FROM THE PRESIDENTWhat an exciting time at Owens Community College! As we continue to foster success for our students and community through relevant programming and regional community partnerships, we must also look

for ways to improve our current facilities.

Our regional business partners have expressed an urgent need for additional training to meet the predicted 2,118 new jobs in advanced manufacturing over the next five years. With that in mind, Owens will renovate a 50,000 square foot facility to create the Advanced Manufacturing Training Center.

This two-phase project is scheduled to be completed by summer 2020.

With your help, this modernized center will meet a community need, strengthen the economy, prepare area residents for rewarding careers and advance Owens as an indispensable partner for local businesses.

Dr. Steve Robinson President, Owens Community College

JOB OUTLOOKAdvanced Manufacturing job outlook for Lucas, Wood and Hancock counties over the next five years:

2,118 new jobs

With an average annual salary of

$63,228

Resulting in an additional annual economic impact on the region of

$134 million

REGIONAL IMPACT OF ADVANCED MANUFACTURINGMore than 65 large scale companies in the region that currently collaborate with Owens Community College have expressed a need for additional training for their incumbent workers and a pipeline of qualified new employees. Over 130,000 people currently hold positions in northwest Ohio in advanced manufacturing, which includes approximately 400 companies. Southeast Michigan has roughly 350,000 people working at over 700 companies.

With a large pool of retiring employees and knowledge in advanced technology needed for existing and incoming workers, the Center is well poised to take on the training needs of our region. Not only will the Center have the capacity to train a labor force in current technology, but also in the advance technologies that are just coming to the forefront.

Page 4: Advanced Manufacturing Training Center · for our students and community through relevant programming and regional community partnerships, we must also look for ways to improve our

The Center will offer state-of-the art labs and equipment in approximately 50,000 square feet of completely renovated space. Hands-on short-term training will enable our students to enter the job market quickly. Students will finish training with an industry recognized credential that will lead into degree programs should they intend to continue their education.

The Advanced Manufacturing Training Center Will:1. Attract individuals to enter the industry sector of

skilled trades and manufacturing and foster increased partnership opportunities for the region’s workforce training needs.

2. Fill the workforce jobs gap by producing an increased number of skilled workers available to employers in northwest Ohio and southeast Michigan.

3. Provide advanced training available to current employers, and provide the skilled labor workforce needed, to attract new business and industry to the region.
