Did you feel wellsupported in yourstudies? I was very well supportedthroughout my studies. I waspointed in the right direction for allrelevant reading materials, and hadMoodle, lecture capture and accessto any online journals that I neededthrough the University’s onlinelibrary system. The facilities weregreat, the journey down to Kent wassimple and there were plenty ofplaces for me to stay while I wasthere. I especially appreciated theadditional benefits, including thatyou got free access to the HistoricDockyard Chatham where youcould go on board a World War 2destroyer and a submarine from theCold War era.

How have your studiesdeveloped you in yourworking practice? I learnt a lot more around mychosen research area – therestorative management of toothwear – which informed my clinicalpractice. It’s also beneficial beingable to discuss the work I did formy Master’s when I’m talking topatients, as I think they find thefact I completed doing higher-levelstudy reassuring.

Do you have any advicefor future applicants? If you’re coming up to finishingthe Restorative Diploma, I woulddefinitely recommend the year ofstudy at the University of Kent tocomplete the Master’s programme. The weekend taught sessionsminimise disruption to practice andit is only just over one more yearof work. Plus the University of KentMSc offers much lower fees thanother universities offering a similarprogramme.

Overall, this is a great way ofgaining a Master’s-level academicqualification that will help set youapart from your peers. I wouldthoroughly recommend it to anyone.

Matthew Condongraduated from theUniversity of Kent withanMSc in Advanced andSpecialist Healthcare(Advanced DentalClinical Practice). He isan Associate Dentist atFarsley Dental Practice,Leeds.

What attracted you tostudying this programme?Having completed the FGDPRestorative Diploma, there was thenan opportunity to pursue a year ofstudy at the University of Kent inorder to convert my Diploma into anMSc. After investing time and moneyinto the Restorative Diploma, onefurther year of study to gain a fullMSc was appealing. Also, with theincrease in graduates undertakingpostgraduate study, having an MScas well as the Restorative Diplomahelped to set me apart from mypeers.

How would you describethe teaching? The teaching was excellent. The course organisers were verythorough in explaining what isexpected, and were very happyfor you to email or call to discussany questions regarding yourresearch project.
