Our community is thriving and as active as ever with cookouts, the pool, and our monthly Community Events. I just wanted to remind everyone that you can reserve the Community Center for your own get together. Many residents have already taken advantage of this opportunity and have used it for birthday parties, baby showers, and retirements. I look forward to seeing even more parties and events held here. I would like to take a moment to say thank you to everyone for your participation in our activities and events, and for the wonderful amount of feedback received from our CEL surveys. With your help, we will continue to improve our service to you and we strive to give you and your family the best housing experience possible. The temperature is still climbing, and I would like to give everyone a friendly reminder to keep backyards mowed, which will help prevent snakes and other creatures from taking over our neighborhood. School is also right around the corner, so please keep an eye out for school buses and the children who will be getting on and off twice daily. Remember to drive the speed limit to help keep everyone safe. KEEPING WILDLIFE OUTWith the heat, we will see an increase in snakes, bugs, and other creepy-crawlies around base. The best way to keep your home and family safe is to maintain a cleaned and trimmed backyard.

Mowing and weed-eating, as well as keeping the yard clear of standing water sources and clutter will help prevent mosquitos, snakes, and spiders from taking over.

If you find any wildlife that needs to be removed, we ask that you please contact the Game Warden at 229 639-5188 or call PMO Non-Emergency at 229 639-5181 after hours. Please also inform us at the office if need be 229 888-6662.

Question: According to Georgia legend, there is a tree that legally owns itself and all land within 8 feet of its base. Who deeded the tree ownership to itself and what city is it located in?

Please e-mail your answer to [email protected]. The first person who answers the question correctly will receive a gift card.

Fewer loads reduce energy and water use.Maintain Your Clothes DryerMake sure your dryer’s outside vent is clear and clean the lint filter after every load. When shopping for a new dryer look for one with a moisture sensor that automatically shuts off when clothes are dry.

AUGUST: Energy Saving Tips - Free and Low Cost Recommendations

• Getting a new computer or other electronics for school? Make sure to purchase energy efficient models.• Use reusable lunch bags for children to take their lunch in. Pack healthy fruits and vegetables instead of prepackaged snacks and a reusable water bottle or thermos for them to take their drinks in instead of prepackaged drinks.• Academic paper use generates mountains of waste—28 pounds per year for each student, teacher and staff member in one New York City school alone. Choose processed chlorine free (PCF) paper, avoiding releases of dioxin and mercury in the bleaching process, and the highest percentages of recycled post-consumer waste (PCW) available. • Choosing refillable pens and pencils will not only save on waste, but will also save your wallet!• Use rechargeable batteries for calculators instead of buying new ones every time they die.• If clothes still fit, encourage children to wear the old pieces and just mix in a few new pieces instead of buying all new clothes. If they no longer fit, donate them to charity where someone will be able to use them.• Cover school books in paper instead of plastic. Not only will it protect children’s books, it will be environmentally friendly and they can decorate it to fit their own personal style.• As always, set a good example for your children by reducing, reusing, and recycling! It will make a difference!• Speak with school administrators about planting a tree on school grounds each September or flowers can be planted by children at a later date.
