In 1856, John Lonsdale settled on the 1,500 acres of prairie grass fields in Guthrie Coun-ty that eventually came to be known as Dale City. Now, a century and a half later, John’s descendants, Tracy and Edward Mahlstadt, continue the family tradition of tending to
the land but with a contemporary twist. With award-winning wines unique to the Midwestern soil that gives them life, Dale Val-ley Vineyard and Winery celebrates its fourth season in the one-room schoolhouse where young Dale city locals were educated more than 100 years ago. Come visit this family-owned business and enjoy a bottle of wine and live music while relaxing on their spacious deck. Catch sight of native Iowa wildlife and breathtaking Grant Wood-like scenery as you sip some of the finest wine Iowa has to offer. Nine wines, handcrafted on-site, are avail-able alongside everything you’ll need to start your very own wine cellar in the gift shop and tasting room. Come see what John Lonsdale discovered more than 150 years ago at Dale Valley Vine-yard and Winery. Getting away never tasted so good.
