I used to smoke, but now I’ve stoped. (NOT I was used to smoke…)

That hall used to be a cinema.

Page 18: advertisement /ædv ɚˈ ta ɪ zm ə nt, Brit ə d ˈ v ə : t ə sm ə nt/, ad - something (such as a short film or a written notice) that is shown or presented.

That is the house where we used to live. (but we don’t live there any longer)He used to smoke a lot. (but he doesn’t do so now)People used to think that the earth was flat. (but they don’t think so now)

Page 19: advertisement /ædv ɚˈ ta ɪ zm ə nt, Brit ə d ˈ v ə : t ə sm ə nt/, ad - something (such as a short film or a written notice) that is shown or presented.

Used to nema oblik za sadašnje vrijeme.

He smokes. (NOT He uses to smoke.)

Did you use to climb the old apple tree in the garden?Did he use to do it?He didn’t use to smoke as much as he does now.You didn’t use to make that mistake.

Page 20: advertisement /ædv ɚˈ ta ɪ zm ə nt, Brit ə d ˈ v ə : t ə sm ə nt/, ad - something (such as a short film or a written notice) that is shown or presented.

I always used to be afraid of dogs. (informal)I used always to be afraid of dogs. (formal)

Page 21: advertisement /ædv ɚˈ ta ɪ zm ə nt, Brit ə d ˈ v ə : t ə sm ə nt/, ad - something (such as a short film or a written notice) that is shown or presented.

Prošlo vrijeme se gradi veoma jednostavno. Ovo glagolsko vrijeme gradimo dodavanjem nastavka –ed na glagol u infinitive:

play – playedopen – openedrain – rainedstay – stayed

Page 22: advertisement /ædv ɚˈ ta ɪ zm ə nt, Brit ə d ˈ v ə : t ə sm ə nt/, ad - something (such as a short film or a written notice) that is shown or presented.

Page 23: advertisement /ædv ɚˈ ta ɪ zm ə nt, Brit ə d ˈ v ə : t ə sm ə nt/, ad - something (such as a short film or a written notice) that is shown or presented.

Ovo važi za pravilne glagole. Međutim, postoje i nepravilni glagoli kod kojih oblici prošlog vremena imaju zasebnu formu (II kolona). Neki od njih su na primjer:

be – was/werespeak – spokebuy – boughtunderstand – understoodhave – haddo – didcome – camesell – soldwrite – wroteput – put

Page 24: advertisement /ædv ɚˈ ta ɪ zm ə nt, Brit ə d ˈ v ə : t ə sm ə nt/, ad - something (such as a short film or a written notice) that is shown or presented.

Potvrdni oblik Upitni oblik Odrični oblik

I worked Did I work? I did not (didn’t) work

You worked Did you work? You didn’t work

He/she/it worked Did he/she/it work?

He/she/it didn’t work

Page 25: advertisement /ædv ɚˈ ta ɪ zm ə nt, Brit ə d ˈ v ə : t ə sm ə nt/, ad - something (such as a short film or a written notice) that is shown or presented.

Peter arrived at our house yesterday. We lived at Bournemouth for six years. I went to the cinema last night. Peter broke a window last night. I spent all my childhood in Scotland. Regularly every summer, Janet fell in love.

Page 26: advertisement /ædv ɚˈ ta ɪ zm ə nt, Brit ə d ˈ v ə : t ə sm ə nt/, ad - something (such as a short film or a written notice) that is shown or presented.

One day the Princess decided that she didn’t like staying at home all day, so she told her father that she wanted to get a job…

Page 27: advertisement /ædv ɚˈ ta ɪ zm ə nt, Brit ə d ˈ v ə : t ə sm ə nt/, ad - something (such as a short film or a written notice) that is shown or presented.

I saw John three months ago.We met a year ago.It happened forty years ago.We finished the report an hour ago.

I saw John before his birthday. We met before Christmas. It happened before the Second World War.We finished the report before the deadline.
