With recycling based on sorting by grade, America is drowning

in plastic waste.

• US consumers generate 32 million+ tons of plastic waste annually (12-14% of MSW).

• Less than 9% of consumer waste plastic is recycled (only 2.8 million tons in 2012).

• Many more millions of tons of plastic are used in agricultural, automotive and other commercial activities. Less than 3% of this material is recycled.
