Lower limb(s) disability Manual dexterity. Disability in co-ordination with different organs ofthe body. Disability in mobility can be either an in-born oracquired with age problem. It could also be theeffect of a disease. People who have a brokenbone also fall into this category of disability. 9. www.capabilitiesinc.biz Spinal Cord Disability Sometimes lead to lifelong disabilities Mostly occurs due to severe accidents Incomplete Injury- the messages conveyed bythe spinal cord is not completely lost Complete Injury- results in a total dis-functioning of the sensory organs. In somecases spinal cord disability can be a birthdefect. 10. www.capabilitiesinc.bizHead Injuries Brain Disability Occurs due to a brain injury Magnitude of the brain injury can range frommild, moderate and severe. Two types of brain injuries: Acquired Brain Injury (ABI) Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) ABI is not a hereditary type defect but is the degenerationthat occurs after birth. The causes of such cases of injury are many and are mainlybecause of external forces applied to the body parts TBI results in emotional dysfunctioning and behavioraldisturbance. 11. www.capabilitiesinc.bizVision Disability Hundreds of thousands of people that suffer fromminor to various serious vision disability orimpairments Injuries can also result into some seriousproblems or diseases like blindness and oculartrauma, to name a few. Some of the common vision impairment includesscratched cornea, scratches on thesclera, diabetes related eye conditions, dry eyesand corneal graft. 12. www.capabilitiesinc.bizHearing Disability Hearing disabilities includes people that are completely orpartially deaf Deaf is the politically correct term for a person with hearingimpairment People who are partially deaf can often use hearing aids toassist their hearing Deafness can be evident at birth or occur later in life fromseveral biologic causes Deaf people use sign language as a means ofcommunication Hundreds of sign languages are in use around the world Sign languages are as rich and complex as any oral language 13. www.capabilitiesinc.bizCognitive or Learning Disabilities Cognitive Disabilities are kind of impairmentpresent in people who are suffering fromdyslexia and various other learning difficulties Includes speech disorders 14. www.capabilitiesinc.biz Psychological Disorders Affective Disorders: Disorders of mood or feelingstates either short or long term Mental Health Impairment is the term used todescribe people who have experiencedpsychiatric problems or illness such as: Personality Disorders - Defined as deeply inadequatepatterns of behavior and thought of sufficient severityto cause significant impairment to day-to-dayactivities. Invisible Disabilities- Disabilities that are notimmediately apparent to others Estimated that 10% of people in the US have a medical condition that is considered a type of invisible disability 16. www.capabilitiesinc.biz What Do People With DisabilitiesWant?
