Kamui, the creator god, made the Earth as a vast ocean resting

In the Begînnîngon the back of a giant trout. To creat the tides, the massive

f sh sucks in the water and spits it out again, and as the f sh

moves the earth quakes .

After Kamui looked down at the empty, water world, he assigned a water wagtail with a mission. The

young bird was overwhelmed with the state of the world, so it fluttered its wings to stir up the water and

trampled the sand with his tail to make dry land.

Jealous of the world Kamui created,

the devil awoke one morning

to consume the sun from the

morning sky.

Kamui became wise to the devil’s plans and sent a mischevious crow to fl y down the devil’s throat.

The crow’s courage become legendary, and instilled a sense of bravery in its lineage.

Kamui sent Aioina, a divine

man, to teach the the Ainu

people how to hunt and cook.

But Aioina acquired a horrible

smell from the Ainu, and the gods

refused to let him back into the

heavens without shedding his clothes.

Then...

Aioina returned to earth, where he shed his clothing. As he

returned tothe heavens, his clothes morphed into animals.

Type designer, Claude Garamond was commitioned to create a legible

font for large bodies of text around 1540. The original design was

further manipulated by Jean Jannson.

display at the Plantin-Moretus Museum in Belgum.
