Chee Yen is a Chartered Accountant of the Malaysian Institute of Accountants [“CA(M)”], a Fellow Member of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants [“FCCA”], a Fellow Member of the Chartered Tax Institute of Malaysia [“FCTIM”] and a Member of the CPA Australia. He is also a graduate of the Malaysian Institute of Certified Public Accountants [“MICPA”] examinations.

Chee Yen has more than 20 years of tax experience and was involved in tax engagements concerning cross border transactions, tax due diligence review, restructuring schemes, corporate tax planning, merger and acquisition exercise, group tax review and inbound investments.

Prior to Advent Consulting Group, Chee Yen was attached to three of the Big Four accounting firms. Chee Yen’s expertise is in high demand and he is a prolific trainer/facilitator for many tax workshops and seminars organised by MIA, CTIM, ACCA, CPA Australia, the STAR newspapers and in-house training for both professional firms and corporations. He has also addressed many international conferences as a guest speaker in Hong Kong and Singapore.

He is also seen in many lecture halls of various colleges and universities in the past 18 years, specialising in taxation papers for professional examinations, namely ACCA, MICPA, ICSA and CTIM. Not to mention, he was the Chief Examiner for a taxation paper of a professional examination body.

Vijey started his working life as a consultant with the Tax and Business Advisory Division of a then “Big Five” accounting firm. Switching to legal practice, Vijey joined Raja, Darryl & Loh in 1999 and now heads the tax department of the firm.

Vijey’s areas of work in revenue matters include corporate and individual tax planning/advisory, dispute resolution with tax authorities, tax appeals to the courts, application for “approved status” in respect of charitable institutions/ organisations, double taxation treaties, real property gains tax, stamp duty, customs duties, service tax and the Labuan International Financial Centre.

Vijey has appeared before the Special Commissioners of Income Tax, the High Court and the Court of Appeal on major points of tax law. He has consistently been recommended in the area of Tax in publications such as The Asia Pacific Legal 500, the Tax Directors Handbook and Chambers Asia Pacific. Listed as a Leading Individual in the area of Tax in the Chambers Asia Pacific 2010 and 2011 and as a Leading Lawyer in Asialaw Profiles 2012.

Vijey is an Associate Member of CTIM and is Deputy Chairman of the GST and Tax Sub-Committee of the Malaysian Bar.

Combining his tax background with his corporate and commercial practice, he also handles a broad spectrum of corporate and commercial work such as advice on business structures and regulatory approvals, drafting of commercial agreements, carrying out legal due diligence exercises and corporate finance.
