Dear Friends,

It’s an honor and privilege to support live theatre and the arts through the Albuquerque Theatre Guild.

The hard working and talanted artists of Bernalillo County offer a wealth of performance opportunities for our communities each week, from mysteries to improv to dinner theatre. This improves the quality of life for all and opens doors for actors and performers of all abilities to hone their skills and reach new audiences.

I consider myself lucky to make a living in the arts. It’s groups like the Albuquerque Theatrre Guild that make stories like mine possible. Thank you for all that you do for the people of Bernalillo County,

Sincerely,

Steven Michael QuezadaVice ChairBernalillo County Commission

The Adobe TheATer est. 19572017 is The Adobe’s Diamond Anniversary - 60 years!

Remaining shows in the 1st half of 2017

the ShAdow box by Michael Cristofer. The play takes place in three separate cabins on there grounds of a private hospital. In each cabin, one family member struggles with the end of their treatment & their mortality. Winner of The Pulitzer Prize for Drama and the “Best Play” Tony Award.

the MikAdo by Gilbert & Sullivan. The Mikado remains the most frequently performed comic operas in the world. Set in Japan (to allow G&S to satirize British policies & institutions,The Mikado is one of the most frequently played musical theatre pieces in history. Come see Yum-Yum, The Lord High Executioner, The Lord High Everything Else, and - of course - The Mikado!

CoMe blow Your horN by Neil Simon. One of the best-loved and funniest plays by one of America’s best-loved and funniest playwrights, Neil Simon. His first play, Come Blow Your Horn set the standard for comedic shows. Sharp dialogue, hilarious situations, and a finely drawn character study of a “typical” (?) New York Family.

fuNNY MoNeY by Ray Cooney. Middle-aged Henry Perkins, on his way to a birthday dinner, picks up the wrong briefcase from the subway & discovers it’s full of money! And that’s just the start of things! “Mister Big” & “Mister Nasty” get involved, & the coppers are interested, too! Screwball comedy at its best.

the SAvANNAh SuPPiNg SoCietY by Jessie Jone, Nicolas Hope, and Jamie Wooten. Four unique Southern women decide it’s high time to reclaim the enthusiasm for life they’ve lost through the years. Together, they discover that it’s never too late to make new old friends. So raise your glass to these strong Southern women and their fierce embrace of life and say “Cheers!” to this joyful comedy!

MusICAl TheATre souThWesT est. 1959Premier community musical theatre of New Mexico

evitA Lyrics by Tim Rice, music by Andrew Lloyd Webber Directed by Art Tedesco. April 7 - 30

Argentina’s controversial First Lady is the subject of this dynamic musical masterpiece. As an illegitimate fifteen year old, Eva escaped her dirt-poor existence for the bright lights of Buenos Aires. Driven by ambition and blessed with charisma, she was a starlet at twenty-two, the president’s mistress at twenty-four, First Lady at twenty-seven, and dead at thirty-three. Shortly before her death, she was given the title Spiritual Leader of the Nation. The musical tells of her rise to fame through the eyes of the people, using an omniscient narrator to chart her journey.

greeN dAY’S AMeriCAN idiot Music by Green Day, Lyrics by Billie Joe Armstrong, Book by Billie Joe Armstrong and Michael Mayer

Directed by Nathan Hererra. July 7 - 30. Two-time Tony Award-winning hit musical. Johnny, Tunny and Will struggle to find meaning in a post-9/11 world. When the three disgruntled men flee the constraints of their hometown for the thrills of city life, their paths are quickly estranged when Tunny enters the armed forces, Will is called back home to attend to familial responsibilities, and Johnny’s attention becomes divided by a seductive love interest and a hazardous new friendship. An energy-fueled rock opera, American Idiot, features little dialogue and instead relies on the lyrics from Green Day’s groundbreaking album to execute the story line.

lAs MeGAnenAs est. 2004Las Meganenas (“the big girls”) is a troupe of Latina women operating from the core belief that its members hold a unique position in society, that of storytellers. It is through storytelling that a culture’s values, beliefs and spirituality are conveyed indelibly to the listener’s imaginations, allowing them to put themselves in others’ shoes.

Las Meganenas tell stories through performance pieces related to global issues. Las Meganenas presented their original play, the ChuPACAbrA CANtiNA, as part of Women & Creativity in 2015 and 2016. They premiered the play as part of the National Hispanic Cultural Center’s Siembra, Latino Theatre Festival in the Spring of 2015, and enjoyed sold out performances and a great response from the community. Las Meganenas continue to write and plant seeds of justice through their work.

The enChAnTed rose est. 2006Now for some really BIG and EXCITING news!!

We are proud to announce that this past year’s original production “wiSh uPoN A StAr… unauthorized intimate reflections with Walt Disney”, written by Andy Mayo and starring Vernon Poitras, was so well received, we are taking it on the road around Albuquerque, around New Mexico and beyond!! Catch it while you can!

“…. Poitras resembled Disney to the extent that when the lights come up, there is a low but audible reaction from the crowd. …. when Poitras breaks into an uncanny impersonation of Disney voicing Mickey Mouse, the depths of Disney’s abilities and the actor’s are revealed.” (Stephanie Hainsfurther…Talkin’ Broadway)

“Poitras looked and played the part perfectly…. (he) hooked the audience making the character alive, visceral and engaging. Truly it was a wonderful performance.” (Katrina K. Guarascio…. Swimming with Elephants)

Check for news and details on this amazing production under our name, on the Albuquerque Theatre Guild website, www.abqtheatre.org. WE’RE SETTING THE STAGE FOR GREAT ENTERTAINMENT! for more information, email:[email protected]
