As mentioned in the first video, the three target areas based on our assessment were in agriculture, sanitation and healthcare. Village12 is launching four projects to address the problem in each of these areas:

1) Community cleanup and public park installation.

2) Agriculture production.

3) Latrines and composting system.

4) Medical clinic and healthcare courses.

Risk factor

• The Central Bank, which is the government, owns the land of the bateys. The history between Haitians and Dominicans is violent and we have been told the Central Bank has discriminated against the Haitians before. However, despite these rough pasts, we have been in close communication with Central Bank representatives and other community leaders. They told us they are pleased with our progress so far.

• Mitigation Steps: If a situation does arise, we are prepared to peacefully defend people’s rights to a clean, livable environment.
