• Governmental negotiations (2011)– 102 million euros was pledged to Ethiopia – Period from 2012 to 2014

Qualitative Goals of the Reform

• Institutes of Technology in Ethiopia provide comprehensive, practice-oriented and need-driven engineering technology education that contributes to the economic and industrial development of the country.

• Upgrading of the sector and quality assurance• Changing student profile

– 70 % of enrolments in S&T, focus on engineering

Autonomy as framework for fast development and transformation

• Autonomy within Addis Ababa University was granted to EiABC and AAiT

• Autonomy Directive – Approved August 2011for EiABC and AAiT– Other Directives are under way

• Autonomy– Governance, Academic Affairs, Administration, Finance– AAU has a supervising and control function– Mechanisms for implementation of autonomy are

already partly in place
