am pleased to write a few words of appreciation

to the Alfaisal University community, HRH Prince

Khalid Al Faisal, the esteemed members of the

Board of Trustees and colleagues, faculty members,

the administrators and, of course, our hard working students.

This is the Vol. 2 issue of the Al Faisal University Magazine, and

I am happy to report that the University has made great strides

in its relatively short history and is ready to face the challenges

of the future.

The Board of Trustees (BOT) has recently met and the overall

impression of all its members was extremely positive and

encouraging. The approval of the minutes of the 8th BOT

meeting and its response to the most recent meeting agenda

was overwhelmingly supportive of the new organization

chart, including the new leadership, and the overall future

direction of Alfaisal University. The Board of Trustees listened

with keen interest to the achievements of Alfaisal University’s

faculty and students and showed enthusiasm and continued

commitment to Alfaisal University, namely to underwrite its

mission and achieve its vision. The generous commitment

exhibited by the Board members, is closely in accord with the

ambitious aspirations of Alfaisal’s leadership, the faculty and

administrators, and our highly capable students. Furthermore,

generous support by the Board of Trustees members was

extended to the completion of campus buildings, funding

start-up research, and operational expenditures.

Al Faisal is an aspiring, non-profit, higher education institution.

It prides itself on the progressive ideals of its founders, quality

teaching and patent-winning research. In merely two years,

Al Faisal has attracted international students who now account

for 55% of its student body. Registered students are highly

capable with a mean TOEFL score of 543, and mean Qudrat

score in the top 5 percentile. Despite its’ small student body, a

number of Al Faisal students have managed to win international

recognition in research, and have proven themselves in

international workshops, seminars and student competitions.

Our fledgling national and international signature cooperative

education program places our students in leading businesses

in the Kingdom and in companies around the world. It was

ranked at number one by King Abdul Aziz City for Science and

Technology as the top national higher education institution

with regards to the number of approved research grants. We

have the best faculty member to student ratio in the Kingdom,

and we have a large pool of top research faculty, with published

research in leading international periodicals. In short, Alfaisal

has all the ingredients to prosper, with Allah’s Blessings, as

we work together as one community, in our progressive

scientific endeavors, while collaborating and understanding

our responsibilities as we face the challenges ahead of us.

Alfaisal MBA student Firaz Al-Sugair, presented his research article at the EDUELARN 12 conference in Barcelona, Spain, in July 2012. The paper titled, ”Using simulation software in the classroom for the implementation of lean principles in a waterproof manufacturing company”, was coauthored by Mohammed Al-Suwailem, Waleed AlShedukhi and Abdulaziz BinSulaiman.

Two other articles from the MBA class were also presented by Dr. Ricardo Santa on behalf of the students. The articles are: Innovation in the production of dates: A classroom Experiential Learning project prepared by Alanoud Al-Kahtani, Halah Al-Shathry, Dalal Al-Abdulwahed and Nouf Al-Towairgi; Classroom action learning project for the design and simulation of the Saudi Football e-commerce Website, Prepared by Sara AlRabiah, Munirah AlHazani, AlAnoud AlAbdulrhman and Areej AlMehrash

Visiting Medical students fom Alfaisal received hands on training from experts on using the da vinci robotic surgery system as part of thier summer training program at Scott & White this summer. The trip has helped broaden interests for foriegn medical students reported the Temple Daily Telegraph, as they get exposure to research labs like those of Dr. Alexander Asea’s. Alfaisal University would like to thank the team at Scott & White for making the students summer training a success!

One important aspect of the Alfaisal””s MBA program is to enhance students global experience and exposure. For this, seventeen Alfaisal’s MBA cohort-one graduates enrolled in two intensive short programs. The two courses were designed to complement each other; at Babson students learnt how to become entrepreneurs and at Boeing how to apply leadership skills to convert simple ideas into productive businesses. During this experience, Alfaisal students demostrated quality, maturity, and high discipline shown during their interaction with world entrepreneurs and leaders. This was explicitly stated by many executives at Babson and Boeing. Dr. Khafaji stated, this cohort paved the pathway for more Saudi students to join these programs in the future – well done to all”!!

The International Journal of Surgery awards the prestigious annual Harold Ellis Prize in Surgery (Est. 2003) in recognition of scientific papers judged to be outstanding. Dr Ahmed Yaqinuddin, Assistant Professor of Anatomy at Alfaisal co-authored a review article entitled “Utility of DNA methylation markers for diagnosing cancer”. This article has been chosen for Harold Ellis Prize in Surgery, 2011 (Runner-up).

Professor A. A. Mohamad, former Dean of the Alfaisal College of Engineering, and Dr. H. Z. Hassan, who will be joining the Alfaisal Engineering faculty in September, has published an article entitle ‘A review of solar cold production through absorption technology’ in the Renewal and Sustainable Energy Reviews. This is a high impact journal with a rating of 6.018.

The paper contains a comprehensive literature review on absorptive based refrigeration and air conditioning systems that are powered by solar energy. The paper discusses previous experimental and simulation studies for various systems.

Following the success of Riyadh-based Pakistani artist Asma Tariq’s grand two day solo exhibition “ Variations of Islamic Art” (VIA) on April 16-17 at the College of Science, the artist re visited the University on Saturday 19th May 2012, where she presented Provost Dr. Faisal Al Mubarak a King Faisal portrait.

The painting was started as a demonstration activity in one of the CoSGS Lecture Series presentations, where the artist used it before a live audience to demonstrate her techniques, and was completed per advice from HH Prince Bandar AlSaud, the chair of the executive committee of the Board of Trustees.

Mechanical Engineers design and develop everything you think of as a machine—from supersonic fighter jets to bicycles to toasters. And they influence the design of other products as well—shoes, light bulbs and even doors. Many mechanical engineers specialize in areas such as manufacturing, robotics, automotive and air conditioning. Others cross over into other disciplines, working on everything from artificial organs to the expanding field of nanotechnology.Mechanical Engineering

Electrical EngineeringIf you can switch it on, chances are that an electrical engineer was involved. Electrical engineers devise ways to take energy from turbines, fuel cells, hydroelectric plants and solar panels and transfer it to homes, factoriesand businesses. They also design components that move digital information from place to place, meaning that they’re behind much of the technology in computers, cell phones, satellites and televisions.

Industrial EngineeringIndustrial engineers are smooth operators. They organize materials, machines, information and people to ensure that an industrial production process functions smoothly. Often found in manufacturing, industrial engineers work with design, quality control and the human factors of engineering. Their training in technical problem-solving makes them ideal for managing projects.

Software EngineeringSoftware engineers develop complex computer programs that are used in almost every part of the human endeavor. They often work in teams to analyze, design, construct and test these programs, which are vital for harnessing the power of modern computers. They use special models, methods and tools to ensure that software is of high quality and produced in a cost-effective and timely manner.

Architectural EngineeringArchitectural engineers apply engineering principles to the construction, planning, and design of buildings and other structures. They often work with other engineers and with architects, who focus on function layout or aesthetics of building projects. Architectural Engineering often encompasses elements of other engineering disciplines, including mechanical, electrical, fire protection, and others.

ne of NASA's most fascinating pictures is NASA's Earth at Night, which is a composite of hundreds of photos taken by weather monitoring satellites. The picture is so powerfully telling of many aspects – population density, economic activity, and political power. Most notably,

however, it shows how electricity makes cities alive at night, making it possible for people to do more than they would otherwise been able to.But electricity does more than lighting the world up at night. If you look around you, night or day, you will find little that functions without electricity. Just imagine what life would be without it! Electricity is, therefore, a very serious business that a lot of people depend on in their livelihood.

Because of this importance, it requires care and dedication in producing it, distributing it and using it in the many devices and machines that surround this. This care and dedication is what Electrical Engineering (EE) is all about As an Electrical Engineer, there are many things that you can get involved in. For example, if you are interested in learning about how electricity is generated and distributed, you would special in a branch of EE called Power. In the Kingdom, much of the electricity is produced using oil. Because of oil’s scarcity, engineers are always trying to find better ways to utilize it, in addition to power generation that do not involve oil such as solar, wind or hydropower. Once electricity arrives at our homes and offices, there are many ways it can be used. Appliances at home, for example, such as the TV, the DVD, the gaming console, the PC, the washing machine, the fridge and many others all depend on electricity. But how do they actually work? Very often, these appliances depend on very small components called chips that take care of their operation. Studying

how these chips, which can hold more than 2.6 billion components, are designed and manufactured can found in the Electronics branch. But electronics is about more than chips. The screenon the LED TV or the eye that captures images in your camera – this is all electronics. There are two other branches in EE: Communications and Control. More than any time before, communications is playing a great role in our live, starting from enabling you to make simple voice and video calls with anybody in this world, to making it possible to deliver news and to trade across very long distances. It is in communications that you learn about how the Internet works, how your cellphone connects, and how your radio and TV receive their information. As for Controlbranch, this is where you get to know how many things such as robots and smart buildings and cars keep working efficiently. Robots around the world are involved in many aspects from building cars and operating storage warehouses, to helping out in difficult medical surgeries. Robots have also travelled very far (all the way to Mars), going where it can be difficult or dangerous for humans to go. Smart buildings use control, too. Using sensors, a building can automatically adjust room temperatures, monitor water and electricity usage, and warn in case of fire or smoke. Cars, too, have now more intelligence than ever, with some cars having almost 300 sensors, all being used to give you a safer and more pleasurable driving experience. Today, in Saudi Arabia and the world, there is a great demand for electrical engineers. Local companies like Aramco, SCECO, SABIC, Inara and STC, in addition to multinationals such as BAE, Boeing, Schneider, Schlumberger, Siemens and Telus – all have constant interest in electrical engineers across all branches. Here, at Alfaisal University, we have a world-class EE program that helps prepare you for the international job market, and that makes you able to take part in powering up the world.

COLLEGE OF BUSINESSresults show an increasing number of sectors becoming undervalued suggesting investment opportunities are re-emerging in the TASI. This a very different story to the one told by a traditional static beta value analysis.

Business Student Association

The goal of the Business Student Association (BSA) is to provide students with the opportunity to gain a broader insight into the business profession by sponsoring meetings which will bring practicing businesses to campus, arranging field trips to research and business establishments, sponsoring student projects of business interest, and participating in local activities.We also aim to encourage good fellowship among business students, strengthening the ties and bonds between the students, the staff, the faculty, and the entire community. Ms. Halah Omar Al- Shathry is MBA student at the College of Business. She works in AlInma Bank as a branch manager of Takhasusi Ladies Branch. She has obtained several certificates, e.g. Basic Client Management & Relationship Selling by MPACT W.L.L., and two SAMA licenses of Basic Investment and Tadawul Certification.

Q. Basically, what is you academic background? A. I’ve graduated high school from Riyadh Schools, Riyadh. Later I graduated from University of New Haven, Connecticut, USA, where I had my undergraduate degree in Business Administration- cum laude, and with three minors in marketing, management, and international business.

Q.Why did you choose Alfaisal University MBA program?

After researching on MBA programs in Riyadh, I chose AU first for its highly qualified teaching faculty. Second, for the selective quality of education that emphasizes on analytical thinking, problem solving, and academic research. Third, is that the flexible hours schedule provides students with the opportunity to acquire graduate studies without interfering with their careers.

Q. How would Alfaisal MBA further your career in your present occupation?

AU provides a variety of courses that are relevant to my present career, such as, Project Management, Managing Human Behavior in multi Cultural Environments and Quality Assurance, etc. The program exposes me to the most recent knowledge of business management to further develop my management style and performance.

Q. What do you enjoy most about AlFaisal MBA program?

I enjoy the research base and case method approaches that all courses require to develop new skills that are useful for my business and personal life. I appreciate the University’s culture, where a mixture of international professors creates a vigorous intercultural environment and the administrative faculty’s support to graduate students.

The College of Business Advisory BoardThe College of Business Advisory Council (COBAC) is comprised of business leaders knowledgeable about the needs of the region as well as the needs of commerce. COBAC is a vital link between the business community and the College, helping the College to serve the region by keeping the dean informed, and reviewing and evaluating the College’s mission, objectives and programs. The Council also assists in identifying ways in which the business community can support the College of Business.

Specific Purposes:To be an advocate for the Alfaisal University’s College of Business whenever and wherever possible.

• To participate with and provide counsel to the College of Business

regarding objectives, strategies, goals, problems, and opportunities.

fundamental question in finance is how the risk of an investment should affect its expected return. Utilizing average rolling beta values and daily alphas across each of the four macroeconomic cycles, expected returns for 15 sector indices in the TASI from early 2007 to late 2011 are

calculated. An interesting story emerges. A positive alpha indicates a sector that has outperformed (a sector that is undervalued by the market) according to the CAPM. This in turn signals an opportunity for investors to buy (vice versa).

Prior to the global financial crisis, five of the fifteen sectors in the TASI were undervalued in a period of soaring oil prices. These sectors generated returns that exceeded the required returns. With the onset of the global financial crisis, all sectors in the TASI returned negative alphas implying the market has incorrectly overvalued these sectors. As the global economy recovered, the Petroleum and the Industrial sectors generated positive alpha values. Despite global uncertainty in 2011,

ecently Dr. Ganguly was invited to attend an International Heart Conference

in Winnipeg (October 13-17, 2011). The conference was well attended by

high profile clinicians and basic scientists and by the most innovative minds on

the planet dealing with the causes and treatment of heart diseases.

Short BiodataDr. Ganguly joined an internationally well recognized cardiovascular group in Winnipeg, Canada in 1982 as a

postdoctoral fellow of Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada after receiving his medical degrees in India. Dr.

Ganguly was one of the promising faculty members of University of Manitoba who showed an exceptional dedication

to research, teaching and service to cardiovascular community from the very beginning. His work on atrial natriuretic

factor in diabetes (G- protein interaction in kidney basolateral membrane), catecholamine research in diabetes and

brain changes in stroke (homocysteine and excitatory amino acids) received immediate recognition from both Canada

as well in United States. He received the most prestigious awards from Rh Institute, University of Manitoba; Merit award

from University of Manitoba; Scholarship from Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada; Young Investigator Award from

Canadian Cardiovascular Society and American College of Angiology; as well Gold Medal from International Society

for Heart Research for his scholarly work in cardiovascular sciences. He was invited to spend some time in Harvard

Medical School as a visiting Professor to work on chronically instrumented techniques in the Department of Internal

Medicine. Till today Dr. Ganguly published 125 peer reviewed publications; mostly in reputed journals having high

impact factor and a book (Catecholamines and Heart Disease). He was also invited speakers world-wide in various

symposia, meetings and conferences related to Cardiovascular Sciences. Dr. Ganguly had joint appointment as a

Faculty member in the Department of Anatomy, University of Manitoba. His interest in medical Education allowed him

to visit McMaster University in the year 2000 and later to Arabian Gulf University, Bahrain where he spent 6 years as a

Abstract Science through heart in education

As the breadth and complexity of research in cardiovascular sciences grows, so does the

need for expanded, up-to-the-minute educational opportunities for cardiovascular scientists,

physicians, nurses, and technologists. Although these health professionals have responded by

developing a range of educational initiatives that meet those needs, there is a real lack of a

concerted effort that addresses science through cardiovascular education.

The time has come when the general public and global medical communities are eager to know the benefit

from a holistic approach of science that cuts across bench research. Thus, worldwide reputation for excellence

in training basic and clinical scientists in advanced techniques and innovations needs new resources of

cardiovascular education.

It is proposed that twenty first century cardiovascular science can be focussed in a more effective and

comprehensive manner if health professionals can work together to achieve a common goal, the Heart of

Education. Such an effort should be directed to: 1) developing a better curriculum at the medical school

2) producing more clinician scientists 3) useful communication and interaction within scientists, physicians,

nurses and technologists translational research 4) public awareness and 5) participating in governmental health

policies. The success to this endeavour lies in introducing a program of Cardiovascular Education in Institutes

actively engaged in basic and clinical research.

On pressing him for more details, Dr. Alsgaih said with genuine modest demeanor: ''With God's grace, I obtained, by far, the highest number of votes despite the fact I was not present at the meeting, and that one of my colleagues had nominated without informing me.''”

As for his reasons for leaving the judicial system, Dr. Alsgaih said: ''I resigned from the official judicial system to focus on activities I felt I had the greatest passion for, and to focus on where I could serve our society better such as teaching, and social work.''”

In addition to teaching at Alfaisal, Dr. Alsgaih is intensely active in the social domain. His name has lately appeared as one of the pioneering legal defenders of women's financial and general rights. His activities in this domain include appearing in the media including well-known newspapers and TV. He also has a weekly TV program specializing in giving legal economic advice (Your Legal Consultant) and he directs a program called. Fadaiat” which is broadcasted weekly with participants from the Saudi Legal Scientific Committee.

With regards to his unique way of teaching Islamic Studies at Alfais-al, Dr. Alsgaih explained:''The availability of the Internet with its vari-ous open information domains is forcing educators to change their teaching methods and the ways they communicate with the students. The availability of information and easy-to-use search engines at the disposal of the younger generation has invalidated memorization and canned” opinions, which, by the way, is also contrary to the nature of young inquisitive minds. Because of this, it is important for religious scholars -if they want to protect our young- to be proficient in new information technologies and the diverse ideas prevailing in the world, whether they are general, or whether they are about Islam. Once mas-tered, these technologies, and the information they provide, can easily be employed to attract students to Islam without compromising any of our basic beliefs.”''

''In addition, my participation in conferences and visits to more than thirty countries, which included official training in the courts of foreign legal systems taught me firsthand about different cultures and opened my eyes to the importance of dialogue in education, and the accep-tance of others.”''

After insisting on explaining to me how he finally solved a problem that arose with regards to one of Alfaisal’s non-Muslim students (I knew about the case when I translated for him a recorded message), Dr. Alsgaih said: ''I simply called the father of the student and suggested that his son should conduct a comparative study between his religion and Islam. The father was very happy with this suggestion. At the end of the course, I was also happy with the results because the student taught me, through the research papers he submitted, greatly about that religion.''

About his continuous efforts to advance his knowledge, Dr. Alsgaih said that his goal at this stage in his career is to learn English because he has a strong desire to learn firsthand Orientlists literature about Islam. To this end, he intends to travel to the United States and spend most of the next summer vacation with an American family in order to learn English “as fast as possible.”

A modern university without a full complement of young female stu-dents cannot hope to achieve its potential. Female students con-tribute at least half of all the activities of any redoubtable institution of higher learning, and Alfaisal has succeeded in bringing this vital element to complete the diversity of its student body.

Young women have finally arrived at Alfaisal in the Spring Semester of 2011; their presence has been long anticipated and worked for; and although, as dictated by the law of Saudi Arabia, they study and work secluded in the second and third floors of the University, their laughter, calls, and chatter, are felt all over Alfaisal’s open great halls. Their contributions in academics and other student activities have already made the University a tremendously better place. Their great energy, high intelligence, and commitment to intellectual ex-cellence have infused the University with purpose and determination to succeed. The CoSGS faculty and staff are happy that a total of 12 young female students have joined its Life Sciences Program. Many more are either in the process of joining us, or are anticipated to join. The faculty’s message to these young women is that your pres-ence in the hallways and lecture halls has filled us with hope about the bright future of our institution.

The students who joined our Life Sciences Program will be prepared upon graduation to compete in the emerging high tech Saudi market in biology and medicine. Their training will also emphasize preparing them at a high standard of achievement to allow them to complete their graduate degrees in the most competitive institutions of world. The program provides instructions in all aspects of molecular biol-ogy, including the structure and function of genes (DNA), transmis-sion of genetic information from the gene to the function of RNA and protein molecules, human and population genetics and evolution,

Dr. Ahmed AlSgaih Joins Alfaisal Facultyhe College of Science and General Studies (CoSGS) is very proud of its newest faculty addition: Assistant Professor Ahmed Abdu-laziz Alsgaih. The college is unanimous in consider-

ing its success in recruiting Dr. Als-gaih as an example of its dedication to providing its students with the best professors. This article reviews Dr. Alsgaih’s background and education.

Fortunately for Alfaisal, the customary initial period of students measuring up” their new professor passed success-fully for both, students and the pro-

fessor, as Dr. Alsgaih became immensely popular with his students. All students I interviewed expressed their admiration for their new teacher. They all spoke warmly about his boundless tolerance in accepting all of their questions about Islam. In their view, Dr. Alsgaih represents the shining face of a tolerant, peace-loving Islam which is suitable for all time and all places.”

Junior student Obada Awad said: ''He is the best teacher to teach Is-lamic studies at Alfaisal. I have already taken two courses in this subject from two different teachers. Dr. Alsgaih differs from them in the vari-ety of topics he allowed us to discuss. Instead of taking the easy path by teaching a traditionally structured course, he took the hard path by opening discussions on any topic we could think of. He did not forbid any questions about Islam whether it was about jurisprudence, Hadith, or even doctrine. In my view, this is the correct way to represent Islam - a way which is not solely focused on defining red lines that must not be crossed; but a way which uses logic instead of forcing facts into the mind.''

Senior Abdulaziz AlDaoud voiced a similar opinion: ''Dr. Alsgaih is one of the best professors who has ever taught me. He replaced an inflexible curriculum with a vibrant teaching method based on open discussion groups whereby students discuss suggested issues amongst them-selves and also with their teacher, without any restraints. His method allowed us to explore deep seated ideas, Ideas which we were afraid to bring out into the open lest we violate imaginary taboos instilled in us by custom. Add to this the delightful personality of Dr. Alsgaih and his em-pathy with the issues we face as students, and you get the best learning atmosphere imaginable. I am confident that Dr. Alsgaih will leave a last-ing impression in the minds of many of his students.''

I asked Dr. Alsgaih about the path that led him to Alfaisal. He elabo-rated as follows: ''I studied in my formative years at the feet of famous religious leaders like Sheikh Abdulaziz Ibn Baz and Muhammad Ibn Othaymeen. I then completed my high school education at the Imam's Scientific Institute of Islam where I followed the very rigorous curriculum administered by the Islamic University of Imam Muhammad Ibn Saud. After graduating from high school in 1414 H, I joined the Sharia College of Riyadh and graduated from it in the year 1418 H. I then obtained an-other degree in Law and its Sharia Protocols from the same institution.''

''After graduation, I worked as a judge in the Eastern Province. This position made me eligible for a government scholarship to continue my higher education at the doctoral level. I jumped at the opportunity and obtained my PhD in 1428H. My thesis was entitled: Investment of Is-lamic Endowments (Waqf): A Practical Study. Later, the Islamic Affairs and Endowment Ministry published it as a book with the same title.''

''After moving to Riyadh to work for the Department of Complaints, (Di-wan AlMathalim) as a commercial judge, I was assigned the position of official spokesperson of this Saudi branch of law. From this position, I became involved in several Islamic religious committees, within my job and outside it. My last position was as General Manager of Strategic Planning in the Diwan.''

To obtain their first impressions about Alfaisal, I interviewed two students about the university. Freshman Walaa Kattan answered my questions as follows:

Q. Why did you choose College of Science of Alfaisal University?

I’ve always wanted to study genetics and go into cancer research. Once I found out that the College of Science in Alfaisal University was offering ge-netics as a Bachelor’s, it was a no-brainer not to register.

Q. What do you think about the level of education here?

Definitely higher than other educational institutes here. Personally, it defi-nitely challenged me to do things I never thought I could do.

Q. How about the facilities of Alfaisal?

I just want a better cafeteria and a nice quiet library filled with books. Hope-fully, that will be seen in the future since we’re still the first batch of female students.

Q. Do you think the separation between the sexes is in compliance with the traditions accepted in the country?

It is in compliance with the country’s traditions although it is disadvanta-geous for the females in some aspects. However I’m glad that males and females are finally equal in academics.

Q. What would you like to see improved, changed?

regular course activities of a Biomedical Ethics course taught at

Alfaisal by Professor Norman Swazo. Swazo judged that the two

papers were of very high quality, and encouraged the two students

Most of the events that take place are centered on the College of Medi-cine which is understandable since they’re the college with the most number of students. However, as a student of the College of Science, I would appreciate it if Science were involved as well.

Q. Does Alfaisal meet your overall expectations of the University you dreamed of joining?

It definitely met my expectations for working harder than I ever have in my life alright.

Q. How do you see our future?

I genuinely think that the future of the university is bright; it has already achieved so much and it’s still in its first years.

Freshman Eman Al-Yemni answered the same questions as follows:

Q. Why did you choose College of Science of Alfaisal University?

A. I’ve always found environmental science interesting, and when I saw that it was possibly going to be a major here, I made my decision. Also, I was told I might be able to do a double major, so adding Genetic Engineering would sure make my mum happy, I guess.

Q. What do you think about the level of education here?

A. I think it deserves to be called one of the top schools here. I can’t say I’ve ex-actly had any good experiences at my past university, or school for that matter.

Q. How about the facilities?

A. I don’t think I can judge just yet. I mean, so far, we don’t really have much space to do anything. The halls are somewhat restricting, but I guess that could change in a year or so with the expansion on facilities. For the time be-ing, it’s enough for what we need.

Q. Do you think the separation between the sexes is in compliance with the traditions accepted in the country?

A. I’m not sure I want to answer that lest something mysteriously happens. It is in compliance with our traditions here, I suppose; but that does not mean I have to agree with said traditions. I believe in respect and modesty, but some things are a bit exaggerated. I’m afraid I cannot say for sure, because I was not even exposed to our traditions that much.

Q. What would you like to see improved, changed?

A. I know the saying is, “The way to a man’s heart is through his stomach,” but women need and like food just as much. Now, I’m not necessarily talking about myself here, but I can tell the others are having trouble with that. Nearly every day, I see girls ordering food from some place. The kiosk we have is not exactly inviting, nor is the food that satisfying. And since we spend long hours in the university, this is a problem. So far, that is my only concern.

Q. Does Alfaisal meet your overall expectations of the University you dreamed of joining?

A. I’d have to say yes. In fact, it exceeded my expectations. I expected some extra work and some pressure. I did not think I would have this much to do, however. Haha.

Q. How do you see our future?

A. Bright and wonderful! Sure there are things to be improved, but nothing is perfect and certainly not anything new.

t is a wonderful moment, heavy with the delicious smells and scents of the new harvest, as we celebrate thegathering of the first fruits of this modern young

university.We, the King Faisal Foundation and the Board of Trustees of the Alfaisal University, are delighted to presentto Saudi Arabian society - and to the Arab world - the first elite cohort of young men and women of this university,all of whom have completed their studies in their various scientific pathways and have obtained the degrees whichqualify them to serve their communities in a variety of crucial fields of vital application to our modern society- fields in which they have demonstrated competency in both theory and practice.

The King Faisal Foundation established this University as part of its education mission to realize the vision ofthe martyr king – Allah Bless his soul – of establishing a scientific institution that offers specialized academic programs having the best and most up to date formats and resources, cooperating with the best universities overseas.

offer my sincere congratulations to the graduating

class of 2012, for all your achievements and hard

work. On behalf of all the faculty, staff and Board of Trustees, I

would like you to know how truly proud we are of you, the first

graduating class of this highly esteemed institution. We believe

that we have provided you with a first-class education that has

prepared you to help meet the challenges of our generation and

of the generations to come.

There are few noble causes that match the opportunity to help

build a new learning institution from the ground up, and that is

why I have found working as your Provost to be a particularly

satisfying endeavor. Asstated in its unique mission, Alfaisal is

a non-profit, private research, student-centered university that

modelsits academic programs and programs to meet student

needs on the examples set by world-class universities.

That is why we insist on admitting the best possible students and

you, the class of 2012, should be proud of your achievements.

Alfaisal University is privileged in its association with the late

King Faisal, who believed that human progress pivots around

education. His dream materialized through his dedicated and

loving sons and daughters in a myriad different ways. The

establishment of the King Faisal Foundation, with its world class

King Faisal Prize, is but one of King Faisal’s lasting legacies.

Yet, the jewel of his foresight and concern for the future is

Alfaisal University. King Faisal’s vision was that of progressive

knowledge, one that borrows the best from other cultures,

yet is consistent with Islam’s percepts and values. Prophet

Mohammad, peace be upon him, said, “Wisdom should be the

pursuit of the believer; whenever he finds it, he is the most

qualified to seize it.” The Alfaisal mission manifests such wisdom

in the trilogy written into its unique motto – the trilogy of Faith,

Knowledge and Practice.

Translating this noble cause into reality has been a difficult but

exciting task. Our humble efforts are but a continuation of the

implementation of King Faisal’s dream, and has been possible

only thanks to the dedication of our staff and to the generosity of

Al Faisal University’s Board of Trustees, chaired by HRH Prince

Khalid al Faisal, and with the help of a number of world-class

dignitaries including King Faisal’s descendants, as well as

leaders of national and international business establishments

and government sector executives. They provide tremendous

support to Alfaisal leadership to assure that its mission is

COMMENCEMENT COVERAGE HISTORIC YEAR FOR ALFAISAL

This year has been a significant year for Alfaisal since the

conception of the University, where student diversity, student

and faculty achievements were all celebrated through many

exciting and diverse activities which resulted in some remarkable

achievements this academic year. 2011/2012, and here are

some of the reasons why...

At the start of the academic year, we welcomed our first

cohort of female undergraduate students to embark upon

their educational journey at Alfaisal. A truly historic milestone

achievement for Afaisal was celebrated by the appointment

of our first female Convocation Keynote Speaker, Ms. Seema

Khan, in October 2011. We congratulated our first female BSc

Life Sciences students in the CoSGS on having their papers

accepted for presentation at the Western Michigan University's

Undergraduate Biomedical Ethics Symposium. We rejoiced in

our College of Business women students taking 4th place in the

Saudi University Debate Competition.

We also witnessed our students enthusiastically campaigning

on outreach projects this year like Breast Cancer Awareness,

several intra-university sporting tournaments and organized the

Alfaisal Olympics 2012 . Our students hosted one of the most

exciting events in Riyadh attended by many: The Tedx Alfaisal

University event entitled,””''The Power of Inspiration''. Alfaisal

students were also invited to participate in the Gulf Competitive

Forum 2012 where one of our MBA students was awarded first

prize for heading one of the “100 Fastest Growing Companies in

Saudi Arabia”. Our students gave back to a thirsty world though

their support of the BMG Foundation's ””''Our Water Our Life””'' water

conservation initiative that toured 11 universities in the GCC.

Furthermore, our students were revealed to be of the highest

caliber being co-opted into the prestigious Mawhiba Program

under the patronage of King AbdulAziz & His Companions

Foundation for Giftedness & Creativity – indeed, nine Alfaisal

students were selected for this program. A College of Engineering

student was selected as Young Future Energy Leader at the

‘World Future Energy Summit’ in Abu Dhabi. Students from the

College of Medicine have had a research article published in

Volume 5 of the Horizons in Neuroscience Research journal, and

took first prize in the 8th International Scientific Conference for

Medical Students in the GCC Countries. Students from across

the Alfaisal colleges participated in the 3rd Annual Research

Day Student Poster Competition where they showcased their

original research ideas. These are just a few highlights of the

activities of our students this year.

As we approached the year end, we celebrated and congratulated

our inaugural cohort of students for making history. On May

20th 2012, the late King Faisal’s vision became a reality as

100 students from the Colleges of Engineering and Business

graduated in the presence of the Alfaisal University community

of scholars, families, friends, dignitaries, supporting co-

founders, Board of Trustee Members and many distinguished

others. These students have been given the Alfaisal experience,

an experience that has equipped them with the knowledge and

skills to go on to becoming future leaders in their chosen fields.

An Alfaisal Congratulations to all that made history this year

as the first cohort of graduates. Alfaisal wishes you the best in

your chosen careers and want to see you return and share your

experiences and the valuable lessons you learn in your working

lives with future Alfaisal students. Finally, we express our

deepest gratitude to the parents of our students who entrusted

us with educating their sons and daughters.

Pictures of Bionic contact lenses

Bionic contact lenses are being developed to provide a virtual display that could have a variety of uses from assisting the visually impaired to the video game industry. The device will have the form of a conventional contact lens with added bionics technology. The lens will eventually have functional electronic circuits and infrared lights to create a virtual display. A University of Washington assistant professor of electrical engineering is quoted as saying, “Looking through a completed lens, you would see what the display is generating superimposed on the world outside.”

An OLED (organic light-emitting diode) is a light-emitting diode (LED) in which the emissive electroluminescent layer is a film of organic compounds which emit light in response to an electric current. This layer of organic semiconductor material is situated between two electrodes. Generally, at least one of these electrodes is transparent.

There are two main families of OLEDs: those based on small molecules and those employing polymers. Adding mobile ions to an OLED creates a Light-emitting Electrochemical Cell or LEC, which has a slightly different mode of operation. OLED displays can use either passive-matrix (PMOLED) or active-matrix addressing schemes. Active-matrix OLEDs (AMOLED) require a thin-film transistor backplane to switch each individual pixel on or off, but allow for higher resolution and larger display sizes.An OLED display works without a backlight. Thus, it can display deep black levels and can be thinner and lighter than a liquid crystal display (LCD). In low ambient light conditions such as a dark room an OLED screen can achieve a higher contrast ratio than an LCD, whether the LCD uses cold cathode fluorescent lamps or LED backlight. Due to its low thermal conductivity, an OLED typically emits less light per area than an inorganic LED.OLEDs are used in television screens, computer monitors, small, portable system screens such as mobile phones and PDAs, watches, advertising, information, and indication. OLEDs are also used in large-area light-emitting elements for general illumination.

The peak speed requirements for 4G service at 100 Mbit/s for high mobility communication (such as from trains and cars) and 1 Gbit/s for low mobility communication (such as pedestrians and stationary users).

One of the key technologies for 4G and beyond is called Open Wireless Architecture (OWA), supporting multiple wireless air interfaces in an open architecture platform.A 4G system is expected to provide a comprehensive and secure all-internet protocol (IP) based mobile broadband solution to laptop computer wireless modems, smartphones, and other mobile devices. Facilities such as ultra-broadband Internet access, IP telephony, gaming services, and streamed multimedia may be provided to users.

Artificial intelligence (AI) is the intelligence of machines and the branch of computer science that aims to create it. AI textbooks define the field as “the study and design of intelligent agents” where an intelligent agent is a system that perceives its environment and

takes actions that maximize its chances of success. John McCarthy, who coined the term in 1956, defines it as “the science and engineering of making intelligent machines.” The field was founded on the claim that a central property of humans, intelligence—the sapience of Homo sapiens—can be so precisely described that it can be simulated by a machine.

This raises philosophical issues about the nature of the mind and the ethics of creating artificial beings, issues which have been addressed by myth, fiction and philosophy since antiquity. Artificial intelligence has been the subject of optimism, but has also suffered setbacks and, today, has become an essential part of the technology industry, providing the heavy lifting for many of the most difficult problems in computer science. AI research is highly technical and specialized, deeply divided into subfields that often fail in the task of communicating with each other. Subfields have grown up around particular institutions, the work of individual researchers, and the solution of specific problems, resulting in longstanding differences of opinion about how AI should be done and the application of widely differing tools. The central problems of AI include such traits as reasoning, knowledge, planning, learning, communication, perception and the ability to move and manipulate objects. General intelligence (or “strong AI”) is still among the field’s long term goals.

Virtual reality

Most current virtual reality environments are primarily visual experiences, displayed either on a computer screen or through special stereoscopic displays, but some simulations include additional sensory information, such as sound through speakers or headphones. Furthermore, virtual reality covers remote communication environments which provide virtual presence of users with the concepts of telepresence and telexistence or a virtual artifact either through the use of standard input devices such as a keyboard and mouse, or through multimodal devices such as a wired glove, omnidirectional treadmills etc. The simulated environment can be similar to the real world in order to create a lifelike experience—for example, in simulations for pilot or combat training—or it can differ significantly from reality, such as in VR games. In practice, it is currently very difficult to create a high-fidelity virtual reality experience, due largely to technical limitations on processing power, image resolution, and communication bandwidth; however, the technology’s proponents hope that such limitations will be overcome as processor, imaging, and data communication technologies become more powerful and cost-effective over time.

It was a significant moment in the history of flight and the 787 is the biggest innovation in commercial aviation since the Boeing 707 ushered passenger jet travel to the world more than 50 years ago. Made from composite materials, the 787 is the first mid-size airplane capable of flying long-range routes and will allow airlines to open new, non-stop routes preferred by the traveling public. In addition to providing airlines with unprecedented fuel economy and low operating costs, the 787 features a host of new technologies that greatly enhance the passenger experience. Saudi Arabian Airlines has ordered eight Boeing 787s in addition to twenty Boeing 777s. It took delivery of the first 777-300ER, in February this year and will take delivery of the first 787 in 2015.

747-8 – the Jumbo jet gets even betterBoeing added a new airplane to the most famous jumbo 747 family. It is the 747-8 in its two types 747-8 Freighter and 747-8 Intercontinental for passengers or as business jets and they offer airlines the lowest operating costs and best economics of any large passenger or freighter airplane-while providing enhanced environmental performance.

The first 747-8 Freighter was delivered to CargoLux on October last year. Following delivery at the Boeing Delivery Center at the company’s Everett site, the airplane departed for Seattle-Tacoma International Airport, where it received its first cargo load, destined for Cargolux headquarters in Luxembourg. King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh was one of the airplane’s earliest cargo destinations; it landed in Riyadh for the first time in November of the same year.

In February this year, the company delivered the first VIP version of the passenger model, 747-8 Intercontinental. Boeing celebrated that major achievement in the effort to create a Queen of the Skies for the 21st Century and delivered the airplane with a minimal interior. It will enter service in 2014 after its VIP interior is installed

737 MAX performanceThe 737 family offers different types of airplanes that accommodate different customers’ needs. It is the best-selling airplane and Boeing celebrated the delivery of the 7,000th airplane of this kind in December last year. It was delivered to flyDubai – the Dubai-based low cost airline.

In August last year, Boeing unveiled the 737 MAX, the name of the new engine variant of the market-leading 737. The 737 MAX will offer airlines the right solution and the best choice for creating the most successful future with improved profitability, and it will deliver passenger appeal through the new 737 Boeing Sky Interior. raditionally, libraries have been though as a physical space where large collections of books are housed primarily for

reading or study. Throughout the years, libraries have evolved to extend their collections to encompass all print,

audio, and visual materials in various formats. From their humble beginnings where civilizations have stored their

business, legal, historical and religious records in some meaningful classification system, usually on paper or tablets, libraries

have embraced a myriad of information

resources and services that are able to

be accessed from anywhere in the world,

at any time of the day, as long as there

some sort of remote electronic connec-

tion. Libraries have become entities

that are able to extend access to timely,

scholarly information to its patrons be-

yond the normal limitations of its physical

space. It is with this in mind that the

Hassan Abbas Sharbatly e-Library came

into being at Alfaisal University.

At the inception of Alfaisal University,

building a world class institution of higher

education and for research was a daunt-

ing task. Being able to provide appro-

priate resources for the researchers and

students was an even more intimidating

endeavor. Researchers and students rely

on their libraries to be able to provide ac-

cess to the information they need through

a long term collection development plan

to purchase scholarly journals and books

that supports the academic research at

their insititution. Being a new research

based institution, the library at Alfaisal did

not have the history or the space to have

the long runs of journals and books es-

sential for a research library, without in-

curring a huge expense. With so many

journals and books available electronical-

ly, the lack of scholarly publications was

mediated by the use of the online data-

bases, giving the Alfaisal community access to the many resources that are necessary for a research based institution.

HRH Prince Khalid Al Faisal found out that the new King Abdulaziz University received a grant from the Hassan Abbas Sharbatly

Foundation to build a digital library, the Hassan Abbas Sharbatly Digital Library (HASDL) for the researchers and students of the

university. It was that exemplar of cooperation that began the process of developing a world-class library at Alfaisal. The Hassan

Abbas Sharbatly foundation then contacted the University about the possibility of setting up an electronic library at Alfaisal Uni-

versity, and a fact-finding trip by Alfaisal employees to King Abdulaziz University was arranged in order to discuss the setup and

management issues related to the HASDL at KAU. Towards the end of 2009, an agreement was reached between the Sharbatly

Foundation and Alfaisal University in which the Sharbatly Foundation agreed to donate SAR 22 million over a 5-year period

in order for Alfaisal to develop an electronic

library consisting of ejournals, ebooks, OCW

(Open CourseWare), electronic database,

computers, and software in order to enable

the Alfaisal community to “collaborate and

compete on the highest levels of higher edu-

cation and research” (taken from the letter of

intent between the Hassan Abbas Sharbatly

Foundation and Alfaisal University).

The Hassan Abbas Electronic Library is the

core of the Alfaisal University Library Sys-

tem. Because of the generosity of the Shar-

batly Foundation, the Library has been able

to acquire many essential electronic data-

bases that are appropriate to support the

academic mission of the University. Along

with these databases, a separate library for

men and women needed to be equipped with

the necessary hardware and software for the

Alfaisal students to be able to conduct their

research from within the confines of the Uni-

versity, as well as from home. A computer

lab was also outfitted, at first, for the holding

of a single course, but, in keeping with the

space constraints of the University, this area

has morphed to become a lab where multiple

faculty members from the different colleges

are able to hold classes where students are

gaining first hand experience using software

that is essential for their university studies, as

well as their endeavors outside of the class-

room. With the immanent opening of the al-

most 12 thousand square meter library, funds

have been kept in abeyance in anticipation of the expenses that will be incurred in furnishing the new Library with the essential

furniture, hardware, and software that are essential for the Alfaisal community to effectively use and exploit the resources that

were made available to them through the generosity of the Hassan Abbas Sharbatly Foundation.

was born in 1333 H in the city of

Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, where he

received only a basic education before

starting his business career working with

his father when he was only ten years old.

Then, soon after the death of his father, he

established his own business.

Sheikh Hassan Sharbatly became a close

confidant of the founder of Saudi Arabia,

King AbdulAziz bin Abdulrahman Al Saud,

may God rest his soul, and was one of the

founders of Riyad Bank. The late Sheikh

Hassan was a pioneer and a visionary and was

later named an honorary minister by His Maj-

esty the late King Abdulaziz. Sheikh Hassan was

well known throughout the entire Arab world as

a philanthropist and received numerous honors

and awards from several countries for his noble

contributions.

Fastest Growing Company in Saudi Arabia owned by one of Alfaisal MBA students

r. Abdulla Alzamil, an Alfaisal MBA student in the First Cohort was honored at the GCF 2012 (Global Competitiveness Forum) as the winner of first prize in the category 100 fastest Saudi New companies. Mr. Abdallah established his company S-me

(www.s-me.com) in 2009 which is a cross-platform mobile social network service that offers micro blogging and chat service using SMS. Mr. Abdallah’s company (S-me) has also been selected as the winner of the Top 50 SME Award from info Dev Global Competition by The World Bank and International Finance Corporation (IFC) in 2011. S-me was the only GCC company honored in that competition. All of these were achieved while

studding at Al-Faisal University.Mr. Abdullah mentioned that he gained a lot of knowledge and skills from the Alfaisal MBA program and its distinguished faculty who provided him with the best practice approach in running, planning, research, and executing innovative ideas and business plans. In addition to that, Mr. Abdullah highlighted that the Alfaisal MBA program gave him the opportunity to create new friends and relations with his classmates who came from different backgrounds of the business and public sectors including some successful businessmen. Mr. Abdullah took the opportunity to say: “I am very proud to achieve these successes while my studding at Al-Faisal where I learned strategic business thinking that has played a big role in my achievements”Alfaisal University is proud of having Mr. Abdullah Alzamil as a student in its MBA program.

The First President of Alfaisal Student Council (ASC)Now, Alfaisal students have an official council to present their voice and opinions to Alfaisal Leadership after creating an Alfaisal Student Council (ASC). The undergraduate male students voted to select Ahmad Alshibi and his team to lead this council for one year. 2011/2012 is the Year of Women Alfaisal University welcomed its fourth undergraduate cohort, but what was special about it this time was that it included female students for the first time. Many female students have shared with the Admission Office that they had been waiting patiently to hear the announcement of Alfaisal Admission Office that the University would be accepting women. This new source of enrollment translated into the numbers of admitted students which jumped from 185 last year, to 402 this year. Alfaisal Admission Office applies very strict entry criteria in accepting students. Our students represent the highest 5 % of high school graduate students based on Qiyas center categorization. Selecting academic high achiever student is part of Alfaisal’s philosophy which focuses on the quality not the quantity of the students to enhance the college experience of its current students.

November 17th 2011, the first Alfaisal TEDx event was launched.

TEDx AlfaisalU TEDxAlfaisalU presented “The Power of Inspiration”, a full-day event where great people with great ideas came together to share big

ideas. There were 15 speakers from Alfaisal students, faculty, staff and guests with different specialties and disciplines. Each one of them spoke and tried his or her best to inspire the audience to do more, to be better, and to live successfully. The word TED is an abbreviation for Technology Education Design, an organization with a mission to inspire, empower, and spread the strength of ideas. What was unique about TEDxAlfaisal was; Alfaisal Students were the event organizers and planners. Held at the King Faisal Auditorium, the event attracted high profile of speakers such as Dr. Khaled Al-Kattan, Dr. Waleed Fitahi, Dr. Hisham Abad and students like Razan Alazzouni and Naqi Rizvi.

In a presentation that lasted 7 minutes, Dr. Khaled depicted his exploration of successful life with a speech entitled “Inspiration in Every Moment”, and he was a true stimulator to the audience who enjoyed and learned from every moment while he was sharing, entertaining and interacting with the audience.tDr. Waleed’s speech was unique. He engaged the audience by presenting 10 ways that every person should follow to be inspired. Quotes, experiences, and knowledge were shared with the audience in an active session leaving the audience with the message that no one should give up and quit, because quitting is the real failure. The event attracted students, parents, faculty and staff from Alfaisal, as well as a large turnout of students from universities in Riyadh. KFF Senior executives also participated in the event.134 students transferred from their colleges to join Alfaisal University

To accomplish their dreams, 134 male and female students from more than 17 different local and international universities were accepted this year as transferred students. Most of them decided to apply for Alfaisal to seek higher quality of education and to join Alfaisal’s friendly culture which offers the student an unforgettable experience during their college time.

Alfaisal MBA students participated in GCF 2012This year, a group of Alfaisal MBA students were invited by the Saudi Arabian General Investment Authority (SAGIA) to attend the Global Competitive Forum (GCF) which was held in Riyadh from 21-24 January 2012.The Global Competitiveness Forum (GCF), now in its sixth year, has been successfully probing different areas of competitiveness. For 2012, the focus was on the theme of entrepreneurship, or “the process of creating something new and valuable by devoting the necessary time and effort, by embracing the accompanying financial, emotional, and social uncertainties, and opening up to the resulting rewards of personal and possibly monetary satisfaction. The agenda touched on all forms of entrepreneurship – from social entrepreneurship to government, corporate and entrepreneurship to the importance of failure, the value of risk as well as the anatomy of an entrepreneur. The Global Competitiveness Forum (GCF), the only event of its kind, is an annual meeting of global business leaders, international political leaders, and selected intellectuals and journalists brought together to

create a dialogue with respect to the positive impact organizational and national competitiveness can have on local, regional and global economic and social development. It was founded in 2006 by the Saudi Arabian General Investment Authority (SAGIA), and is held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia under the patronage of HM King Abdullah Bin Abdulaziz, the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques. During this Forum, Abdullah Alzamil, one of Alfaisal MBA students was awarded first prize for category 100 Fastest Growing Saudi New Companies. ne of the major achievements this past year has been the success of Alfaisal University faculty in the Saudi Aramco University Collaboration Programs (UCP). Three out of six research proposals submitted by faculty members at Alfaisal University have been accepted for funding as part of the Saudi

Aramco UCP. In response to an invitation by Saudi Aramco, a total of 65 basic and applied research proposals were received from universities in the Kingdom. A rigorous assessment process was employed to recommend proposals for acceptance. A total of 13 research proposals were selected for funding from these submissions in the 2011 cycle of UCP, three of which were Alfaisal faculty submissions.

he Third Annual Student Poster Competition which was held on Wednesday 25 April 2012 at Alfaisal University attracted 30 submissions of which 23 posters from three colleges (Medicine, Engineering and Science & General Studies) were actually presented. This number is greater than in any of the previous two years. In the competition students presented their research activities/ proposals/ future programs. The

Research Day» is held to strengthen the vision that research is indeed one of the missions of Alfaisal University.

We would like to thank all those who took part, students as well as the judges and faculty advisers. Special thanks also go out to the MSA (Medical Student’s Association) who helped to design a standardized poster template.

First Prize went to Azhar Farooqui, Ahmed Abu-Zaid, A’man Inayah,and Naser Ahmed from the College of Medicine for a poster entitled Striatin: A Novel Target for Cardiac Diseases Therapy.

Second Prize was awarded to Cynthia Mosher, Asma Alhoulan, Tehreem Khan, Reem Hamadah, Abdurahman AlHamdani, Yosra AlMakadma, Alaa Hashem and Abdullah Sarkar from the College of Medicine for a poster entitled Improving Breastfeeding in Saudi Arabia: The Baby Friendly Hospital Initiative.

There was a tie for Third Prize. Naqi Haider Rizvi from the College of Engineering receiving an award for a poster entitled Mobility and Navigation Aids for Visually Challenged Individuals in an Indoor Environtment. Mohamed Diya Sabbagh and Abdulaziz AlKattan from the College of Medicine received an award for a poster entitled RP1 And Retinitis Pigmentosa: Report Of Novel Mutations And Insight Into Mutational Mechanism.

All 23 posters will be on display at the Alfaisal University Graduation Ceremony which is schedulled for 20 May 2012. Once again we want to congratulate all those students who took part in this annual event and who helped to make it such an enormous success.
