For our first project, we willattempt to duplicate a project thatresembles a dissolving two-projectorshow. desired time length. At any time duringthis process, you can view your showby pressing the play button in themonitor window. If you want to workon one specific section of yourpresentation, you can set the play pointto start at any time in the show.
Just below the video 1 line, you willfind an audio track where you wouldlay down a music or narration track. At
any time you can add more audiotracks if needed. Premier makes it easyto adjust the audio track volume levels. At points where you want to changelevels, you add keyframe anchor pointsand the line between the two points isa rubberband. To change volume levels, grab the line between two keyframesand move it up or down. This is a greatfunction if you have a narrative voice
over the music and you don't want themusic too loud.
Continue using the play button, reviewing the show until you have it justthe way you want. You can then save thefinal file as an AVI video file, or create afinal DVD using the output function.
For those who previously used threeor more projectors with added specialeffects, simulated motion and text,Premiere has all the tools you'll need. Forexample, you may want to have a titlemove across the screen or zoom in. Ifyou mask your title in Photoshop andsave it as a masked channel, you can floatthe title over an image. You can then go tothe effects

When you selectthe effect on the timeline,a menu at the top of theedit screen allows you totweak the transition effect.Left: This is the menudisplayed when you selecta transition effect fromthe timeline. Here, a crossdissolve is selected withthe effect displayed in themonitor and at the bottomof the menu.

menu and select one of several dozenvideo effects so your title will spin, zoom, pan, flow, or fly into the image.Best of all, your images stay in registerno matter how complex the effect, notlike the old slide projector shows.
At this point we have not evenscratched the surface of Premiere'spotential. If you are competent withlayers using Photoshop, you can createcomplex images with multiple layersthat can be imported into Premiere asPSD files. When you bring thesequences files, each layer becomes aseparate line that can be manipulatedwith any effect. For example, if youwant a complex image to appear topiece together from differentdirections, you can key all the layers tothat final point. Then select each layerand send it in a different direction atan earlier point on the timeline. Dothis to each layer, and run the effectforwards to see all the layers pan, zoom, and fly into the scene to createthe final image.
Each single image loaded onto thetimeline has a motion and opacityeffect automatically attached to theimage. The default is set so thatnothing happens to the image when

you drop it on the timeline, but bothare easily activated. By turning on thekeyframe button, you can change themotion and opacity values in the effect.
The motion is very flexible if youactive-touch the motion word itself. Thisturns on a mouse control that allows youto drag the image from the originalpoint to any other point on the viewingscreen. Even more control can beattained with the Bezier control handlesthat appear at the ends of the motionmovement. As you bend these handles, the motion path becomes a curved path. This enables you to have an image fly inat angles on a curved path.
Once you start to really understandthe power of Premiere, you might wantto turn on the image opacity handleswith a small button to the left of thetimeline. When you do, a small lineappears in your image and you canthen start adding keyframe anchorpoints on the line. Be aware that youwill need at least three keyframes toachieve any type of effect. Once youset three points, you can manuallymove one down, and the opacity of theimage forces the image to become lessvisible. This is a handy manual methodof controlling dissolving effects.
