BIRMINGHAM. Ala.. August 20. Indications that the State Republican Convention, meeting here Thursday, faces a fight over the question of Whether a ticket should be nominated for the November general election grew last night as conflicting opinions on the advisability of such action were ex- pressed by party leaders. One faction of the party was said to be In favor of throwing the Re- publican support to the independent ticket headed by Senator J. Thomas Heflin, candidate for re-election, and Hugh A. Locke, Birmingham, a guberna- torial candidate, while other leaders consider the coming election to be the best chance in years to put Republicans in high State office. Judge L. H. Reynolds, a political leader of Chilton County, Republican stronghold, said that at the request of the County Committee he would place before the convention a proposal to enter a full ticket In the general election. “The party has the best chance it has ever had to win a State election in Alabama,” Judge Reynolds said. “I am against throwing the party’s sup- port to any other candidate.” A prominent party Header of Birming- ham, who, however, did not wish to be quoted directly, said he wss not In favor of entering a State ticket, and that he believed the convention would go on record against such action. At Mobile J. C. Inc., Charlotte, N. C. By tbe Associated Press. NEW YORK. August 20— Federal Judge Coleman yesterday appointed the Irving Trust Co. and Samuel A. Berger equity receivers for the People's Stores, Inc., of Charlotte, N. C., and Charles Asking of Mount Vernon, N. Y„ trad- ing as People’s Askin's and Joseph Galin's. The action was tatcen after Burney O. Jackson of Arlington, N. J., an ac- countant, filed a petition based upon an alleged unpaid claim for $3,850. Assets were estimated at $785,000, liabilities being unlisted. The defendants conducted an install- ment business. Selling clothing In 35 stores In New York, Pennsylvania, New Hampshire, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Ohio, Illinois, In- diana, Kentucky. Michigan, lowa and the District of Columbia. The plaintiff said that, given time, the defendants would be able-to meet all obligations. Lists Concrete Cellars. BUCHAREST W.—Gen. RICHMOND, Va., August 20.—Re- moval of the office directing malaria control work in the United States from Richmond to Washington, effective September 3, was announced last night by Dr. Ennion G. Williams, State health 8 commLssioner. Dr. L, L. Williams, jr., in charge of the office since it was removed here from Memphis, Tenn.. in 1927, will con- tinue in his capacity of medical of- ficer in charge of malaria investigations for the United States Public Health Service. The State health commissioner as- signed as one of the reasons for the removal the fact that Malaria Is now practically non-existent in Virginia. Divorce Granted Moot*. RENO, Nev., August 20 Wi. —John Joseph Moot*, former Bucknell Univer- sity student, whose petitoin alleged his marriage brought him expulsion from college and an order to leave home, was granted a divorce yesterday from Betty P. Indications that the State Republican

for the November general election grewlast night as conflicting opinions on theadvisability of such action were ex-pressed by party leaders.

One faction of the party was saidto be In favor of throwing the Re-publican support to the independentticket headed by Senator J. ThomasHeflin, candidate for re-election, andHugh A. Locke, Birmingham, a guberna-torial candidate, while other leadersconsider the coming election to be thebest chance in years to put Republicansin high State office.

Judge L. H. Reynolds, a politicalleader of Chilton County, Republicanstronghold, said that at the requestof the County Committee he wouldplace before the convention a proposalto enter a full ticket In the generalelection.
