The Beginning
• The FFA was founded in 1928, and was then known as the Future Farmers of America, and it promoted agricultural education.
• Established at the National Livestock Judging Contest by 33 students from 18 states.
• The first FFA national convention was held in Kansas City, where Leslie Applegate was elected president.
•Official colors: National Blue & Corn Gold
FFA Creed
• 1930- Original creed written by Edwin O. Grover.
• Second creed was written by E.M. Tiffany, who was never able to attend a FFA convention. The creed underwent 2 revision, and is used currently.
The Middle Ages
• 1953- Marks the silver anniversary of the founding for the FFA, and a commemorative postage stamp was introduced.
• In 1959, the National FFA Center was established in Alexandria, Virginia. George Washington formally owned the land.
• 1965- The FFA annexes the New Farmers of America .
• By 1969 women were able to join the FFA. • 1971- The FFA Alumni Association is founded.• The Alumni Association currently has 42,000
members, and keeps former FFA members involved in local chapters.
Recently…
• 1998- The FFA Center was moved to Indianapolis, Indiana.
• 1999- The FFA national convention was held in Louisville, Kentucky. It was held in Louisville through 2005.
FFA Center
• FFA manual was translated into Spanish in 2000.
• States such as Texas and California have a large Latino population. The translated manual helps chapters overcome language barriers at competitions and conventions.
