Mist eliminators are used on board ships, yachts and offshore modules to prevent droplets enetering the system downstream. Mist eliminators are available in all variants and dimensions.
The inlet grills of many ventilation systems on board ships are too small or placed close to the water, causing water droplets to be drawn in by the fans and damage to the fans and the machinery downstream. Mist eliminator separate, collect and drain the airborne water droplets from the entering air.
Working principleThe air flow with water droplets approaches the mist eliminator and enters the different flow channels (1) formed between two mist eliminator profiles (2). Because of inertia forces, water droplets impinge on the profiles and are stopped in the first barrier (3) to form a liquid film. Because of gravity forces, the water film is drained to the bottom of each mist eliminator module. Smaller water droplets that do not impinge on the first part of the profiles are accelerated because of a narrower flow channel between two profiles at the barrier. The accelerated water droplets impinge on the latter part of the profiles (4) and are stopped in the second barrier (5). Special means are incorporated in the profiles to prevent water from re-entrainment.
