For our project, we wanted to see if it was possible to create a semi truck with an electric engine. Our team,

Ecovision, consisted of Aja, Damen, Daphne and Darci. This is to show you what we did, and how we did it.

OPENING

Think about a design for your car and decide whether to use

aluminum or wood as the car body.

STEP ONE

Page 4: Aja George: Carmicheal Middle School Damen Solso : Carmicheal Middle School

Pick a piece of wood & lightly

mark where you’re going to cut it.

STEP TWO

Page 5: Aja George: Carmicheal Middle School Damen Solso : Carmicheal Middle School

Using the radial arm saw, cut out along the line on the wood. Make

sure to turn on the dust collector

before using the saw, and wear

safety goggles.

STEP THREE

Page 6: Aja George: Carmicheal Middle School Damen Solso : Carmicheal Middle School

Grab a piece of scrap metal and mark four pieces that you will later cut out to use for

axel holders.

STEP FOUR

Page 7: Aja George: Carmicheal Middle School Damen Solso : Carmicheal Middle School

Using the band saw, cut out the four pieces of metal. Before using it, turn on the dust

collector and wear safety goggles.

STEP FIVE

Page 8: Aja George: Carmicheal Middle School Damen Solso : Carmicheal Middle School

Using the center punch, punch each

piece twice, one close to the top,

the other close to the bottom. You want them to be even, so measure

before hand.

STEP SIX

Page 9: Aja George: Carmicheal Middle School Damen Solso : Carmicheal Middle School

Grip the pieces one by one into the vice grip.

With the electric drill, make holes

where the center punch

marks are. Repeat for all of

the pieces.

STEP SEVEN

Page 10: Aja George: Carmicheal Middle School Damen Solso : Carmicheal Middle School

Keep the pieces gripped in, using the hammer, bend them to get a 90 degree angle.

STEP EIGHT

Page 11: Aja George: Carmicheal Middle School Damen Solso : Carmicheal Middle School

Collect four screws from the screw

boxes, they should be pretty small.

STEP NINE

Page 12: Aja George: Carmicheal Middle School Damen Solso : Carmicheal Middle School

Using a screwdriver,

attach the little metal pieces to the wood car

body. Make sure to mark where you’re going to put them first,

you want them to be even.

STEP TEN

Page 13: Aja George: Carmicheal Middle School Damen Solso : Carmicheal Middle School

Using a hack saw, cut out two copper rod pieces about 5

inches across.

STEP ELEVEN

Page 14: Aja George: Carmicheal Middle School Damen Solso : Carmicheal Middle School

Get a pack of four wheels. Either big or

small will work.

STEP TWELVE

Page 15: Aja George: Carmicheal Middle School Damen Solso : Carmicheal Middle School

Hammer one wheel onto one side of

the rod. Insert the rod into the back 2 axel holders. Once

you have that, hammer on the

other wheel.

STEP THIRTEEN

Page 16: Aja George: Carmicheal Middle School Damen Solso : Carmicheal Middle School

Put the motor together using the

instructions.

STEP FOURTEEN

Page 17: Aja George: Carmicheal Middle School Damen Solso : Carmicheal Middle School

Using the rod coming with the

motor, repeat step thirteen for the

front.

STEP FIFTEEN

Page 18: Aja George: Carmicheal Middle School Damen Solso : Carmicheal Middle School

Solder the battery pack wires to the motor. And you’re done! (with the

car at least)

After testing, we concluded that it would be possible to make a semi truck with an electric engine. It probably

wouldn’t be as efficient as a diesel semi truck, but it would work. Also, we learned our car could hold about 80 grams

of weight at the most.
