The UF has defined Six Service Categories that represent the

major areas of demand for 3G-enabled services over the next ten years:

- Mobile Internet Access - Mobile Intranet / Extranet Access - Customised Infotainment - Multimedia Messaging Service (*) - Location-based Services (*) - Rich voice (simple and enhanced)

1) Mobile Internet Access (MIA)A consumer 3G service which offers mobile access to full fixed ISP services with near-wireline transmission quality and functionality. It includes full web access to the Internet as well as file transfer, e-mail, and streaming video/audio capability

2 ) Mobile Internet/Extranet Access (MIEA)A business 3G service that provides secure mobile access to corporate LANs and VPNs

3 ) Customized Infotainment (CIT) A consumer 3G service that provides device-independent access to personalized

content anywhere, anytime via structured mechanisms based on mobile portals

4) Multimedia Messaging Services (MMS) A consumer and business 3G service that offers real-time, multimedia messaging with always-on

capabilities allowing the provision of instant messaging. Targeted at be operator- or user defined

5 ) Location - based Services (LBS) A consumer and business 3G service that enables users to find other people, vehicles or machines. It also enables users to find users, as well as enables users to identify their own location via terminal or vehicle identification

6 ) Rich Voice(enhanced and simple) (RIV) A consumer and business 3G service that is real time and two-way. It provides advanced voice

capabilities (such as VoIP, voice activated net access, and web-initiated voice calls), while still offering traditional mobile voice features (such as operator services, directory assistance and roaming). As the service matures, it will include mobile videophone and multimedia communications

on a Six Service Categories framework, including MMS

and LBS, report its progress at UF GA meetings

UF: stress the effort of CBF in promoting Cell Broadcast

solutions, improving technology and underlying standards,

and developing Cell Broadcast market, report progress

at CBF Plenary meetings
