Summary and Highlights:
Karnataka Election Watch (KEW) has analyzed affidavits of 156 candidates from Bangalore in the Karnataka 2013 State Assembly Elections. These 156 candidates belong to 6 major political Parties i.e. BJP, INC, JD(S), KJP, BSRC, Loksatta Party (LSP)
Bangalore comprises of the following regions: BBMP (Central), BBMP (North), BBMP (South), Bangalore Urban and Bangalore Rural. There are 32 constituencies which fall under these 5 regions.

Crorepati Candidates: Out of these 156 candidates from Bangalore belonging to 6 major political parties, 118 (or 76%) are crorepatis.
Average Assets: Out of the 156 candidates belonging to 6 major political parties, the average asset per candidate contesting from Bangalore in the 2013 Karnataka Assembly Elections is Rs 25 crore. The average assets of 179 outgoing MLAs who are contesting again in the 2013 Karnataka Assembly Elections is 19.87 crores.
Party-wise Average Assets: Among major parties, the average asset per candidate for INC (32 candidates) is Rs 67 Crore, for JD (S) (32 candidates) is Rs 32 Crore, for BJP (30 candidates) is Rs 20 Crore, for KJP (28 candidates) is Rs 3 Crore, Loksatta Party (11 candidates) Rs 3 Crore and BSRC (22 candidates) is Rs 69 Lakhs.
Highest Asset Candidates: The top three candidates with highest declared assets are (in decreasing order): Priyakrishna of INC from Govindrajnagar Constituency who has declared assets worth Rs. 910.9 crores, followed by N Nagaraju (MTB) of INC from Hosakote Constituency with Rs. 470.13 crores worth of assets and K. Bagegowda of JD(S) from Basavanagudi Constituency with assets worth Rs. 250.53 crores.
Low Asset Candidates: Out of 156 candidates belonging to 6 major political parties, analysed from Bangalore, a total of 8 candidates have declared assets less than Rs. 1 Lakh.
Lowest Asset Candidates: R Sathya Narayana of KJP from K.R Pura consituency has declared zero assets followed by Pairosa Pasha of BSRC from K.R Pura Constituency with Rs. 62,000 and M.H Chandrashekhar of BSRC from C.V Ramannagar Constituency with assets worth Rs 2.5 Lakhs.
Liabilities: A total of 90 candidates out of 156 analyzed have declared liabilities of Rs. 10 lakhs or above.
Highest Liability Candidates: The top three candidates with highest declared liabilities are (in decreasing order): Priyakrishna of INC from Govindrajnagar Consituency has declared the highest liabilities worth Rs. 777 crores followed by Prabhakara Reddy R of JD(S) from Bangalore South Constituency with liabilities worth Rs 200 Crore, followed by M. Krishnappa of INC from Vijayanagar Constituency with Rs 78 crores worth of liabilities.
Undeclared PAN: 12 out of 156 (8%) candidates contesting from Bangalore for the 2013 Assembly Elections have not declared their PAN details.
Undeclared PAN Party-wise: 6 out of 22 candidates of BSRC have not declared their PAN. Similarly, for KJP 4 out of 28 and for INC 2 out of 32 candidates have not declared their PAN details. All candidates from BJP, JD(S) and Loksatta Party have provided their PAN details.
Candidates who have declared ITR: 134 out of 156 candidates (86%) declared an annual income in their ITR.

Highest Income Candidates: N.A Haris of INC from Shantinagar Constituency has declared the highest income of worth Rs 49 crore in the last Income Tax Returns (ITR) filed for the year 2011-2012 followed by N. Nagaraju (M.T.B) of INC from Hosakote Constituency with total income worth Rs 21 crore and Prabhakara Reddy R of JD(S) from Bangalore South with an income of 9 crore. N. Nagaraju and Prabhakara Reddy R have also declared that they filed their income tax returns for the year 2011-2012. Criminal:
Candidates with Criminal Cases: Out of the 156 candidates analyzed from Bangalore, 32 candidates (or 20 %) have declared criminal cases against them. 40 out of the 179 sitting MLAs contesting again in the 2013 Karnataka Assembly Elections have criminal cases against them.
Party wise Candidates with Criminal Cases: From the 30 candidates contesting from Bangalore BJP has fielded 9 (30%) candidates with criminal cases while 9 (28%) candidates from a total of 32 candidates fielded by INC have declared criminal cases against them. JD(S) has 6 out of 32 (19 %), KJP has 3 out of 28 (11 %), BSRC has 2 out of 22 (9%) and Loksatta Party has 2 out of 11 (18%) candidates who have declared criminal cases against them.
Candidates with Serious Criminal Cases: Out of the total 32 candidates who have declared criminal cases, 16 have declared serious criminal cases like attempt to murder, criminal intimidation, voluntary causing hurt, cases under Prevention of Corruption Act. INC and BJP both have 4 candidates with serious criminal cases, followed by JD(S) with 3 candidates, KJP with 2 candidates and BSRC with 1 candidate who has declared serious criminal charges.
Attempt to murder case: V. Nagaraj of BSRC contesting from Gandhinagar constituency has declared attempt to murder case against him.
Candidates with Corruption Cases: Out of the 156 candidates, belonging to 6 major parties contesting Assembly election from Bangalore region, 3 have declared that they have cases under Prevention of Corruption Act. These are M.C Narayana Gowda of JD(S) contesting from Chickpet constituency, S.N. Srirama of KJP from Padmanabanagar constituency and S. Suresh Kumar of BJP from Rajajinagar constituency.

Candidates’ Age: A total of 6 candidates, out of the 156 that have been analyzed, are of more than 70 years of age. 42 candidates are aged 40 years or less.
Women Candidates: Out of 156 candidates analyzed, 16 (10%) women are contesting from Bangalore in the Karnataka 2013 Assembly Elections. Out of the 16 women contesting from Bangalore, 6 belong to the Loksatta Party, 4 belong to KJP, 3 from JD(S), 2 from the INC followed by BSRC who has fielded one woman candidate.
