Irrigation Water Use= 80% of Total Water Design Water Use Efficiency= 40 to 45% Actual Water Use Efficiency= 25 to 40 %

Thus, there is scope for Efficiency Improvement.

Efficient water management means supplying right quantity and right quality of water to the various stakeholders at the right time with minimum losses and minimum cost.

Free catchment area = 116.55 km2

To irrigate 978ha area, 6.25 Mcum water was required as per original planning with canal.

In 2011-12, 3.26 Mcum water irrigated 947 ha of area.

The duty, i.e. the area of land that can be irrigated with unit volume of irrigation water is 290 ha/Mcum.

These results are extraordinary and the reason behind this is optimum utilisation of irrigation water by the pipe network in the command area by the farmers.

Water use efficiency for the AMWRP is about 85 to 90% due to reduction in losses in branch canal, minor and field channels

Use of Closed Conduit pipes & Sprinkler/Drip Irrigation Method was the reason behind improvement in efficiency.

This project is a very crucial example of how water can be efficiently managed and distributed to various stakeholders in order to achieve its desired benefits.

India is not a water deficit country, but severe neglect & lack of efficient water use is causing water stress.

The decreasing per capita water availability and increasing demand from various water stakeholders adds pressure.

The solutions to the problems across the country lies largely in areas of effective mechanism for conservation, distribution, management, and use of water.

Irrigation sector consumes about 80% of water and currently serving at water use efficiency of 25 to 40 percent.

The outcome of evaluation of Adol Multipurpose WR Project shows that efficiency in irrigation sector can be increased by adopting modern irrigation techniques such as Pipe Distribution Network & Drip/Sprinklers.

The case study of AMWRP is crucial in efficient water management with the help of Water Users Association.
