Advertisement Assignment

Students will find an advertisement in a magazine.They will develop new content and change the meaning and feeling.

The new ad will look just like the old one with text where there is text and pictures where there are pictures.

What did the student add and change?

Find an ad in a magazine

Scan or photograph the ad so you have a digital copy.

Objective #1: Students show ability to analyze ad. Make a written list and create a sketch to go with the

list. Identify areas of text Identify photographs

Identify graphic elements: icons, drawings or logos

Identify background images Identify page elements: ruled lines, headers, page

numbers

Keep the original ad in your folder.

Create a new message

Objective #2 Create new content and meaning for your ad. Make a written list that shows what the new

words will say. Use irony, sarcasm or humor to modify the

content of the ad. Write new text for the ad that gives it new

meaning.

Create a folder on your desktop

Find new imagery that will give the ad new meaning

Find new logos or illustrations to give the ad new meaning.

Replace each photograph with a new photograph Replace each graphic element with a new

Remake the ad in Photoshop

Objective # 4 Create a new document in Photoshop Measure the ad and create a document the

same size in PS Find pictures, logos, graphics and other things

to use in your ad remake. Create an image that has similar elements in

similar placement.
