DescriptionAn African elephant is a mammal that lives in Africa. African elephants gray but when they’re in the sun they look a little brown. An African elephant has large ears. An African elephant has five toes but only three nails in the back. They have four – foot tail. An African elephant is larger then a Asian elephant. It is the largest living land animal. All African elephants have big tusks. An African elephant is heavier than a piano, 500 to 1400 pounds. They breath out of their trunks which are their noises. Their ears help them cool off.

Habitat

African elephants live in Africa. They live in the wild. They live in the savannas. It is a grassy land with not many trees.

This is the savanna where African elephants live.

DietAfrican elephants are herbivores or plant eaters. African elephants eat grass, leaves, bark and roots. They eat up to 300 to 600 pounds. African elephants almost eat all day.

SurvivalAn African elephant does not have many predators. When their babies are in danger they charge. There are only 690,000 African elephants enemy is a lion, which can attach the babies.

African elephants babies are called “calves”. They love going in mud and water.
