be signed during the three-day global event. "Our demand of food is set to double over the next five years. Being the
sixth largest food and grocery market in the world, India is a destination that merits global attention in the food

India simplified the regulatory mechanism for food products
The Food Safety Standards Authority (FSSAI) of India has come up with standards that meet the global benchmarks
that are simple and easy to understand. Details of the regulation were discussed at a session called ‘One Nation –
One Food Law’. The new tool called ‘Food Regulatory Portal’ was launched by the FSSAI. The portal is expected to be
a game changer for effective and transparent implementation of the food safety laws in India.
"Food processing is going to be one of the principal industries of India in future, and an entrepreneur in 2017 should
think of the industry from the perspective of where it will be in 2040, 2050." Finance Minister, Arun Jaitley said. In
terms of market size, the Indian food market was worth USD 193 billion and is expected to reach USD 540 billion in

invest USD 240 million in India over the next five years. The announcement was
made by Peter Van Deursen, the CEO of Cargill Asia Pacific. Mr. Van Deursen said

Dr. Ramanan Laxminarayan, the Director of Center for Disease
Dynamics, Economics & Policy, said that most of poultry feed
available in the Indian market was medicated, however, majority of
farmers were not aware the presence of antibiotic growth
promoters premixed in chicken feed.
Although the use of antibiotics to promote animal growth has been
long banned in Europe, India has no such regulation. Therefore,
unregulated availability of antibiotics is in bulk and tracking
mechanism to map production and consumption is not available.
Private and cooperative sector dairies in India are increasingly adopting the
latest tagging and tracking technologies to supervise the productivity, monitor
milk supplies and take corrective steps to meet market demands quickly

Indian dairies are increasingly using technology for supervising productivity
Individual cow identification is a tool that
enables its users to track animals and
their associated records. The technology
relies on being able to distinguish animals
and therefore manage their records
independently.
Amul and Chitale Dairy are the early
adopters of tagging radio frequency
identifications. These companies have
been using this for nearly decade. Hatsun
Agro and Dodla Dairy are among newer
ones that adopted these steps.
India is the world’s largest producer of
milk and has the highest cattle
population globally with a share of 30%.
