Alamitos Energy Center The Alamitos Energy Center (AEC) is a 650 megawatt (MW), natural gas-fired power plant with the capacity to power nearly one-million average Southern California homes using the cleanest available natural gas and best in-class combined-cycle gas turbine technology. Our new plant eliminates the use of ocean water for cooling, reduces the use of fresh water by 70 percent, uses 50 percent less fuel to generate the same amount of electricity as the old steam boilers it is replacing, and is fitted with the best available emission control technology. In addition, the AEC’s fast & efficient start-up and shut down capabilities will enable the integration of intermittent renewable energy and fill the gap when the sun does not shine and the wind does not blow, helping California reach its clean energy goals. AES is committed to a responsible energy transition, helping California accelerate the growth of intermittent, renewable energy while reducing emissions from the use of fossil fuels. We also believe our role should extend beyond our core mission. Which is why we are dedicated to making a positive impact in the communities in which we live and work through our philanthropic program. Our philanthropy is focused in ways that address important issues like the environment, education and training, public health and safety, and social and cultural welfare. We believe we can strengthen and empower our communities by collaborating with community partners who dedicate their time to strengthen and improve the quality of life of the residents in the communities we serve. Because people are at the core of what we do.
