Nomura, Mansaku Kyogen performer Important Intangible Cultural Property of Japan (Living National Treasure) Mr. Nomura was born in Tokyo in 1931. He studied under his late grandfather, the first Mansai Nomura, and his late father, the 6th Manzou Nomura. His first stage appearance was at age 3. He graduated from the Faculty of Letters at Waseda University. He curently presides over the Mansaku Society. After more than 80 years of performing experience, Mr. Nomura strives to spread Kyogen within Japan and abroad, taking posts as a visiting professor at the University of Hawaii and the University of Washington. In addition to receiving the grand prize at an arts festival for his performance of the family’s secret Kyogen program “Tsurigitsune”, he has received many awards throughout his career, including the Kinokuniya Theater Award, the Japan Academy of the Arts Award, the Medal with Purple Ribbon, the Shoyo Tsubouchi Grand Prize, The Asahi Award, and the Shin Hasegawa Award. He was named an Artistic Contributor by Waseda University in 2002, an Honorary Citizen of Nerima in 2008, and received the

Order of the Rising Sun (4th class) in 2012. He has tried his skills as a Kyogen master in other works, such as “Pierrot Lunaire” and “Shigosen no Matsuri”, and he has helped build the foundation of Kyogen’s prosperity today. He is also well established as a mentor of the next generation. His written works include “Taro Kaja o Ikiru” (Hakusui U Books) and “Nomura Mansaku no Maki: Kyogen Sannin Sanyo” (Iwanami Shoten Publishers). He became Director Emeritus of the Nerima City Culture Center in 2011.
Yoro, Takeshi MD, Professor Emeritus, University of Tokyo Born in Kamakura, Kanagawa prefecture in 1937, Dr. Takeshi Yoro graduated from University of Tokyo’s medical school in 1962. He underwent a 1-year internship and thereafter entered an anatomy laboratory, where he specialized in anatomy. In 1967, he received a Doctor of Medicine degree from University of Tokyo, and in 1981, he became a tenured professor in the university’s department of medicine. He also served as Director of the University of Tokyo Museum and as Chairman of the Board of the University of Tokyo Press. In 1995 he retired from University of Tokyo, but he was later appointed Professor Emeritus of the University in 1998. In 1996, Dr. Yoro became a tenured professor at Kitasato University’s Graduate School of Medicine and Human Science, and he retired 7 years later in 2003. Dr. Yoro received the Suntory Gakugei Award in 1989 for “Looking at the Body” (Tsukuma Shobo) and the Mainichi Culture Award in 2003 for “The Idiocy Barrier” (Shinchosha). He became Director of Kyoto International Manga Museum in 2006.

Vita-More, Natasha PhD, Professor, University of Advancing Technology Chairman, Humanity+ Fellow, Institute for Ethics & Emerging Technologies Dr. Natasha Vita-More has been called an “early adapter of revolutionary changes” by Wired magazine and a “role model for superlongevity” by the Village Voice. Natasha is an expert in the field of the emerging technology of human enhancement. Her research combines technology and social narrative, which scholarship covers the social and ethical issues of human futures, including radical life extension, morphological freedom, and identity diversity. Her prototype "Primo Posthuman" (1997) whole body prosthetics unmasks the probable outcomes of biotech’s regenerative media, nanorobotics, and artificial general intelligence. Her further investigation of future of humans includes “Platform Diverse Body” (2012) and “Substrate Autonomous Persons” (2012) offer insights into how technological innovation enhances human physiology and diversifies personal identity. Her current research is studying memory after vitrification and revival of C. elegans. Natasha is co-editor and contributing author of the Transhumanist Reader: Classical and Contemporary Essays on the Science, Technology, and Philosophy of the Future Human. Nagato, Yusuke Ph.D. Candidate, Faculty of Letters, Keio University Special Researcher, Japan Society for the Promotion of Science Born in 1987, Yusuke Nagato received a Master’s degree from Keio University in 2009. His specialty is modern ethics and philosophy of history, and he is currently conducting research on the meaning and value of happiness and life, with an eye on historical discussions reaching back to ancient times. He is writing his Ph.D. dissertation on the issue of the unity and value of life. His practical fields of interest include issues of historical awareness and ethics of warfare. Halamka, John MD, MS, Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School Chief Information Officer of Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center Chairman of the New England Healthcare Exchange Network (NEHEN) co-Chair of the national HIT Standards Committee co-Chair of the Massachusetts HIT Advisory Committee Emergency Physician. As Chief Information Officer of Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, he is responsible for all clinical, financial, administrative and academic information technology serving 3,000 doctors, 14,000 employees and two million patients. As Chairman of NEHEN he oversees clinical and administrative data exchange in Eastern Massachusetts. As co-Chair of the HIT Standards Committee he facilitates the process of electronic standards harmonization among stakeholders nationwide. As co-Chair of the Massachusetts HIT Advisory Committee, he engages the stakeholders of the Commonwealth to guide the development of a statewide health information exchange.
Addi, Gretchen Senior Partner, IDEO Gretchen Addi is an Senior Partner and currently a business lead in the IDEO Bay Area as well as providing mentorship and guidance to the Design Research discipline. She is passionate about the power of empathy and design, and the people who make it happen as well as the author of an internal point of view to better understand the needs of the aging population. Since joining IDEO in 2000, Gretchen has participated in such diverse projects as future work environment scenarios; an exploration into the future of healthcare through the patient and family experience; product and service concepts for retirement planning and aging in place; and international interviews and observations around automotive, health and home care products. Muto, Shinsuke Chairman, Tetsuyu Institute Medical Corporation Chairman, Leading Aging Society Forum MD, Cardiovascular specialist, USCPA, and MBA Dr. Muto graduated from the Department of Medicine at the University of Tokyo in 1996 and earned his Ph.D. from the Graduate School of Medicine at the University of Tokyo in 2002. He has worked in cardiovascular internal medicine, emergency medicine, and as a court physician at the Imperial Household Agency. Thereafter, he worked at McKinsey & Company, and he opened You Home Clinic, a clinic specializing in home care, in Bunkyo-ward, Tokyo in January 2010. Dr. Muto opened another home care clinic in September 2011 in Ishinomaki-city, Miyagi Prefecture. He currently serves as a member of the taskforce on healthcare IT at the Cabinet Secretariat IT Strategy Headquarters, a member of the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare panel on palliative care promotion, and a member of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications study group on ICT application in a super-aging society.
Arnaud, Jérôme President, Silver Valley in Ile-de-France Chief Executive Officer, Doro AB Mr. Jérôme Arnaud received his Master of Science degree in civil engineering from École Centrale de Paris in 1986. He also graduated from the young manager program at INSEAD in 1994 and participated in the 8th session of IHESI in 1996-7. Mr. Arnaud has been the Chief Executive Officer of Doro AB and Doro SAS since October 2007 and also serves as its Head of Business Development and President. He worked toward the launch of the Research Center of Practical Wisdom, where Professor Ikujiro Nonaka teaches the importance of “phronesis”(prudence), and he directs a leadership development program for Fujitsu Group’s employees. Phronetic leaders are those who pursue the common good by striving to create social and economic value and who balance micromanagement with big picture aspirations for the future. Takebe, Yasue Communication Strategy Consultant, President, Prime Corporation Yasue Takebe is a communication strategy consultant and President of Prime Corporation, Inc. She received a MA in International Relations from Sophia University and a MA in Humanities from the University of Chicago. She is the Director of the Humanities Institute, which she founded with corporate members of the Kansai Association of Corporate Executives and University of Chicago Graduate School faculty members in 1997, and she has organized 40 seminars to discuss social issues through reading Great Books of the Western World.
