Texas DL and ID Card Features ADULT DRIVER LICENSE In April 2009, Texas will begin issuing newly designed Driver Licenses (DL) and Identification Cards (ID). These identification documents will contain many advanced security features to combat counterfeiting, photo swapping, tampering and other types of fraud. New features inclusive of advanced printing techniques as well as a 2D barcode will be present in all DL and ID cards. The new design will continue to provide all information necessary for identification and verification purposes, including the license holder’s demographics, photograph, and signature on the front of the card. Texas’ new DL/ID cards are valid for up to a 6 year period from the date of issuance. Minor (under 21) DL and ID cards will be presented in a vertical format. Validity periods on ID’s only for individuals 60 and over will have an indefinite expiration date. These enhanced security features will provide law enforcement with improved resources for verifying the authenticity of Texas issued driver licenses and identification cards.
