APD Notables...
Southeast Area Command...• BikeofficersBaileyandConnercompleteda
“hotspot”tacticalplaninbeats322,323and325.Theofficersarrestedtwooffendersforcommercialburglary,oneforpossessionofmethamphetamine,twoforoutstandingfelonywarrantsandfourformisdemeanorwarrants.
• OfficerMelvinrecoveredstolenpropertytakenfromasoutheastlocation.ThevictimsawhisXboxandtelevisionforsaleontheinternet.Ameetingwassetupwiththeseller.WiththeassistanceofBurglaryUnitdetectivesthepropertywasrecovered.
• Team5officersLuceroandTapiawereinstrumentalinidentifyingasuspectinahomicidethatoccurredintheNortheastHeights.ThesuspectwaslocatedandtakenintocustodywithoutincidentonDecember17.
• TheSoutheastImpactTeamworkedonOperationHotSpot,acrimeinitiativeusingpredictiveanalysistodeterminelocationsoffuturecriminalactivity.
• OnDecember5,DetectiveD.Lopezconductedaninvestigationinreferencetoanaggravatedbattery.ThesuspectwasnearCentralandRhodeIslandwhenhesawhisex-brother-in-law.Thesuspectfollowedhisex-brother-in-lawintothebathroomandstabbedhiminthestomach.DetectiveLopezobtainedanarrestwarrantforattemptedfirstdegreemurder.
• OnDecember8,DetectiveJ.Kellyconductedaninvestigationofamanregardingthepurchaseofjewelrythatthesuspectpurchasedwithastolencheck.Thesuspectwenttoalocaljewelryshopandpurchased$1,284worthofjewelry.DetectiveJ.Kellywasabletoidentifythemanandobtainanarrestwarrant.Thesuspectwasfeaturedinthemediaforhiscrimespreethatinvolvedstolenchecks,creditcards,andidentitytheft.Thereareapproximately70chargespendingattheDistrictAttorney’sofficefortheman.
• InDecember,theSoutheastImpactTeamfocusedoninvestigatingAFIShits(latentfingerprints)fromoldautoburglaries.Twenty-twoinvestigationswereinitiatedusingtheinformation,resultingin10felonywarrantsforpropertycrimeoffenders.
• OnDecember16,OfficerA.TapiawaswatchedthenewswhensheobservedaphotoofahomicidesuspectfromaCrimeStoppers
broadcast.Amanhadmurderedafemaleatalocalmotel.OfficerTapiarememberedthatshehadmetthemanwhosepicturewasdisplayedonthenewswhileworkingintheNortheastAreacommand,butcouldnotrecallhisname.OfficerTapiacontactedOfficerD.Lucerowhoalsohadpreviouscontactwiththeoffender.OfficerLuceroadvisedherthatthevictimofthehomicidehadbeenidentified.Bothofficersrecalledthenameofthevictim’sboyfriendandconferredwithOfficerG.Vigilwhohadrespondedtoapriordomesticviolencecallinvolvingthetwo.OfficersTapiaandBurtwenttothelastknownhomelesscampsandareasfrequentedbythemaninanattempttolocatehim,butwereunsuccessful.OnDecember17,OfficerBurttookacallregardingasuspiciousmalethatresembledthehomicidesuspect.OfficerBurtcalledOfficerTapiatoconfirmtheoffender’sinformationpriortogoingonscene.BasedontheinformationobtainedbyOfficerTapiaandtheassistanceprovidebyOfficerBurt,themanwastakenintocustody.OfficerTapiabriefedDetectiveR.Landovazoandwasabletohelplinkthemantothedeceasedfemale.BasedonthediligentworkbyofficerTapiaandtheheadsuppolicingbyOfficerBurt,DetectiveLandovazowasabletoobtainafullconfessionfromthemanforthemurderofthevictim.
Foothills Area Command...• InDecember,theFoothillsAreaCommand
workedanintensiveoperationinlocalretailcenterstothwartautoburglary,autothefts,pursesnatching/robberies,andshopliftingduringtheholidayseason.
• TheFoothillsAreaCommandcontinuedtoimplementatacticalplanthatfocusedonissuesatmulti-familyapartmentcomplexes.EveryFoothillsAreaCommandofficerisassignedtoanapartmentcomplex.Theofficersdoperioddrivepatrolsandworkwithmanagementtoaddressissues.
• OnDecember29,OfficersD.TorresandJ.Smithweredispatchedtoasuspiciouspersonscallatasoutheastlocation.Thecalleradvisedthattheyhadlookedouttheirrearslidingglassdoorandsawanunknownsubjectattemptingtogainentry.Thesubjectstatedthathewaslookingfor‘Brian’andthesubjectleftthehomepriortoofficer’sarrival.OfficersTorresandSmiththenattemptedtolocatethemalesubjectintheneighborhood.OfficerTorreswitnesseda
childabuse.Anamountofheroinwasalsoseizedfromfouradditionalsubjectsleavingtheresidence.
Valley Area Command...• Watch1officerscontinuedtoworkthe
DowntownTacticalPlanonFridayandSaturdaynights.TheTacticalPlanfreedupmoreofficerstorespondtoregularcallsforserviceintheValleyAreaCommand.
• TheValleyAreaCommandhadaverybusyholidayseason.Officersworkedonamonth-longtacticalplaninOldTown,theRenaissanceareaandDowntowntoensurethatresidentsweresafeastheyshopped.Therewerenomajorincidentsrelatedtoholidayshopping.
• TheTwinkleLightParadeandtheNobHillShopandStrollwerepatrolledbybikeofficersaswellastheValleyPowerTeam.Botheventsweresuccessfulwithnoincidents.
• OfficersfromtheValleyAreaCommandassistedwiththeBlueStarMothersfooddrivetosendcarepackagestothetroopsinAfghanistan.Officershelpedpackboxesandthenparticipatedinthecaravantotakeallofthefoodboxestothepostofficefordelivery.OfficersalsoparticipatedintheRoadrunnerFoodBankHolidayFoodDriveandtheToysforTotsevent.
• OfficerS.LowellassistedDrugEnforcementagentswithasubjectwhotriedtoescapefromthemattheGreyhoundBusDepot.Themanwascapturedandfoundtobeinpossessionofalargeamountofnarcoticsandmoney.
• Valleydayshiftofficerswereinvolvedinalargeareasearchforasubjectwhostoleasemi-automaticsub-machinegunfromalocalpawnshop.Aftercrashingtheirvehicle,theoffenderranfromthevehiclewiththeguninhishand.OfficerA.Saladinwitnessedtheaccidentandpursuedthesubjectonfoot.Duetothequickresponse,aperimeterwassetupandtheoffenderwaslocatedwiththehelpofK-9unit.
• DuringtheHolidayTacticalPlan,asuspiciousvehiclewasseendrivingthroughparkinglotsintheRenaissancearea.Thevehiclewasstoppedandalargeamountofcopperwirewasfoundinadditiontoburglarytools.AlsoduringtheHolidayTacticalPlan,asubjectwasobservedrunningoutofanOldTownbusinesswithmerchandise.Hewaspickedupinavehiclewhichwasquicklystopped.Onesubjecthadafelonywarrantandwasinpossessionofheroin.

malesubjectinsideavehicleandmadecontact.Themalesubjectwasidentifiedandwasfoundtohavepropertyfromthevehicleonhisperson.HewaslateridentifiedashavingbeenarrestedforautoburglarysixtimessinceSeptemberforautoburglaryandotherpropertycrimes.HewasbookedintoMDC.
• OnDecember4,OfficerJ.Maleckirespondedtoalocalapartmentcomplexinresponsetoasuspiciousmalesubjectinsideofanapartment.Uponarrival,OfficerMaleckimadecontactwithsecuritywhoadvisedthewindowpanestotheapartmentwerebrokenandthatsomeonewasinsidethevacantapartment.Officerswereabletogainentryandlocatedamalesubjectstandinginthekitchen.Thesubjectstatedhewaslookingforhisgirlfriend.Hewasarrestedforbreakingandenteringandbooked.
• OnDecember5,OfficerC.Rodymadeafelonyarrestforfalseimprisonmentatanortheastlocation.Thesuspecthadstruckhisgirlfriendovertheheadwithabeerbottlewhiletheyweredriving.Allfouroftheirchildrenwerepresentinthevehiclewhenthiseventoccurred.
• OnDecember26,officersreceivedmultiplecallsfromresidentsindicatingtheyheardoverninegunshotsfiredinthearea.OfficerV.Martinezdidanexcellentjobofpatrollingtheareaandfindingthesuspect.Amalesubjecthadbrokenupwithhisgirlfriendandwantedtocommitsuicide.Thesuspectthoughthewouldscareherbyfiringseveralroundsintheair.Oneoftheroundsstruckanapartmentandthesubjectwasarrestedonfelonychargesforshootingatadwelling.
• DetectiveMillerlocatedamarijuanagrowwhenrespondingtoadomesticviolencecallwheretheoffenderwasarmedwithagun.Theoffenderwastakenintocustodywithoutincidentandthehandgunwasrecovered.Asearchwarrantwasobtainedandthemarijuana,alongwithanassaultriflewasseized.
• TheFoothillsImpactTeamconductedsurveillanceonanortheastapartmentinreferencetonarcoticsactivity.TheAPDGangUnitassistedintheexecutionofthesearchwarrant.Amanwasarrestedfortraffickingheroinandhishalfsisterwasarrestedforpossessionofheroin.Thesister’stwo-year-oldsonwasresidingintheapartmentatthetime.Duetoseveralloadedheroinsyringesandparaphernaliaintheapartmentwithinthechild’sreach,thepairwerealsochargedwith

methamphetamine.OfficersWhighamandHenckelarrestedaburglaryoffender.OfficerHernandezarrestedasubjectforaggravatedburglary,andwasabletolocatethevictim’sproperty.OfficerHernandezalsoarrestedanothersubjectforfeloninpossessionofafirearmandseized8.5gramsofcocaineonthesamearrest.
• Valleyofficersrespondedtoaburglaryinprogresscall.Team6officerslocatedtheoffenderasheenteredavehicleandtookhimintocustodywithoutincident.
• TheValleyAreaCommandhasbeenveryresponsivetotheneedsandtheconcernsofthecitizenswholivewithinthecommand.Inresponsetorecentconcernsaboutillegallyparkedvehiclesinhandicapparkingspots,officerspatrolledtheareaandcitednumerousvehicles.Everytraffictacticalplanthatwasrequestedbyresidentswasimplementedandresultsweregenerated.
Southwest Area Command...• InDecember,OfficerLopezcompleteda
shoplifting/loitering/panhandlingtacticalplanatnear98thStreetandCentralAvenue.OfficerLopezcontactedsevenbusinesses,resultingingreatlydiminishedcallsforserviceinthearea.
• OfficerBrownimplementedastopsigntacticalplaninresponsetocitizencomplaintsatAvalon/Estancia,resultingin15traffic-relatedcitations.OfficerBrownalsotookcontrolduringaseveresnowstormandmadethedecisiontocloseAtriscoduetobadroadconditions.Eventuallyroadcrewswereabletosandandsalttheroadandreopenitinatimelymanner.
• OnDecember19,OfficerGarciaarrestedtwofemalesforshoplifting;onefemalehadanoutstandingwarrantforforgeryandshoplifting.
• OfficersCandelariaandGarciacompletedaholidaytacticalplanalongCoorsandCentralthattargetedshoplifting,trafficinfractions,robberiesandautoburglaries.Thetacticalplanresultedinsevenmisdemeanorcitations,sixcitationsfordrinkinginpublic,threearrestsforshoplifting,andsixreports.
• OnDecember4,OfficerM.VallejosrespondedtoarestaurantalongCentralAvenueinreferencetoapossibleautoburglaryinprogress.Thesuspectusedaguntobreakthewindowofthevictim’scar.OfficerVallejosdeterminedthatthesuspectwouldfleeintothesurroundingneighborhoodtoescapecapture.
OfficerVallejosspottedasubjectmatchingthedescriptioninaneighborhoodneartherestaurantandheldthesubjectatgunpointuntilmoreofficerscouldassistintakingthesubjectintocustody.Thesuspectwasidentifiedandwasarrestedforpossessionofheroinafterthevictimoftheautoburglaryrefusedtocooperate.Officerssearchedthesurroundingareafortheweaponpossiblyusedinthecommissionofthecrime,butwereunabletofindit.Thefollowingmorning,twobodieswerediscoveredinaValleyAreaCommandpark.UnbeknownsttoOfficerVallejos,theautoburglarysuspectswasthemainsuspectinthemurderofthetwoindividualsandwassubsequentlychargedwiththetwomurders.OfficerVallejos’uncannyabilitytolocatesuspectsbycoveringescaperoutesleadtothearrestofanindividualwhowasadangertotheAlbuquerquecommunity.
• SeveralofficersandPSAT.CarmanconductedillegalhandicappedparkingtacticalplansduringDecember.Theillegalparkingisespeciallyproblematicduringtheheavyholidayshoppingseason.Azerotoleranceapproachwastakenandenforcementactionsweretakenonallillegallyparkedvehicles.Theofficerswrote79handicappedparkingcitations.
• OnDecember23,OfficersD.Nix,S.Macfarlane,andL.Monterescuedtwosmallchildrenfromhorriblechildabuses.Oneoffenderwaspainstakinglytrackeddownandarrestedandtheotheroffenderhasawarrantforhisarrest.Theofficersthenwenttoastoreandpurchasedalargeamountofitemsforthechildrenincludingclothesandtoys.TheofficersvisitedthechildrenontheirowntimetoensurethattheyhadthebestChristmaspossible.
• InDecember,theOpenSpaceSectionsupportedvariousholidayactivitiesaroundtheBiopark.TheSectionimplementedtacticalplanstoreducepropertycrimesandillegalcamping.InDecember,fivecampsiteswerediscovered.TheSectionlogged1,302hoursofpatrolonfootandATV.Atotalof41tacticalplanhourswerelogged.Significantcontactwasmadewith1,729visitorswhereOpenSpaceofficersansweredquestionsandhandledproblems.
Northwest Area Command...• WatchIofficersnotedariseinautoburglary
incidentsatseveralapartmentcomplexesacrosstheareacommand.Officersineachofthethreesquadsinitiatedtacticaloperationsinaneffort

todeteroreliminatefurtheroccurrences.Asaresult,therewasasignificantdecreaseintheamountofburglariesreportedthroughoutthecommand.
• Trafficenforcementplanswereinitiatedatanumberofhigh-riskintersectionswithinthecommand.Thetacticaloperationsresultedintheissuanceof128trafficcitationsand34parkingcitations.Inadditiontonormalactivity,graveyardshiftofficersparticipatedintheHolidayTacticalOperationwhichresultedinanumberofarrests.Moreimportantly,theplanreducedoverallcrimewithinthecommandduringitsoperation.Atotalof32propertycrimereductionoperationswereconductedduringthemonthonthegraveyardshift.
• WatchIIofficersandtheNorthwestImpactTeamparticipatedintheNorthwestHolidayTacticalOperationwhichinvolvedincreasedpatrols,undercoverpresence,dailyfieldbriefingsnearthemalls,bigboxstoresandrelatedbusinessessothathistoricalpropertycrimeincreaseswerenotexperienced.Thetacticaloperationwasaverysuccessfuleffort.
• Dayshiftofficersalsoconductedpropertycrimereductionoperationsaswellaspanhandleroperationsthroughoutthecommand.Trafficaccidentreductionplanswereconductedthroughoutthecommand.
• TheImpactTeamPOPprojectfocusedonautoburglariesinBeats615and634,whichhavehistoricallybeenhighinthecommandoverthelastfewmonthsoftheyear.InconjunctionwiththeHolidayTacticalPlan,ImpactTeamdetectivesmadenumerousfelonyarrests.
• OnDecember17,DetectiveFickewasassignedamissingpersoncasewhichhadactuallyoriginatedintheSouthwestAreaCommand.ThroughherinvestigationandwiththeassistanceofNorthwestImpactdetectivesandNorthwestfieldunits,asuspectwasidentifiedandlaterinterviewed.ThroughtheeffortsofDetectiveFickeandDetectiveJ.Romero,ahomicideconfessionwasobtained.Thehomicidehadresultedfromanarcoticsdealwhichhadturnedbad.AnoutstandingeffortbySergeantD.Walton’steamandNorthwestfieldunitsresultedinthelocationofabodynearLaguna,NewMexico.Alsolocatedwastheoffender’svehiclewhichwasusedduringthecommissionofthecrime.
• WatchIIILieutenantT.HudsondevelopedandimplementedtheHolidayTacticalOperation.
ManyoftheoperationalfacetsoftheplanwereWatchIII’sresponsibility.TheoperationwasagreatsuccessandresultedinthereductionofmajoreventswithinthecommandalongtheCoorsBoulevardcorridorandatallofthelargeretailoutlets.CommanderWarfieldreceivedseveralcallsandemailsfrombusinessownersaswellaslosspreventionpersonnelfromstoresthankinghimandhisofficersfortheireffortsduringthemajorretaileventperiod.TargetwasexceptionallygratefultoLieutenantT.HudsonandallNorthwestofficersfortheireffortsduringtheBlackFridayweekend.
• OfficersRogersandHannumapprehendedapairofautothieveswhohadattemptedtostealabaitvehicle.OfficerD.HenrylocatedanddisarmedafelonatCottonwoodMall.OfficersRogersandE.Martinezstoppedanin-progressarmedrobberyatacarwashonCoorsBoulevard.Theywereabletolocateandarresttheoffenderwhowasinaphysicalstrugglewithstoreemployees.
Northeast Area Command...• OfficerJ.Potterconductedatacticalplanin
responsetocriminalactivityathotelsandmotelswithintheareacommand.OfficerPotterdidanexcellentjobkeepinguphighpolicevisibility,makingseveralcontactswithsubjectswalkingaroundanddoingtrafficenforcementinthearea.Twoarrestsweremadeduetowarrantsand20citationswereissued.
• OfficersLealandMartinezweredispatchedtoanortheastresidenceinresponsetoasmallchildfoundbarefootanddressedonlyinpajamasallaloneonacurbsideTheremarksonthecallalsoindicatedthechildhadredmarksindicativeofahandprintonherfaceandatleastoneblackeye.Investigationbyofficersrevealedthatthechild’smotherwasattendingschoolandhadleftthechildinthecareofamalesubjectwhoisaparttimeresidentoftheapartment.Themalesaidhehadfallenasleepandthechildwasabletoescapeonherownbyunlockingthedoor.ThemotherwasveryelusiveabouthowlongthedaycareissuehasbeenoccurringandultimatelyCYFDandCACUpersonnelwerecontactedtotakeovertheinvestigation.A48-hourholdwasultimatelyplacedonthechild.
• OfficersMarquezandCadroyapprehendedtworesidentialburglarsonDecember20.OnDecember23,thetwoofficersapprehendedanadditionaltwooffendersafteraperimeterwassetupwithassistancefromtheK9unit
andNortheastdayshiftpersonnel.Alsotoaddtotheirefforts,OfficersMarquezandCadroyapprehendedastrongarmrobberysuspectonDecember4.TheoffenderwasresponsiblefornumerousstrongarmrobberiesintheNortheastArea Command.
• AresidentialburglarywasreportedtoAPDDispatch.A14-year-oldwaslockedinabathroomattheresidenceandwasonthelinewith911.Atthetimeofthecall,SergeantC.Georgewaswithinablockoftheincident.SergeantGeorgeobservedavehicleleavingtheareawhichmatchedthedescriptionofavehicleinvolvedinanotherresidentialburglaryearlierintheweek.ThedescriptionwasgiventoMotorOfficerM.SandovalwhowasabletoconductatrafficstopatLouisianaandWilshire.Thevictimwascalledtothelocationandidentifiedthestolenpropertywhichwasinplainview.Basedonthemodusoperandi,theburglarsincustodymayhavebeeninvolvedinover20burglariesintheNortheastAreaCommand.
• OfficerC.Duboisconductedanautoburglarytacticalplanthathadbeenespeciallyhardhitbyautoburglars.OfficerDuboisusedhotspotmapsandcrimeanalysisdatatoassisthimwithhisefforts.Healsotookaproactiveapproachbymaintainingahigh-visibilitypresenceintheareaaswellasstoppingandidentifyingsuspiciouspeopleinthetargetarea.
• Team9officerscontinuedtoimplementapropertycrimestacticalplaninthenorthernsectorsoftheNortheastAreaCommand.OfficersAragonandWhitenwereabletoarresttwosubjectswhowerecasingneighborhoodsnearLouisianaandPaseoDelNorte.Bothhadfelonywarrantsandhadjustcommittedacommercialburglaryatalocallargeretailer.
Scientific Evidence Division...• TheMajorCrimeSceneTeamresponded
tosixcalloutsforthemonthofDecember.MajorCrimeSceneUnitpersonnelfacilitateda“CSIexperience”foravictimadvocatesconference.The“CSIexperience”wasalargeprojectcontainingtwofull,mockcrimescenesthatwereviewedbysmallgroupsofconferenceattendees.Theattendeesweregiveninvestigativeinformationandwereallowedtoexamineevidencefromthescenes.Participantswerethenaskedtonametheoffender.Thenameoftheoffenderwasrevealedthelastdayoftheconference,withadoorprizedrawingforthose
whoselectedcorrectly.• In2011,theEvidenceUnitspearheadedthe
implementationofanautomatedevidencedispositionreviewinitiativethatresultedina20%reductioninevidenceinventory(53,388itemsdisposed).Thissystemallowedofficerstoreceiveevidencedispositionreviewnoticesviaemailandcompletedispositionactionson-line.Officersarereviewingandsigningoffonarecord5,500itemspermonththroughtheevidenceportal.
• TheIdentification/DispositionUnitmaintainedanannualaverageresponserateoffiveminutesformorethan22,000,10-digitfingerprintverificationsfromoldandnewarreststhisyear.Workflowchangestothecriminalhistorydataentryprocessesresultedinareductionofthelagtimetoenterarrestdemographics,from180daysto35days.
• AmongmanynotableitemstheLatent/FingerprintUnitwasinstrumentalintheapprehensionandcaptureofanotoriouspropertycrimeoffender.Whileperformingroutineprintidentificationprocedures,thesuspectwasfoundtohavebeeninvolvedinmorethan20burglariesintheCityOfAlbuquerque.Asaresult,theinformationwasrelayedtotheburglaryunitandawarrantwassecured,removingthiscriminalfromthestreet.
• InDecember,IdentificationTechniciansand1rehireofficercompleted96casedispositions;12employmentbackgrounds,33firearmbackgrounds,and99FBIbackgroundrequests.234RAPsandphotosweredistributed;30newAPDapplicantswerefingerprinted;1,603fingerprintswereclassifiedinAFISand1,644newandoldarrestswereprocessedintotheTIBURONCriminalHistoryRecordduringnormalshiftoperations.Unitstaffalsovalidated425firearmbackgroundsonholdpendingcasedisposition.
• InDecember,15fulltimecityevidencetechniciansand1rehireofficerreceived3,349evidenceitems;duplicated720audio/videorecordingsandsupported32pre-trialviewings.TheUnitalsoreturned263itemstotheirowners,disposedof1,013items,andrecovered$12,566.69fromauctionincome.Anadditional7,600itemsmetfinaldispositionprocessingrequirementsand3,158itemsarependingdestructioncourtorders.

Communications Division...• TheAPD911CommunicationsCenterstaff
answered65,166incoming911and242-COPScallsinDecember.Therewere25,892callsansweredfor911and39,274callsansweredfor242-COPS.911Operatorsanswered93.75%ofthe911callswithin10seconds(nationalstandardis90%,APD’sFY11/12standardis93.37%);operatorsalsoanswered96.76%ofthe242-COPScallswithin30seconds(APD’sgoalis90%answeredwithin30seconds).
• Atoyandgiftdrivewasorganizedby911dispatchersandoperatorsfromCommunicationsforthelittlegirlswhowerefoundabusedandneglectedinanearlierpoliceresponse.
• TheCenterhelditsannualChristmastreedecoratingcontestwitheachofthethreeshiftsdecoratingatree.JudgesCommanderBakas,NateKornandDeborahPeacockfromKaufman’sWestandChiefSchultzselecteddayshiftasthewinningtree.Dayshiftemployeeswillreceiveamealsponsoredbythe911MoraleCommittee.

• CNAUDetectivesfocusedonclosingoutcasesfortheendoftheyear.Theywereabletocloseoutseveralcaseswhichwehadbeenmonitoringforquitesometimethathadnothadanynewcallsforserviceatthelocations.
• CourtServicesscheduled202pretrialhearings,processed370arraignments,submitted232felonycasestotheDistrictAttorney’soffice,andsubmitted210summonstoMetroCourt.
• TheTelephoneReportUnitgenerated361telephonereportsand129telephonesupplementalreportswhichresultedinatotalsavingsof$19,600and1,274officerhoursifthecallsforreportsweredispatchedtoFieldServices.

• AlsoonDecember7whileonacallintheFoothills,Air1observedasuspiciousvehicle(agreyorlightbluecompactcar)drivingwithoutlightsoninanareathatofficerswerein.Air1observedthevehicleturnaroundandpark.ThevehiclethenproceededtoaconveniencestoreatCentralandWesternSkies.Thedriverwentintothebusiness,thenreturnedtohiscar.Air1observedthesubjectdrivebehindandaroundagrocerystoreatCentralandFourHillsdrivinginamannerthatwasnotonlysuspiciousbutimpedingtraffic.Air1requestedthatamarkedunitstopandcheckthevehicle.AsAir1continuedtofollowthevehicle,Air1observedthevehicleturnfromnorthboundTramwayontotheEastboundofframpforI-40;thevehicleproceededwestboundontheeastboundoff-rampontoeastboundI-40(travelingwestontheeastboundfreeway).Air1updatedtheunitsofthevehicle’sactivitiesandupdatedthemonitslocation;afteraveryshortvehiclepursuitthevehiclewasstoppedonthefreewaybetweenEubankandJuanTabo.Thedriverwasa70-year-oldmalewhowastakenintocustodyforamentalhealthevaluation.

attemptedtorunfromtheofficer,droppingthemoped.Anotherofficerapprehendedoneofthesubjects(afemale)almostimmediatelyandobservedthesecondsubjectrunwestthroughanalley.Air1arrivedandstartedaFLIRsearchofthearea.Air1locatedasubjecthiding,lyingdowninafieldwestofthefirstofficercoveredwithlargeweeds.AperimeterwassetupandK-9unitsresponded.AsearchteamwithK-9unitsheadedtothesubjectandtookhimintocustody.Thesubjecthadfelonywarrantsandwasatargetofaninvestigationtodetermineifthesubjectwasinvolvedintherobberyofthesmokeshop.
• OnDecember22,Air5flewDetectiveM.MoralesoftheAutoTheftUnitonatacticalplantolocatestolenvehiclesontheSouthwestMesa.DetectiveMoralesstatedthattheywerelookingforaspecificvehicleinthearea.Air5immediatelylocatedthevehicleinquestionandDetectiveMoraleswasabletogetGPScoordinatessothatthevehiclecouldberecovered.Thecrewwasalsoabletolocateandgetcoordinatesforseveralotherpossiblestolenvehicles.ThevehicleswillberecoveredbytheAutoTheftUnit.

sixbombcallouts.Theseincludedrecovering15oldroadflaresatanortheastresidence;recoveringapipebombatanorthwestlocation,andrespondingtoasuspiciouspackagethatwasbeepingonRainbowNWwhichturnedouttobesmokedetectorswrappedinsideabag.

• OnDecember10,GangUnitdetectivesassumedinvestigativeresponsibilityforashootingcall(victimshotintheheadseveraltimes).Throughinvestigation,twosuspectswerepositivelyidentified.Bothsuspectshadextremelyviolentcriminalhistories.Surveillancewassetup,andbothsuspectsweretakenintocustodyatseparatelocations.StreetGangsassistedwiththearrests.
• OnDecember12,amaneludedofficersanddetectiveswhowereattemptingtoarresthimonseveralfelonywarrants.GangdetectivesspentthenextweekcontactingandarrestingallknownassociatesofthemanuntilhewaslocatedonDecember20.Hetriedtohideinthebathroomofhisgirlfriend’sresidence.Thecaseresultedinthreeadditionalfelonyarrestsforharboring/aidingafugitive.
• TheViceUnitassistedtheNewMexicoStatePolicewithachildsupportwarrantround-upthatresultedinthearrestsoftwoindividualsandclearingfivefelonyarrestswarrants.TheUnitalsoconductedanarcoticsinvestigationthatresultedinthearrestofthreeindividualsoneofwhichwasinterviewedbyHomicidedetectivesregardingthedeathofalocalwoman.Fivegramsofcrackcocainewereseizedduringtheinvestigation.
