Who Are They?

Alexisonfire (pronounced "Alexis on fire") was a five-piece, Juno-winning post-hardcore band that formed in St. Catharines, Ontario, Canada[2] in 2001. The band consisted of George Pettit (vocals), Dallas Green (guitar, piano, vocals), Wade MacNeil (guitar, backing vocals), Chris Steele (bass guitar), and Jordan Hastings (drums, percussion).

They describe their music as "the sound of two Catholic high-school girls in mid-knife-fight" (a reference to their song "A Dagger Through the Heart of St. Angeles", also the inspiration for their debut album cover art). When the band came out of the underground like an "utterly captivating car-accident-in-progress" in late 2001, it was enough to impress critics as well as earning their self-titled debut album a gold certification in Canada. In the Early days, most of what they were was an online sensation through the site Myspace which grew their fan base beyond the Niagara region and across Ontario

TheOnlyBandEver

After their success, Alexisonfire was one of the first bands of their generations to actually create their own personal website – www.theonlybandever.com. This became both a means of communication to their fans as members of the band would write posts and updates on tours and just overall messages to their fans. It also would become their means of making money as they set up a store in which to sell merchandise.

Page 10: Alexisonfire

Find your audience:I believe that in this case, Alexisonfire follows suit with Eckerling’s guide. Alexisonfire knew their audience and they used that knowledge to connect with them through various social media platforms. From creating their own website to being involved with some of the most popular music streaming sites and communication sites such as Myspace, Facebook, twitter, and Last.Fm

Post Meaningful, Sharable content:

The Band Shared on its website as well as its Facebook and twitter pages updates for concerts and any new productions in the making. In fact it was solely with Facebook messaging and posting that they were able to inform fans of the final additions to an extended Farewell tour. In this sense I believe they achieve what Eckerling is speaking of.

Page 12: Alexisonfire

Engage your current fans:Even though they have been broken up for over a year now, Alexisonfire still continues to post new material for their fans. They have recently created their own YouTube channel from which they are posting video blogs about various songs and videos that they have released with explanations behind them (all of which are linked to from their Facebook and website)

Continue the Social Push? The website www.theonlybandever.com is no longer a space solely for communication news and events and that makes sense because they are no longer together. However they now have the site purely for the selling of merchandise and pushing their products. In this way they are still able to “hand out swag” from their website by putting forth free material linking to their products

Post consistently? There is a constant Posting on their Facebook page and also their twitter. From simple thoughts to information on merchandise and any future releases, the band is in constant contact with their fans. Considering that they have been “oput of the business” for over a year now, it is interesting to see that they are still able to keep alive their relationship with their fans through social Media.

Ultimately, Alexisonfire has Fit the model set out by Debra Eckerling. In fact there could be an argument made for the validity of her model as it seems to have worked wonders for this group of kids from St. Catharines. The even greater argument would be toward the fact that Alexisonfire’s success and rise in the music industry was attainable Because they had such a strong online presence and social relationship with their fans.
