By Brenda Ruggiero CEG CORRESPONDENT Ground was recently broken for the latest phase of construction of the final segment of the Anniston Eastern Bypass (state route 192) in Calhoun County, Ala. The ceremo- ny was led by Gov. Bob Riley, U.S. Rep. Mike Rogers, and Transportation Director Joe McInnes on Oct. 13. The event signaled the begin- ning of construction on the $29.4 million federal stimulus project on the 8-mi. (12.8 km), four-lane highway that runs through Ft. McClellan between I-20 and U.S. 431. The road will bypass Anniston on the east side of town from I-20 to the north side of Anniston. This phase of the project will involve the construction of the grade, drainage and bridges, as well as the partial base and pave on the Anniston Eastern Bypass (SR 192) from south of Lake Yahou to SR 1 (U.S. 431) at Saks. The length of the phase will cover 2.8 mi. (4.5 km). The contract was awarded to L & T Construction Inc., Hernando, Miss., which is owned by Levi Harris. Work is under the direction of Mark Waycaster. According to Rebecca L. White of the Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT), this par- ticular project represents an invest- ment of $29.4 million dollars of Federal Stimulus Funds on top of the $97 million already spent on Final Segment of Anniston Eastern Bypass Under Way ALABAMA STATE SUPPLEMENT Your Alabama Connection • Rich Olivier, Atlanta, GA • 1-800-409-1479 December 16 2009 Vol. XXII • No. 25 “The Nation’s Best Read Construction Newspaper… Founded in 1957.” Mobile Dothan Auburn Anniston Gadsden Huntsville Florence Decatur Birmingham Bessemer Tuscaloosa Selma Montgomery Phenix City 65 65 65 65 10 85 20 20 59 59 565 2 20 72 31 231 43 78 5 72 431 280 82 231 31 43 80 82 231 84 84 52 431 331 45 98 84 82 Gov.
