1 Levels of models learning

Why are levels necessary?

➢ Too many models

Resource is limited, we do not have enough time to learn them very well which is not necessary

➢ Anyone model can be a book.

e.g. BSC, raised in 1993, is developed by thousands of papers

➢ Is every model important equally?

Some models are more important.

➢ Which is the best,50 mark or 100 mark?

50 mark means you are able to solve the problem , why are you not satisfied?

1 Levels of models learning

What are levels of models learning?

➢ 1st level : the goal of the model – useable

➢ 2nd level : the characteristic of the model – useful

➢ 3rd level: the basic logic – suitable

➢ 4th level: the framework – best

1 Levels of models learning

How to use levels?

➢When the model is required to use – 3rd or 4th level

➢When the model is not required but necessary – 2nd or 3rd level

➢When the model is just useful – 1st or 2nd level

2 Application of models

First level (1st)

➢ What is the goal of the model?

➢ What is the problem?

➢ Can the model be helpful?

2 Application of models

Second level (2nd)

➢ What is the characteristic of the model?

➢ What is the difficulty?

➢ Can the model be helpful?

2 Application of models

Third level (3rd)

➢ What is the basic logic of the model?

➢ Is there same logic in the situation?

➢ How to use the same logic to analyse the situation?

2 Application of models

Fourth level (4th)

➢ What is the framework of the model?

➢ Is there same key element in the situation?

➢ How to use the framework to analyse the situation?

3 levels of 6 sigma learning

First level (1st)

➢ One goal: to improve the quality

➢ Application: the information about the problem of quality, 6 sigma

can help to improve the quality, thus XXX company should think of

using 6 sigma to improve its quality.

3 levels of 6 sigma learning

Second level (2nd)

➢ One characteristic: 6 sigma = 3.4ppm

➢ Application: the information about 6 sigma

3 levels of 6 sigma learning

Third level (3rd)

➢ One logic: normal distribution or Gaussian distribution

➢ Application: the information about confidence interval, confidence

level, mean square deviation, analyse its logic.

3 levels of 6 sigma learning

Fourth level (4th)

➢ One framework: DMAIC
