Existing Album Cover Research

This is the original Album cover of Ellie Gouldings Album, which features 'Your Song’. I really like the first image, and I think it captures the colours around well, and I also like the way that the lens flares are exaggerated and used to look like lights in both versions. I also like the second image, with the hair flick, however it does not relate to my song in particular, and so I probably won’t use this feature in mine.

- Head tilted back position, looking up at the sky.

This first album cover inspired me a lot. It gave me and idea to use black and white effects to express the narrative of my music video. I could show the background, and the guy in black and white and the girl in colour to show that he no longer exists in her world.

The second album cover is for a love song, and features her holding a flower. This could be a good idea for my music video album cover, as the flower will be a significant icon in my video. I also like the casual look about her and the colours connote a very acoustic feel to the album.

The third album is again, using the hair flick, but in this photographed it is used in a different way. I think that the hair flick looks very effective, but portrays a more positive view of their feelings which is not the point I want to get across.

The fourth album is very aesthetically pleasing, and I really like the use of shadows. I think that shadows would be a good technique to use in my album as it can show that there is a good side to the song, and a bad side.

USEFUL IDEAS:

- Use of shadows to connote a split narrative.

I really like this album cover, and I think that it is also very striking and eye catching. The composition and idea behind this album cover is very good and I think that I could express my narrative through a photograph like this.

If I was to use this sort of idea, I would have the door to the girls house\or bedroom, with a note on the handle saying ‘WE used to be here’. This will show that the girl and the guy are no longer together, and question weather the girl is actually there still as well.

Although I think this is a really good idea, and would work well with my narrative.. I think that it would work better as a promotion poster, rather than an album cover. I will bare this in mind when choosing a structure for my poster.
