The Basics of MIST
• What: – Public Law 107-314 of the FY03 Defense Authorization Act
Directed the DOD and VA to implement a Heath Care Incentive Fund
– The VA (as Lead Agent) has proposed a joint agency, satellite based, educational channel using current medical content from the CDC, VA, DOD Services, and other providers
– Satellite-based medical channel for DOD provides professional education & training –intending to offer six to eight hours a day, live & prerecorded
The Basics of MIST• Why
– Increasing need to share medical information and training—rapidly and universally—using existing infrastructures
– Permits exchange of medical training and information– CME/CEU credits for selected programs – Offers access to very large segment of DOD population
thanks to GETN – Cost-effective—centrally funded, no local costs– Allows for rapid, cost-effective deployment of additional
infrastructure where needed• When & Where:
– Programs are listed in catalog under “MIST” and also on the daily schedule
