What is TechPrep

Began in the early 1980’s as an option (opportunity) for HS students Locally driven; career oriented

Today - major national strategy for improving students' academic knowledge and technical skills Still locally driven but funded through Perkins Vocational

and Technical Education Act; still career oriented though careers today are healthcare, biotech etc

47% of nation's HS offer at least one TechPrep program; nearly every community and technical college is involved

However, the real evaluation is pass rates on Credit by Exam Tests

Three years ago, no HS student took the A&P or CHM tests; very few of them passed the Med Term and Intro to Healthcare Tests. NOW
