Key Message

While Business to Consumer (B2C) is often more “sexy”, there’s a lot of money to be made in Business to Business startups & technology.

If you’re doing a startup, seriously think about the ‘enterprise’ (B2B).

B2B has a few advantages that matter to Aussie entrepreneurs:

• Money – users/customers will pay. More limited venture community doesn’t matter as much, you don’t need to give up equity & you have mkt validation

• Scale – B2C generally requires large scale to be successful, but B2B can be profitable quite early. Since Australia doesn’t have scale, B2B can be better

• Support – use our small market to your advantage. Aussie enterprises will often give startups a chance & connections/intros can be easier to get

• Trends – consumer tech (Web 2.0, mobile apps) are ahead of enterprise. You can create value with less risk by applying what’s known to work.
