WHAT IS CULTURAL DIFFUSION?

IS THE EXCHANGE OF IDEAS AND CULTURE BETWEEN TWO DIFFERENT CULTURAL GROUPS.

How does Cultural Diffusion work?

Cultural traits (dress, language, religion,music etc...) start in one region and spread outward.


Cultural diffusion helps explain how cultural traits expands from one region to another.







! Cultural Assimilation- taking elements of a culture and making it your own (absorbing into a new culture)


How did cultural diffusion occur in Ancient Mesopotamia?

- TRADING- Mesopotamians traded with near by cities for goods. Interactions between different groups followed.

- Warfare- When Babylon took over Sumerian city-states they assimilated to Sumerian achievements.



How did cultural diffusion occur in Ancient Egypt? - TRADING- Egypt would trade with nearby people for goods they did not possess. ( steel, gold, and leather)

-Warfare- Kushites, African civilization, were taken over by Egyptians. When they were free again, adopted Egyptian culture.
