24+ Advanced Learning Loans
Courses with a 3 are eligible for 24+ advanced learning loans. Please check your eligibility before applying for a loan by visiting www.gov.uk/advanced-learning-loans or calling our Student Services team on 0151 353 4444.

Applying for the University Centre (Courses shown on pages 16 and 17)
To apply for these courses, call Admissions on 0151 353 4444 or email [email protected]. We will then organise for you to come in and meet the course leader before we enrol you on the course.
1. Look through this brochure and find a course that interests you.
2a If a course has a price next to it, then you will need to check at the bottom of the table for information on who to contact to progress your application and talk about payment options etc.
2b If a course has no price next to it, then you simply apply online at: www.hughbaird.ac.uk/apply or request an application form on 0151 353 4444
3. Once we have your application, we will contact you and invite you along at a convenient time and date for a chat with a course tutor.
Please make sure you attend this appointment so we can get you set up ready to start in September. The sooner you are set up, the sooner we can access financial packages to support your development.
4. After you’ve met a tutor you will need to enrol to complete your application. You may be able to enrol straight after you’ve met your tutor, or you may have to come back to one of the Enrolment Days (see page 2 to find out which Enrolment Day is for you).*

MONEY MATTERS...Don’t let the cost of studying stop you finding your future At Hugh Baird College, our Student Services team can provide you with advice on the cost of studying and the many support funds that you could access to help with costs.
How much will I pay for a course?
If you are aged 16-18, courses are FREE.
If you are aged 19+, depending on your circumstances, you may be eligible for FREE tuition on courses. This applies if you are:
• In receipt of Job Seekers Allowance (JSA) or Employment Support Allowance (ESA)
• Aged 19-23 without a level 2 qualification, studying a level 1 qualification with plans to progress
• Aged 19-23 undertaking your full first level 2 qualification
• Aged 19-23 undertaking your full first level 3 qualification
• Studying GCSE English and/or Maths and have not already obtained a grade C or above in the subject
N.B. A £30. administration fee applies for all courses apart from those on pages 16 and 17, and you may have to pay additional costs such as kit, uniforms, etc.

How do I pay for my course?
You can pay for your course at the first session by cash, cheque, credit or debit card.
Is there other financial help available?
Yes, many students can apply for financial assistance through a Bursary. Our Bursary can provide you with help towards travel, childcare and meal costs whilst at college. To apply for a Bursary, you will need to complete a Bursary Application Form. These are available at www.hughbaird.ac.uk/student-finance or we can post you a copy if you call 0151 353 4444.
24+ Advanced Learning Loans are also available to learners aged 24 or over on selected college courses (see page 5 for more information on the 24+ Advanced Learning Loan).
Can I pay in instalments?
Yes, you may be able to spread the cost over monthly instalments (depending on the course).
• Courses which cost £100 or less must be paid for in full at enrolment.
• If a course costs over £100, students can pay over 3 payments (1 deposit at enrolment and 2 further instalments).
• If the course fee is £800 or more, students can pay over 4 instalments (1 deposit and 3 further instalments).
University Centre Courses Different rules apply for higher education courses (those on pages 16 and 17 of this guide) and alternative financial support packages may be available. For further information, visit the University Centre pages of our website at: www.hughbaird.ac.uk/university-centre.

24+ Advanced Learning Loans
If finances have been holding you back from studying, you can now apply for a 24+ Advanced Learning Loan to cover the cost of your course.To qualify for a loan you need to:• Be aged 24 or over at the start of the course• Apply for an eligible course at level 3 or above. Courses eligible for the loan are highlighted throughout the course guide with a tick symbol 3• A resident in the UK for 3 years prior to the start of the courseGetting a loan does not depend on your household income and there is no credit check.
Paying back your loanIf your course finishes in 2016, repayments won’t start until April 2017. If your course finishes in 2017, repayments won’t start until April 2018. You begin paying back your loan, including interest, when you have finished your course and start earning more than £21,000 a year. If, at any time, your earnings fall below this amount, your repayments will stop. Be aware that if you leave or change your course after two weeks, you will have to pay back any money that has been paid to the College.
Studying Access to Higher Education?If you get a loan to cover tuition fees for an Access to HE course, you will not be required to pay back the loan if: • You progress onto a higher education programme and successfully complete the course. (e.g. The Hugh Baird University Centre courses on pages 16 and 17)

Foundation Degrees There are both full time and part time options for all of these courses. However, even for full time courses, you may only attend the University Centre for 2 or 3 days per week, making it easier to combine work, childcare and study. Foundation Degrees are typically studied over two years if studying full time and three years if studying part time.

Validated by the University of Central Lancashire, this one year course provides an access route into art and design education at degree level, guaranteeing progression for successful students onto any of our foundation degree design programmes.
