A new hotel is taking shape at the Albany Waterfront.
Proponent: Main Roads Value: $175 million Location:
AlbanyDescription: A heavy haulage route around the City of Albany
for the transport of product including grain, fertiliser and
woodchips to and from the Port of Albany. The ring road will link
the existing major arterial roads and highways radiating from
Albany, while bypassing urban areas and providing improved access
to the Mirambeena Strategic Industrial Area. Planning commenced in
1997 with a selection of a route and inclusion within the town
planning scheme. In 2008, a Route Definition Study was finalised
which identified the preferred route and an access strategy. Stages
2 and 3 include $35 million from the State Government and $140
million from the Australian Government.Status: Construction is on
track to commence in late September, with Decmil Southern Pty Ltd
named the preferred company for delivery. Stage 1 (Chester Pass Rd

Affordable Student Accommodation Stage Two
Proponent: Advance HousingValue: $16 millionLocation:
AlbanyDescription: The project will provide dedicated and
affordable student accommodation facilities to encourage more
international and domestic students to attend tertiary and
vocational institutions in the Great Southern. Stage Two, supported
by $11 million in Royalties for Regions funding, will see the
construction of a 40-bed accommodation facility at the old Albany
Primary School site in Serpentine Road. Stage One involved the
construction of 20 units opposite the UWA Albany Centre in the
Norman House precinct and was completed in December 2017.
Katanning’s All Ages Playground has been revamped.
New facilities at the former Albany Primary School site in
Serpentine Road will host students in affordable accommodation.
Description: The project has two key elements: the Welcome
Pre-cinct and Town Centre improvements (redevelopment of the All
Ages Playground and Lions Park, visitor servicing and wayfinding)
and the Piesse Lake Development (creation of a botanic garden and
recrea-tion area, medium density residential land development
adjacent to the Piesse Lake, relocation of the Bowling Club).
Project funding includes $12.7 million from Royalties for

Middleton Beach Foreshore Revitalisation

AlbanyDescription: The project creates improved event space and
beach experiences, pedestrian networks, environmental
rehabilitation and foreshore protection at Middleton Beach. The $9
million project is supported with State Government funding of $2.5
million through LandCorp, $4.5 million from the Australian
Government and $2 million from the City of Albany.Status: Stage one
commenced in November 2019 and included construction of a seawall,
retaining wall, concrete wave reflector and upgrades to storm water
drainage. The second stage is now under way and involves the design
and implementation of improved landscape and public amenities such
as revised facilities, service infrastructure and access. Part of
stage two is the development of a boardwalk and
Albany’s Middleton Beach will have better facilities for users
and for events.
Description: The redevelopment will include the construction of
a new administration building, new classrooms and refurbishment of
a cluster of classrooms built in the 1970s. Works will be
undertaken in stages to ensure school operations and students’
learning is not disrupted while construction is under way. Once
completed, the school will provide permanent capacity for 648
students and will have space to increase this to 700 if
required.Status: Forward works (earthworks and oval) commenced July
2020. Construction expected to be completed in time for the 2022
