Company Profile

Logan Airport is located in Boston, Massachusetts. It is an international airport that

facilitates flight arrivals and departures to destinations all over the world. There are 38 different

airlines that use Logan airport.

The common process for getting onto a plane at Logan consists of…First, the passenger

must book their flight and show up on time. The next step is to check in, go through security, and

enter the terminal. Once inside the terminal, passengers are not allowed to leave or they will not

be able to board their flight.

The Terminal at Logan is on par with most of the Airports in the United States. On a

normal day, when there are not delays or cancellations, everything goes smooth and waiting in

the terminal is not a problem. But with snow and poor weather, passengers can be forced to wait

(sometimes for hours or even days) to get on the next flight. With these long delays and such,

they are still not allowed to leave the terminal. There are no beds for passengers to sleep in if this

happens. They are forced to either stay awake or try to sleep on the floor or uncomfortable chair.

The business need for the airport is to find ways to accommodate for passenger fatigue.

Our prospective solution is to implement the sleep-box technology. Which will be described in

more depth on our business need page.

BUSINESS NEED

• Context

Boston Logan International Airport is New England’s largest transportation center and

generates $7 billion in economic activity each year. It is a city within a city on a 1,700 acre

footprint of land. The airport has a fire department, a police department, a power plant, two

hotels, a non-denominational chapel and 27 acres of landscaping along the roadways and

terminals.

Logan Airport has four passenger terminals, A, B, C and E, each with its own ticketing,

baggage claim, and ground transportation facilities. The terminals are connected to the central

parking garage by a walkway system. In all, there are 94 gates with contact jet bridges and nine

regional jet gates at the airport and more than 40 airlines fly nonstop to more than 100 domestic

and international destinations. For more info www.massport.com

Agenda

Our Agenda: Negotiate best price with the vendor.

Vendor Agenda: sell their product, maximize revenue, and popularize their product. Use Logan

Airport is an example for future reference to their product.

Leverage:

Our Leverage: International Visibility to the common passenger, Competition information,

Their Leverage: Choice of cost of the product.

Objective:

choice.

Page 19: AIRPORT BEDBOX PROJECT - WordPress.com on individual and team work 6 Cost Management Plan Microsoft Excel would be used. This would be used to input all data that is involved with

18

Strategy:

Since Sleep Box is the only product to fully meet our business need. We must “play” with them

to achieve the best financial package

Potential Tactics:

We will make Sleep Box think that we are leaning towards another vendor, or make them think

they might have an inferior product than their competition. We must always still show interest and make

it look like a “close call”. All of this will be used in order to manipulate the vendor to lower their prices to

the level that we would like them to be.

Negotiation Team and Roles:

Purchasing Lead (Jon Wytenus): Aggressive negotiations. Try to get the best deal out of the

vendor that is possible. Shoe the vendor no mercy in negotiations.

Project Manager (Hassan Abualola): Act as voice of reason. Strive for continued

communications, to elongate negotiations between us and the vendor.

Business Lead (Wes Welker): Communicate issues of potential future interest between the two

organizations.

Legal (Johnny Cochran) : Negotiate with vendor legal staff and advise negotiation team

Implementation Strategy

First, we are to work with Sleep Box to have them custom design some features to suit

our exact business needs. Once developed and tested thoroughly it would be a short two weeks

of physical implementation into Logan Airport terminal and onto the Airports media network.

Operation Strategy

Once fully implemented, teams will work with the products with technologies that will be

implemented in the future, essentially making the product as fully compatible as possible with

anything in the computer world such as cell phones, laptops, etc.

Any problems happen with the program Airport bed box will be took up on an individual

basis and be addressed by the user or by a more well-informed group member. Assessments of

the program will be conducted at meetings to determine if the program is working effectively.

The program should be used for a year and after the year is over it will be determined whether or

not to continue using this vendor’s solution.

During this there will be 24/7 phone support offered by the vendor along with support

to come in and fix the systems for you. This is how the systems are to be supported to maximize

the products efficiency.

Once all is implemented and put into use, the acquisition project has then been

completed.
