Pastor’s Chronicle In the brief prayer concluding the Our Father dur-ing Mass the priest prays: “…by the help of your mercy, we may be always free from sin and safe from all distress, as we await the blessed hope and the coming of our Sav-ior, Jesus Christ.” This is a perfect prayer for the Season of Advent we begin today. Advent has a twofold purpose 1) it reminds us of the Second Coming of Christ at the end of time, 2) it is a time of preparation for the feast of the Incarnation (Christmas) when Jesus’ first coming is re-membered. The season is not penitential like Lent but ra-ther marked by a joyful and spiritual expectation as the fullness of the light of Christ (depicted by the four candles on the Advent wreath) comes closer and grows brighter into our lives. Keeping Advent requires that we maintain a certain distance from the rampant commercialism (the creed of greed) promoted by our society. Pope Francis has remarked that we should avoid blind submission to pure consumerism that leads us down a path where the more one possesses the more one wants. One of the greatest in-justices in the modern world consists in this the ones who possess much are relatively few and those who possess almost nothing are many. It is the injustice of the poor dis-tribution of the goods and services originally intended for all. The spirituality of Advent is rooted in the hope of the transformation of our society and our world will take place through our acknowledgement that God is not far off, but already in our midst saving us. The two major fig-ures of this season are John the Baptist and the Blessed Virgin Mary: both recognize the intimacy of God with the world, and they serve as models for us today in discerning the presence of our Savior in the world. So we need to “hold back” be patient and not “jump the gun” in order to expel the demon of materialism which has overtaken this holy joyful season. We Catholics need to sharpen our Christian hope and shape our affections so as to be formed as a people who find light and grace in the Lord Jesus Christ.

Rosary for our Lady of Guadalupe

Each December before the feast of Our Lady of Gua-dalupe, we pray the rosary in the parish hall at 7 p.m.

starting on December 4th. (If the parish hall is al-ready committed, we usually go to a room in TALC

building). So we invite each and every one to join us in praying what we call a novena (nine days) of rosar-ies before the image of Our Lady of Guadalupe in the

hall.

Movie Night at All Saints! The December 5 movie will show: “Joseph of Nazareth:

The story of the Man closest to Christ”. We focus much on Mary, Jesus’s mother. Joseph is the forgotten one who is very important in the life of Jesus. Join us to learn more

about him through this enjoyable and interesting dramatic presentation. We will gather in the Foyer of TALC after

mass on Saturday at about 6:45 PM for some refreshments and snacks. Liz will have some hot dogs for us and you are

encouraged to bring something to share. After our short warm up, the movie will start by 7:15 PM in TALC 5. We

will finish by 9 PM. Adults and children are wel-come. Come to enjoy an interesting preparation for Christ-mas that avoids shopping and money but is very rewarding.

Christmas is coming! Hello, dear Parish Family, Christmas will be here before we know it! Rehearsals for this choir will be after 10:30 mass in the church at the altar for about 30 minutes on 12/6. 12/13/ and 12/20. There will be a sign-up sheet on the first Sunday of rehearsal, 12/6 after 10:30 mass. . It is alwayswonderful to hear beautiful children’s voices singing at Christmas.
