By Alan Talbott, President The 2011, next generation XJ sedan will be officially unveiled July 9 th . It will have an XF- ish front end with a “sloping greenhouse” posture that is a long way from the current upright version. Code named X351 the new car will have direct injection V-8’s (which we test drove at the Atlanta Motor Speedway last month) with horsepower ratings starting at 380. The all aluminum chassis will continue giving it the qualities to lead the class in terms of rigidity, lightness and strength. Spy photos seen recently indicate it will also be offered in the long wheelbase version as well. The most electric news, however about the new sedan is that it will indeed be electrified. Jaguar will offer a plug in version of its new sedan within a year of the debut in 2011. It will offer a pure-electric range of 30 miles supported by a small gas generator for longer trips. It is estimated that the average American driver travels less than 25 miles per day so given that stat the 30 mile range would be adequate. They must never have been to Atlanta! (Click on the following link for a teaser!) 2011 Jaguar I didn’t realize it but Jaguar and Land Rover have not been sold in India. Even though Tata has owned them for a year they announced just days ago that they will begin selling in the country with the first dealer opening in June. This alone should be a shot in the arm to sales and therefore production in the UK. No surprise that Tata will be the official importer as well. We had two excellent events this month with the King Tut exhibit April 25 th being the first and perhaps the best. Although tickets were pricy the pieces on display were astounding and worth the fee. Having discovered the Tut tomb intact in the nearly 1900’s made it possible to view, 70 years later, much of the life lead by the Pharaohs with opulence to the max. We viewed a sarcophagus for a cat that was solid stone with solid stone cover and chiseled writings all over. Must have taken six months to do and that cat must have smelled bad. We viewed a jaguar head mold with precious stones for eyes made out solid gold. What a great grill badge for a wagon back then. Saw a belt buckle made out of thousands of pieces of small cylindrical stones in about a 3” by 4” size. That must have weighed three pounds. Don’t know how they carried all that around. I sure others in our group could speak more eloquently on the exhibit pieces but those stuck out for me. After the exhibit we attended a very well made movie on the pyramids and tombs giving great insight into people that lived thousands of years ago. Great show! After the exhibit our group had lunch at O’Terrill’s Sports Bar just up from the Civic Center. Lew George kindly had the restaurant open early for us again this year. We had good food and good conversation and a lot of laughs. A most enjoyable day! Thanks to Kim Daly and Lew for making the arrangements. Our second event was the Walter Mitty Races at Road Atlanta this past weekend. Jaguar was the featured marque and they showed up in force. There were some stunning cars from all over the east Coast and beyond. You can see
