Christmas Message 2020
“A Ray Of Hope, But Still a Hard Reality.”
This was a recent headline of the Boston Globe describing the
delivery of the first Pfizer coronavirus vaccines in the State of
Massachusetts. Without a doubt, this vaccine produced at a record
pace is a concrete light shining in the darkness of this global
pandemic. Whether this is a definitive “light at the end of the
tunnel” remains to be seen, but it certainly is a ray of hope. When
I was reading this story, the terrible reality struck my mind like
a bolt of lightning: “For so many people who do not know the Lord,
this vaccine really does mean everything in the world to them. If
this world is all that there is to live for, then hope of a Covid
vaccine is their only real salvation, how scary is that?!” As the
thought struck me, the depths of the poverty, the depths of the
meaninglessness, and the depths of the hopelessness of a life
without Christ (or apart from Christ) literally caused me to drop
my spoon in the middle of eating my soup.
For all of us, 2020 has been a “whole new way of living.” Over
the past year, we have personally and communally experienced so
many new forms of loss and suffering, including but not limited to:
Financial hardship and loss of jobs and industries for so many;
racial unrest; a tense political climate which has divided families
and ended friendships; a bevy of natural disasters, including a
record breaking season for both wildfires and hurricanes in our own
country; Unsettled home and employment circumstances, which make
life difficult for children, parents, and grandparents. Moreover,
all of these above difficulties have “piled on” the everyday losses
people must face in life, such as accidents, non-Covid injuries and
illnesses, and funerals. With all this being said, it may be hard
to some to celebrate with tidings of comfort and joy. But truly we
must celebrate because there is an unfading glow of light, comfort,
and warmth which beams out from the manger. Christmas is now- and
always will be- a time of Joy and Hope, Peace and Love, because of
the TRUTH of how Jesus changes our lives. Our God-made-flesh smiles
at you and I and says “I love you… come close up and see!” Jesus
DID come to comfort his people. True mercy, true peace, and true
love are found
e
in Him alone. Jesus DID NOT come to eliminate the Cross. He came
to die on the Cross, and so transform it into the means of our
salvation. Jesus DOES want to be our EVERYTHING, because He is our
God who made us for Himself. Jesus DOES NOT want us to keep him on
the sidelines of our life; an inconvenient truth is that many of
the baptized appear to have done so by long before the pandemic
began. Jesus DID come to rescue us from Satan’s tyranny. JESUS DID
NOT leave us powerless against evil. The lies which tell us that
Hell is not real, that it’s OK to harbor grudges against your
enemies, that it’s impossible to pray, that “if it feels good, do
it” etc. etc.- All this Christ comes to deliver us from and give us
new and everlasting life. JOY comes to the World by RECEIVING
Christ as king, not REJECTING him. So as we gather in prayer this
Christmas, either at our Church, or in our own family homes, let us
celebrate the Savior’s birth, and be renewed in our baptismal
commitment to follow him, and proclaim His Good News! “The King of
kings salvation brings. Let loving heart enthrone Him.” Merry
Christmas! Fr. Chris

ALL SAINTS PARISH 3 DECEMBER 27, 2020
pasado, hemos experimentado personalmente y comunitariamente tantas
incendios forestales como para huracanes en nuestro propio país;
Jesús vino a
Jesús vino a
rescatarnos de la tiranía de Satanás. JESUS NO NOS dejó impotentes
Padre Chris

New “Men of Saint Joseph” Group Forming at All Saints Parish
Deacon Peter Richardson is forming a new men’s group at All
Saints Parish (the Men of Saint Joseph at All Saints Parish), with
programs beginning in January. Because of the pandemic, some
programs will be held virtually in the early part of 2021, but the
goal will be to meet in person as soon as it is safe and reasonable
to do so. The main purpose of this group will be to help men in the
parish be the best spiritual leaders and protectors of their
families that they can be. If you are interested in joining this
group, please send an email to Deacon Peter Richardson at
