in Fontainebleau.

For several years he gained consulting experience at A.T. Kearney, BBDO Consulting and McKinsey. In 1998, he started a company (now

almeda.de) that offered demand and disease management services to payers. In 2006, Dr Roman Rittweger founded the expert advisory network „Roman Rittweger Advisors in Healthcare“. In December 2015 he started the Digital Health Insurance Ottonova.

Camille Bullot, Director of Operations & Engagement, European Patients Forum (EPF)

Camille Bullot joined EPF in November 2013. As EPF Director of Ope-rations & Engagement, her role is to oversee the efficient and effective day-to-day operations of the organisation, ensuring the smooth delive-ry of EPF’s work plan. She also coordinates stakeholders’ engagement with the goal to enhance the organisation‘s visibility and profile.

Camille Bullot holds a Master degree in European Affairs from the Institute of Political Studies in Paris. Before joining EPF, Camille worked as a Policy Coordinator at the As-sembly of European Regions (AER) where she was managing the Social Policy and Pub-lic Health Committee.
