HOW TO APPLY AND ENROL

24+ Advanced Learning Loans

Courses with a 3 are eligible for 24+ advanced learning loans. Please check your eligibility before applying for a loan by visiting www.gov.uk/advanced-learning-loans or calling our Student Services team on 0151 353 4444.

NEED MORE INFO?

Applying for the University Centre (Courses shown on pages 16 and 17)

To apply for these courses, call Admissions on 0151 353 4444 or email [email protected]. We will then organise for you to come in and meet the course leader before we enrol you on the course.

1. Look through this brochure and find a course that interests you.

2a If a course has a price next to it, then you will need to check at the bottom of the table for information on who to contact to progress your application and talk about payment options etc.

2b If a course has no price next to it, then you simply apply online at: www.hughbaird.ac.uk/apply or request an application form on 0151 353 4444

3. Once we have your application, we will contact you and invite you along at a convenient time and date for a chat with a course tutor.

Please make sure you attend this appointment so we can get you set up ready to start in September. The sooner you are set up, the sooner we can access financial packages to support your development.

4. After you’ve met a tutor you will need to enrol to complete your application. You may be able to enrol straight after you’ve met your tutor, or you may have to come back to one of the Enrolment Days (see page 2 to find out which Enrolment Day is for you).*

MONEY MATTERS...Don’t let the cost of studying stop you finding your future At Hugh Baird College, our Student Services team can provide you with advice on the cost of studying and the many support funds that you could access to help with costs.

How much will I pay for a course?

If you are aged 16-18, courses are FREE.

• In receipt of Job Seekers Allowance (JSA) or Employment Support Allowance (ESA)

• Studying GCSE English and/or Maths and have not already obtained a grade C or above in the subject

N.B. A £30. administration fee applies for all courses apart from those on pages 16 and 17, and you may have to pay additional costs such as kit, uniforms, etc.

To find out if you qualify for FREE courses, please call 0151 353 4444 and ask to speak to a member of the Student Services team.

How do I pay for my course?

You can pay for your course at the first session by cash, cheque, credit or debit card.

Is there other financial help available?

Yes, many students can apply for financial assistance through a Bursary. Our Bursary can provide you with help towards travel, childcare and meal costs whilst at college. To apply for a Bursary, you will need to complete a Bursary Application Form. These are available at www.hughbaird.ac.uk/student-finance or we can post you a copy if you call 0151 353 4444.

24+ Advanced Learning Loans are also available to learners aged 24 or over on selected college courses (see page 5 for more information on the 24+ Advanced Learning Loan).

Can I pay in instalments?

Yes, you may be able to spread the cost over monthly instalments (depending on the course).

• Courses which cost £100 or less must be paid for in full at enrolment.

• If a course costs over £100, students can pay over 3 payments (1 deposit at enrolment and 2 further instalments).

• If the course fee is £800 or more, students can pay over 4 instalments (1 deposit and 3 further instalments).

University Centre Courses Different rules apply for higher education courses (those on pages 16 and 17 of this guide) and alternative financial support packages may be available. For further information, visit the University Centre pages of our website at: www.hughbaird.ac.uk/university-centre.

Foundation Degrees There are both full time and part time options for all of these courses. However, even for full time courses, you may only attend the University Centre for 2 or 3 days per week, making it easier to combine work, childcare and study. Foundation Degrees are typically studied over two years if studying full time and three years if studying part time.
