His t o r y
Aldworth was built by Sir Jam es Knowles in 1869
for Alfred Lord Tennyson, the fam ous poet laurite.
The site, upon which had previously stood an
ancient smugglers Inn, was chosen b y Tennyson
for its unb elievable views and seclusion. The ho use
remained in the Tennyson family until after the
First World War when it was sold to an India n
Maharajah, the Gaekaar of Baroda.
The current owners bought Aldworth in 1996 and
embarked on a huge restoration project over a 3
year period when they transformed Aldworth to its
former glories.

Guildford and after approximately 5 miles, turn
off signed to Milford and Petwor th A283. Follow
the signs to the A283 through Milford and
