Taking up a cultural internship, or Global Community Development Programme, is the
most intense learning experience that AIESEC offers and links together our global
network. Each year we provide over 60,000 AIESEC members the challenging
opportunity to live and work in a foreign country in areas of Community Development.
To increase youth impact in the world, we see that society needs leaders who are
entrepreneurial, culturally sensitive, and socially responsible and take an active part in
their own learning. To gain a holistic experience AIESEC offers you the opportunity to
take on a leadership role before or after your Global Community Development
Programme. Learn how to lead a team, manage large projects and run a local or
national organization along with people from all over the world!
One of the best ways to develop what it takes to be a leader is to take up one of 20,000
leadership roles involved in running AIESEC at local, national, regional and global
scale, as well as trainings in soft skills and functional areas in over 470 conferences
and thousands of activities each year.

PROGRAMME PROCESS
1. Contact the AIESEC Committee To go on Global Community Development Programme you have to get in contact with
the AIESEC Committee In their University (AIESEC exists in Assumption University,
Thammasat University, Chulalongkorn University, and Bangkok University) to get the
application form.
And if they/you are a student outside those universities / there's no AIESEC In your
university, you can contact [email protected] or register yourself in our online
registration in http://bit.ly/AIESECCUXchange2013 Once you got the application
form, you have to fill it and submit it.
2. Selection and Application
After joining and understanding AIESEC, you can enter a review process to assess
your experiences and motivation for going on an AIESEC exchange. This is a physical
process consisting of Application/Documents and interview selection. The selection
process aims to ensure that everyone participating in an AIESEC exchange is suitable
and will have a positive experience while on exchange. It is comprised of at least 1
stage: Selection Review Board - a board that will interview you to assess your
suitability to become an exchange participant in several areas. The interview will be
held in English and they have to pay for the Registration Fee (total 500 Baht).
3. Sign Contract, Preparation and AIESEC Involvement
Once you passed the interview selection, you have to sign the contract and you have
to pay 10.000 Baht in the sign contract. Once you already signed the contract, they
officially become the AIESEC Member. This step happens before leaving for your
exchange experience and actually starts before you have matched yourself to a
suitable project. It consists of areas such as:
Logistics preparation - Ensuring that you are physically prepared to work in another
country. Professional / Community Development Involvement - To help you gain an
understanding of issues facing the world and your own community. Cultural and Direct Country preparation - Preparation on the country you will be
going to and also how to cope with the pressures of living in a foreign culture. AIESEC preparation - Providing you with knowledge about the exchange
programme and the roles of various entities.
The preparation step is critically important to ensure that you are ready to make the
most out of your experience in a personal and professional sense. We also see it as
an important part in ensuring that the people participating in the exchange programme
understand their responsibilities and the role that they play in fulfilling AIESEC's vision.
4. Matching / Find the suitable project
By this stage you have been through the selection process and have become an
official AIESEC exchange participant (EP). Now you are able to start being matched
to a suitable internship. You will be assisted to find the suitable project/internship
opportunities. The more flexible you are in terms of geographical preferences the
better.
5. Global Community Development Programme Experience
The most fulfilling step from here is experiencing the actual GCDP itself. AIESEC will
provide you with much more information on what to expect during your internship
experience and what kind of involvement you can have with AIESEC and the local
environment while you are on your exchange experience in a new country. AIESEC
members in your host chapter provide support in receiving you, getting setup while
providing opportunities for cultural and social activities.
6. Re-Integration
AIESEC supports you in making the readjustment process when you return home. We
hope that your experience opens up a world of opportunities to create a better society
for us all. Also, if you're interested to continue your AIESEC career, you can try the
leadership opportunities available for you in your country.
PROGRAMME TESTIMONIAL
Global Community Development Programme Returnee My exchange with AIESEC brought me to the city of Bandung in West Java where I
met many different, interesting and inspiring people whether in Rumah Cemara and in
AIESEC. My coming here has been very eye opening and definitely ―an unforgettable
and life changing experience‖—just as AIESEC had promised.
With my line of work, I’ve come to understand another facet of life very misunderstood
from the general public—me included: the lives of injecting drug users and people
living with HIV, all of whom are stigmatized and discriminated
against due to their social status. I’ve come to discover that these are actually very
nice and respectable people, even more inspiring than many ―normal people‖. My
time with Rumah Cemara has certainly opened a window into a different world in which
I hope to explore deeper and develop further in my future career.

After coming back to Thailand,
I realized that I learnt a lot from the
project that I joined. For example, I
experienced teaching kids English,
managing classes on my own and
dealing with Polish children. I really
enjoyed my work because of my colleagues. Besides, the most worthy thing that I got from this project
was FRIENDSHIP!
From April until June 2011 I was an exchange participant for a project called ―World
Kindergarten‖ of AIESEC Wroclaw LC UE. During this internship I got such
experiences which I could never ever forget. I learnt to be a more open-minded person
because I had to work with foreigners who have totally different cultural background
from me. Not only being more open-minded did I change myself, but also I got cross-
cultural understanding.
What is cross-cultural understanding? For me it means that to know how to react
properly to foreigners, and you definitely need to know what you can or you cannot do
or say. I did not make friends with only local people, but also people from all over the
world such as Brazilian, Singaporean, Filipino, Chinese, Taiwanese (also Thai) etc.
The most incredible thing is friendship will never die! ―The world is a book and those who do not travel read only a page.‖ – St. Augustine.
For those who have never been abroad before, you will see the other side of the world,
and AIESEC is here to offer us such a great opportunity to discover the world. It’s worth it!!

This project is one of the greatest
projects that I have ever participated.
There are many factors that made this
project as one of my memorable and
worthwhile moment in my life. Firstly, it is
the staffs or the AIESECers in Poland.
They sacrificed and spent a lot of their
times with all the interns which are very
impressive. Every day, at least 2 of the AIESECers will come and visit us in the apartment. During the time of visiting, we have
exchanged so many stuffs such as culture, life, funny stuff and etc. Also, sometimes,
we went out together, having fun and exploring the city. I learnt a lot of their culture
through these kinds of activities. Apart from the AIESECers, another factor that is so
worthwhile to me is the teaching activity. I could see my own development of
presenting and communicating skills, day by day. Part of my development has to thank
to all of my colleagues or interns because by watching them presented, I learnt and
adapted their way of teaching the kids to my own presentation. Moreover, I have to
say that the level of my English skill is lower than most of the interns but that is not the
problem or obstacle of my staying or teaching there. Fortunately, my colleagues are
so nice that they helped and explained me some of the words that I couldn’t
understand. I found out that this is something very interesting and useful for me and
those who really want to improve their English skill.
Apart from my developments, it’s the Polish kids that made me enjoying more and
even more with this project. They are such good kids and behaving very well in the
class. Also, the presentation of our country seems to be interested by them as at the
end of each topic, they asked a lot of question based on our country. Lastly, interns
coming from multiple countries gave me some difficult time of living together with them
but after for a while, me and the rest of the interns figure out the way to live with each
other peacefully. However, the difficulty of living is not a big deal if comparing to what
I learn from this project. I’m glad that I have chosen this project
and I certainly got so many worthwhile and good experiences, especially the friendship
among all the interns and the Polish AIESECers. And also I have to thank to Mandy
who is an AIESECer from Assumption University of Thailand because she helped me
a lot in order for me to apply for this project.

One of the most
memorable
summers of my life
is having an
internship with
AIESEC in Taiwan.
To promote tourism
in Taiwan is the
main purpose of
my project. My
partners were from Poland, Austria, Switzerland and Vietnam. We worked. We played. We had fun
together. We are completely different but we were the perfect working partners, perfect
friends ever.
