WHAT UA AGENTS DO FOR FUNEver wonder what some of our successful UA Agents do when they’re not in the field selling our great products?
Kerry Sachs of Secure Retirement Solutions, Boca, Fla., enjoys fishing the Atlantic Ocean. Nice wahoo, Kerry! (Kerry pictured right)
You may know Devin Barta as one of our UA Eagles, but to the boys’ basketball team at Coral Springs High School in South Florida, he’s known as ‘coach’.
Devin, a Coral Springs High alumnus, recently coached the team to its first ever state championship. Congratulations to Devin and the team! (Devin pictured left)
AND THE WINNER IS …Congratulations to Agent Edward Catron, winner of a 50” TV!
“After 20 years as an insurance agent, United American is the only company I’ve found that treats both the policyholder and the agent in a fair manner,” Ed says.
You can be a winner, too! If you’re appointed with UA or First UA, attend one of our free webinars and you’ll be automatically entered into our monthly contest. Winners are selected at random.
WORDS OF WISDOM

2 MARCH 2016 It's Time to Build
Every object in a state of uniform motion tends to remain in that state of motion unless an external force is applied to it.
I’ve observed Newton’s first law of motion time and again over the course of my long career, and even experienced it myself.
I’ve seen it in clients who won’t buy without a compelling reason to do so. Perhaps they’re concerned about premium costs or want to protect family finances, but they’re stuck in a state of inertia because they just can’t decide. That’s where you, the Agent, step in. Your guidance becomes the external force that moves them to purchase. A good Agent carries the forward momentum as far as the situation allows.
I’ve also seen Newton’s first law of motion in Agents satisfied to just ‘get by’ until something causes them to re-evaluate their goals and work harder to achieve more. Maybe it’s the birth of a child, or the idea of early retirement, or even the desire to leave a legacy. Whatever the motivation, it primes them for action. That’s where UA and First UA step in. Our tools, training, and support become the external force that can lift a career to new heights.
I can speak firsthand to the success that can be achieved in this great Company when we accept more responsibility. First as an Agent, then Agency owner, Senior Vice President and now President of General Agents for UA and First UA, I’ve always been driven by the challenge to accomplish more — as individuals and as a Company.
Challenge is the external force that drives me into high gear. Maybe it’s the same for you. If so, here’s my challenge to you in one word: Build.
Springtime is the perfect time to think about growth, and the incredible benefits of building your team and perhaps even opening your own Agency. This issue of Summit has some great ideas on the topic from Ryan Sykes, National Director of Sales and Recruiting for UA and First UA. Of course, YOU are the architect of your vision but you may use our blueprint for success as you begin to build. You’ll soon discover that working with others towards a shared goal creates an amazing synergy — an external force that moves everyone forward faster and farther than anyone may have imagined.
Together, we’re stronger. It’s time to build.

WELCOME TO
EARN MORE INCOMEHaving a team means you can potentially make more money with less work. You may be a great salesperson, but no matter how good you are, it would be nearly impossible to out-write 100 Agents. Additionally, multiple Agents submitting business can create consistency in your cash flow.
GAIN FRIENDLY COMPETITION If you’ve got a competitive spirit, adding an Agent to your team can spark a fire under you. You may even find your career more enjoyable. Your Agents may be inspired to build a team under them, once they become more experienced and realize how much more they can achieve.
HAVE A SAFE PLACE TO SEND YOUR REFERRALS You can build a team to specialize in products that you personally do not care to market. You’ll have somewhere to send your referrals and still earn money from the sales. This can also reduce the chance your business will be replaced by other Agents.
PASS YOUR KNOWLEDGE TO OTHERS You’ve learned a lot over the years! Help others build their own success stories by sharing your knowledge, and earn an income for it at the same time. When the time comes to sell your business, you may have more options. If you sell your business to one of your Agents, they’ll probably run it the way you trained them.
GET THE LAW OF NUMBERS ON YOUR SIDE The bigger your team, the more likely it is that clients have heard of you. Name recognition has been known to increase creditability, which could be important to a potential recruit.
Have you ever thought about building an insurance agency? If your answer is yes, take a couple of minutes to read through this issue to learn just how easy it can be with the support that United American and First United American brings to the table. First things first; ask this question: “What’s in it for me?” As it turns out, the answer is “a lot”!
Yes, there’s ‘a lot in it for you’ to build an Agency. Our President of General Agents, Charles Mankamyer, is a perfect example of what you can achieve if you commit to growth. His story starts in 1970. Fresh out of the Navy, he answered a blind ad in the newspaper titled, ‘Respectable Position’, and after obtaining his Florida resident insurance license, began his career as an Agent at a small health and life Agency.
After nine years managing and growing that business, Chuck opened his own Agency in Florida in 1979, contracting with UA soon after. Through the years, Chuck and his team have recruited more than 40,000 Agents nationwide. His organization has been honored as the longest consecutive Eagle in the history of UA. That’s some record. Yet, whenever I’ve complimented him on his achievement, he’s always corrected me and said, “I didn’t do it. WE did it as a team.”
Chuck has built an empire with the team concept. You can too.

As an independent, UA-appointed Agent, you’re not obligated in any way to invest money to open an Agency.
I HAVE TO INVEST A LOT OF MONEY TO OPEN AN AGENCY.
I HAVE TO SET UP A CORPORATION TO HAVE AN AGENCY.
Whether you’re appointed with UA as an individual or a corporation, you can build an Agency through recruiting.
I HAVE TO MANAGE MY DOWNLINE AGENT’S COMMISSION CHECKS.
You may opt to have UA manage your downline Agents’ commission checks for you if they are sub-contracted Agents, whereas non-contracted Agents are paid through your Agency.
At UA, most of our recruiting and training is done without ever meeting Agents face-to-face.
YOU HAVE TO MEET FACE-TO-FACE TO RECRUIT AND TRAIN YOUR AGENTS.
I HAVE TO BE LICENSED IN EVERY STATE WHERE I RECRUIT.
Depending on how you set up your downline, you may be able to receive their commissions even if they leave you — as long as their policies are still on the books!
SOME AGENTS WILL BE A LOT OF WORK AND NOT WORTH THE RETURN.
IF THE AGENT BECOMES TOO SUCCESSFUL, YOU WILL LOSE THEM BECAUSE THE INSURANCE COMPANY WILL TRY AND TAKE THEM FROM YOU.
You are not alone! UA can show you how to recruit, and get your Agents the training and support they need. Your contract with UA also offers an opportunity for your Agents to build Agencies under them, so you can have different levels of management.
IT IS DIFFICULT TO RECRUIT AGENTS.
There are more than 30 states in the U.S. where UA-appointed Agents are permitted to receive overrides from sub-contracted Agents and downline Agents, even though they’re not licensed or personally appointed in those states.
IF YOUR RECRUIT QUITS OR FAILS, YOU ALWAYS LOSE OUT ON YOUR OVERRIDES.
As an independent, UA-appointed Agent, you control that return. You can select the commission levels to adjust how much override you make per Agent! You can terminate an Agent at any time.
That will NOT happen at UA. Unless an Agent has gone six months without selling a product under you, an Agent cannot leave your team unless you sign a release. In fact, that’s a hard company rule!
IT’S A LOT OF WORK AND I CAN’T DO IT ALL MYSELF.
On average, UA recruits more than 650 Agents per month. We will share our techniques with you! It can be easier than you might imagine.
DEBUNKING THE MythsSince United American began in 1947, thousands of independent brokers have found success selling UA products. As an independent Agent appointed with UA, you may represent UA products as a career Agent, or you may choose to recruit other Agents who’ll work under you selling UA products. Building a team or Agency increases your production as you determine overrides and commissions. Our role is to offer training and support in the sale of UA products. When drafting your vision of the future, don’t let the following common myths about starting your own Agency hold you back.
Hopefully, we’ve cleared up any misconceptions you may have had about building your own team or Agency. Want to know more? For some great facts on how UA can help you get started, just turn the page ….

IT’S TIME TO
BUILDHOW CAN UA AND FIRST UA
HELP? LET’S COUNT THE WAYS …
Our Directors have decades of experience in the industry in all areas
of sales, team management, and recruiting. We’ve got a wealth of
knowledge to share and countless tips on generating new recruiting
leads — at no cost to you. If you’re willing to invest in generating
recruiting leads, we’ve got many other opportunities for you to choose
from. Consider setting up a one-on-one meeting with your recruiting
director to see what may get the best returns. Or, do whatever has
worked for you in the past. Here are just some of the ways we offer
recruiting support to Agents appointed with UA and First UA.
IF YOU DON’T KNOW
ANY AGENTS TO RECRUIT …
We can introduce you to newly-licensed
or already-appointed Agents who want a
mentor in your area, depending on how
your goals and their needs align.
You’re invited to our seminars! Many
of our Agents introduce themselves to
other Agents at the seminars, and offer
additional support in exchange for the
Agents sub-contracting with them.
IF YOU DON’T KNOW WHAT TO
SAY TO RECRUIT AN AGENT …
We have scripts and training that offer
many suggestions on what to say. Some
Agents come to us for hands-on training,
or send a member of their team.
We’ve learned the best way to recruit
an Agent is to offer leads. UA has many
lead sources so you don’t have to do it
yourself.
If they have a book of business, they might
want to revisit those clients who may
never have been offered a UA product.
IF YOU ALREADY HAVE
AGENTS YOU KNOW WHO
YOU’D LIKE TO RECRUIT …
Some Agents prefer to send us names
and contact info of Agents they know,
and we do all of the recruiting legwork
for them.
Some prefer we set up a webinar or a
seminar for Agents they’d like to recruit.
We present the UA opportunity for
the prospective recruit, and you close.
In either case, the Agent is recruited
through you and not directly by UA.
IF YOU DON’T WANT TO
TRAIN YOUR NEW RECRUITS ...
We have interactive training available online 24/7.
Agents can access Home Office support from
Agency Services and our Director team.
We conduct live training seminars and webinars
for large groups of Agents. Depending on the size
of your Agency, we can offer customized trainings
just for your group.

And That's Not All!
Once they’re UA-appointed, the following tools are available to your new recruits to
help them build a strong client base.*

; ‘Fast Start’ incentive for the newly-appointed Agents (receive 1,000 direct lead mailers)
; Ongoing monthly incentives (Agents can receive 1,000 to 2,000 direct lead mailers)
; Optional Lead Account- 15% of Annualized Health sales and 10% of Life sales are set aside in a special lead account
; Lead referrals from UA – When prospects reach out to us for coverage, we typically send them to our Agencies
; Comprehensive lead vendor list of nearly 40 companies, many of which offer exclusive UA pricing and discounts
; Introductory offers such as our Accidental Death Policy help gather referrals and increase potential for Agents to get in front of more clients
; Pre-approved, no-cost ads available on our Agent website
*Terms and conditions of incentives apply. May not be available in all states.
Well?If you’re motivated to start recruiting, or to take your recruiting results to the next level, our Coordinator of Marketing and Agent Development, Alyssa Church ([email protected]), can put you in touch with your local Recruiting Director to set up a one-on-one meeting. If you’re not interested in recruiting today, but you’ve realized you have not taken full advantage of all of the lead support that UA has to offer, you may want to contact our Training Department, Rick Andriola and Jonathan Vall, [email protected], and they can assist you.
