This high level meeting will bring together Ministers, senior policy makers and industry leaders to discuss

ways to deliver more sustainable and inclusive tourism growth.

The event will mark the occasion of the 100th meeting of the Tourism Committee and support the future

policy agenda of OECD member and partner countries. It will draw attention to the major advances

made in the implementation of effective tourism policies and programmes, and will facilitate open

discussions about long term objectives for tourism development, and how an effective, forward-

looking, whole-of-government approach can help achieve these objectives.

Room CC12 Tourism is a policy area that involves multiple portfolios, multiple levels of government,

the private sector and civil society. A whole-of-government policy approach requires

government-industry-civil society dialogue and the collaboration and coordination of

actions across relevant policy-areas and levels of government to achieve a common,

forward-looking vision for tourism. To ensure sustainable and inclusive tourism growth,

effective institutions and mechanisms need to be in place to facilitate a multi-actor

system that includes the private sector and civil society.

Room CC12 What are the important trends that will fundamentally change the environment for

tourism in the years to come? How will megatrends - such as demographics,

digitalisation, the global shift to low-carbon, resource-efficiency, and consumer

trends – influence tourism demand and consumption? What are the impacts of

megatrends on tourism supply and infrastructure and how will they affect the future

of jobs in tourism? An in-depth discussion of megatrends, including the consideration

of plausible alternative futures/scenarios, is required to enable policy makers to bring

currently unforeseen and/or emerging issues onto the strategic policy agenda, more

effectively develop potential policy responses, and better enable industry to

capitalise on opportunities and respond to challenges as they arise.

14:00-16:00 Leveraging investment for sustainable and inclusive tourism growth

Room CC12 Rapid tourism growth is opening up new opportunities in many countries, but is also

creating new challenges. Investment may prove critical in managing this growing

demand in a sustainable manner. A lack of quality infrastructure can be an obstacle

to the development of tourism destinations and businesses. Finding the right balance

between tourism supply and demand has become a key policy priority in many

countries (including regionally, by sub-sector, and market segment). Investment can

also be leveraged to promote sustainable and inclusive tourism growth.
