Limited WarrantySeller warrants articles of its manufacture against defective materials or workmanship for a period of one year from the date of shipment to Purchaser, except as provided in any warranty applicable to Purchaser on or in the package containing the Goods (which warranty takes precedence over the following warranty). The liability of Seller under the foregoing warranty is limited, at Seller’s option, solely to repair or replacement with equivalent Goods, or an appropriate adjustment not to exceed the sales price to Purchaser, provided that (a) Seller is notified in writing by Purchaser, within the one year warranty period, promptly upon discovery of defects, with a detailed description of such defects, (b) Purchaser has obtained a Return Materials Authorization (RMA) from Seller, which RMA Seller agrees to provide Purchaser promptly upon request, (c) the defective Goods are returned to Seller, transportation and other applicable charges prepaid by the Purchaser, and (d) Seller’s examination of such Goods discloses to its reasonable satisfaction that defects were not caused by negligence, misuse, improper installation, improper maintenance, accident or unauthorized repair or alteration or any other cause outside the scope of Purchaser’s warranty made hereunder. Notwithstanding the foregoing, Seller shall have the option to repair any defective Goods at Purchaser’s facility. The original warranty period for any Goods that have been repaired or replaced by seller will not thereby be extended. In addition, all sales will be subject to standard terms and conditions on the sales contract.

SECTION 2 AdminManager Overview

AdminManager software runs on a PC/laptop. You can use it to configure, maintain, and query status of InterReach Unison, Accel, and MetroReach systems, locally or remotely.

It allows you to:

• Configure a system

• Query system status

• Save event reports and logs

2.1 Reporting Alarms

InterReach Unison and AccelAdminManager provides complete alarming for InterReach Unison and Accel, down to the field replaceable unit (that is, Main Hub, Expansion Hub, Remote Access Unit, Accel Hub) and the cabling infrastructure. Unison reports all alarms to AdminMan-ager. AdminManager can filter these alarms to show:

• Faults

• Faults and warnings

• Faults, warnings, and status.

Use AdminManager to query fault and warning status. The system communicates events to AdminManager using the hub’s front panel serial port which connects directly to a PC or to a modem.

MetroReach There are two configurations of MetroReach. One consists of a simple MFM/RFM link. The second, identified as Prism, consists of a MFM/RIM link as well as multiple remote sectors.

D-620020-0-20 Rev G AdminManager User Manual 2-1LGC Wireless Confidential

Page 18: AdminMgrManual-RevG

AdminManager Overview

The term MetroReach identifies either configuration, but Prism is used when infor-mation is specific to a MetroReach configuration with sectors.

AdminManager provides complete alarming for MetroReach Prism, down to the field replaceable unit (MFM, RIM, PMM, SMM, and RSMs). MetroReach reports all alarms to AdminManager. AdminManager can filter these alarms to show:

• Faults

• Faults and warnings

• Faults, warnings, and status

Use AdminManager to query fault and warning status using the MFM’s front panel serial port. You can also directly connect to the RIM’s front panel serial port for local maintenance.

2.2 Connectivity and Communications

The AdminManager communicates with Hubs and MetroReach using the Hub’s front panel serial port when connected directly to a PC or a modem.

ConnectivityFigure 2-1 shows different AdminManager connectivity options. AdminManager can ONLY communicate with one system using one connectivity option at a time:

• You can access InterReach Unison, Accel, and MetroReach directly using a NULL modem cable connected to the PC’s serial port (or an expansion serial port) and the Hub’s front panel RS-232 port. For MetroReach, you can directly connect to the MFM’s front panel RS-232 port or the RIM’s front panel RS-232 port. However you cannot use certain commands when connecting to the RIM. Refer to Section 4.8.

• You can access InterReach Unison and Accel remotely using a modem con-nected through the public switched telephone network, or an Ethernet-to-RS-232 converter identified by an IP address.

• You can access MetroReach remotely using the modem connected to the MFM, but only for query purposes.

AdminManager Overview

Communications

• InterReach Unison: AdminManager reflects any change of state within the InterReach Unison system when an active AdminManager connection to the sys-tem exists. However, AdminManager is not designed to monitor the system since it cannot notify anyone when an alarm occurs.

Figure 2-2 Remote Alarm Checking of Unison Systems

ExpansionHub

Each RAU passes its status to the Expansion Hub.

When the RAU detects a fault, it lights its ALARM LED red. When the RAU does not detect a fault, it lights the LED green.

The Expansion Hub queries the status of each RAU, and compares it to the previously stored status.

• When the Expansion Hub detects any faults on itself or its RAU, it lights one or more LEDs red.

• When the Expansion Hub detects any faults on itself or its RAU, it stores the informa-tion in its memory until the Main Hub queries its status.

The Main Hub queries status of each Expansion Hub and RAU, and com-pares it to previously stored status.

When the Main Hub detects a fault on itself or any other unit, it lights one or more LEDs red.

Use AdminMananger to communicate with remotely or locally installed systems.

When any unit detects a fault or warning condition, the Main Hub notifies AdminManager of the new status if there is an active AdminManager session.

4.4.2 Get Service InformationThe Get Service Information command is an easy way to collect valuable information about the system into a single file. This text file can then be used to document, trou-bleshoot, and maintain the system.

Use this command by selecting Tools Get Service Information. AdminManager saves the following information to a text file.

For a Unison or Accel system:

• The command retrieves the serial number, engineering part number, revision number, and firmware version from all the devices.

• The command retrieves the current operation band configured on the system, the uplink and downlink system gain, the uplink and downlink RAU attenua-tion configuration, the antenna disconnect event level, and the uplink ALC set-ting for each RAU connected to the system.

• The command retrieves all current faults, warnings, and status messages.• The command retrieves specific memory addresses from all the devices.• The command retrieves the fault and warning history logs from all the devices.

A dialog box pops up with a default file name generated from the system label, and current date and time, asking if you want to save all of the above information to the text file.

For a MetroReach system:

• The command retrieves the serial number, engineering part number, revision number, and firmware version from all the devices.

• The command retrieves the MFM label, system date and time, current opera-tion band, and current sector configuration.

Perform System TestThis command performs a functional test of the end-to-end RF path from the Main Hub to RAU. The system estimates cable length and system gain refinement during the system test. The system suspends RF propagation while it performs the test. For a fully loaded Unison system (one Main Hub, 4 Expansion Hubs, and 32 RAUs), the system suspends the RF propagation for 30 seconds, and command completion of the test can be up to 3 minutes. For a fully loaded Accel system (one Hub and 8 RAUs), the system suspends the RF propagation for 30 seconds, and command com-pletion of the test can be up to 1 minute. If you disconnect a passive antenna at the RAU, the system detects it only when you run this test. The results appear in the Mes-sage Panel.

Schedule System Test

This command displays a dialog box in which you can do the following:

Schedule System Test allows periodic, automatic execution of the system end-to-end test. Just like Perform System Test, a Schedule System Test suspends normal service for the duration of the test; calls are dropped, and no new calls can be established dur-ing the test. Test duration depends on the configuration (number of Expansion Hubs and RAUs) and requires one or two minutes to complete.

After completion of the system test, the scheduled system test time is updated to the next test time, and an event log entry is made.

There is no battery backup on the Hub, so the current date/time clock resets to 00:00:00, 1 Jan 2000 on a power cycle or reset. The scheduled system test date/time and test interval settings are saved, but the periodic execution of the system test is dis-abled.

The “Scheduled system test” checkbox enables (checked) or disables (unchecked) the scheduled system test.

To change the current date and time, click the Set System Time button.

AdminManager considers the “Next test time” invalid if it is earlier than the “Current system time.”

You can specify the test intervals in days, for 1 to 30, or in weeks, from 1 to 4.

The OK tab updates the scheduled system test parameters and closes the dialog box. The Cancel tab leaves the current system test parameters unchanged and closes the dialog box.

How to Use AdminManager

If you are using a modem connection, local time may be different between the Hub and AdminManager. Remember that system time is the local time of the Hub.

NOTE: The software date/time clock is driven by the 106.6667 millisecond interrupt on the MC68HC812A4 micro controller. Hardware accuracy is 30 to 50 ppm (over temperature), which results in a 2.6 to 4.3 second error per day, or 1.2 to 2.2 minutes per month (30 days), or 15.8 to 25.2 minutes per year.

The software clock should be resynchronized periodically to minimize drift. LGC recommends updating the current time a minimum of twice per year at daylight savings transitions, to resynchronize the software clock as well as reflect this shift in time.

Read and Save MemoryThis command helps an LGC Engineer or LGC authorized partner to diagnose the system. It issues specific commands to read memory locations and saves the informa-tion to a text file. The information also appears in the Message Panel. Do not use these commands without instructions from an LGC Engineer or LGC authorized part-ner.

Read and Save Fault and Warning LogsThis command does the following:

• Reads the fault and warning history logs and save them to a text file

• Displays the logs in the Message Panel

• Clears the logs.

The logs are circular and are overwritten when full. Do not use this command without instructions from an LGC Engineer or LGC authorized partner.

Another application is using the COM port

“System is off, cable is discon-nected or has an incorrect COM port selected; check Connection Settings” message is received immediately when the Admin-Manager starts.

Make sure to power on the Main or Accel Hub for at least 2 to 5 minutes (depending on the size of system).

Check the cable and connection; disconnect the cable, reconnect it and wait 1 minute to allow the Main or Accel Hub time to sense the change of state and then execute the Refresh System Status command if the status did not refresh automatically.

Try another Null modem cable.

Note: The null modem cable must support full hardware handshaking (refer to Appendix A).

Communication is attempted and “System is off, cable is discon-nected or incorrect COM port selected; check Connection Set-tings” message is received after about 30 seconds.

Cycle power to the Main or Accel Hub and wait 2 to 5 minutes, depending on the size of system, to reboot. If the message persists, replace the Main or Accel Hub.

The AdminManager is asking for a password when trying to issue a device command.

The default password is password. If this is changed, ask the responsible person for the correct password. If password is lost, contact LGC support.

Command timeouts. Fiber communication problems between the Main Hub and Expansion Hub can cause sig-nificant command response delays. Try the command again.

A.2.2 External WaveCom Wireless Modem

Setup the wireless modem for a circuit-switched data call (CSD) versus a voice call. Some wireless operators have a different phone number for CSD calls as a way to dif-ferentiate between a voice call and a CSD call.

• When you connect the Unison Main Hub to the modem using the RS-232 port and power it up, the Hub sends the initialization string to the modem. However, you must configure the correct initialization string for the modem:• Connect a PC running AdminManager directly to the Main Hub.• Start AdminManager. Right click on the Unison MH icon, select Unit Com-

mands and then Edit Modem Initialization String....

Figure A-1 Unit Commands

Enter the desired initialization string. The maximum string length is 64 charac-ters, as enforced by AdminManager v2.04 and up. Note that the system counts each carriage return as one character. Review the string after typing it to ensure the initialization string is programmed correctly into the system.

DB-9 to DB-9 Null Modem Cable and Modem Set Up

• Refer to Section , “Edit Modem Initialization String,” on page 4-17 for more details.

• On the wireless modem side, LGC recommended the following commands. The wireless modem should be configured for a data connection with a 9600 bearer in non-transparent mode (CICB=0 and CBST=7,0,1).• ATS0=1• AT&D2• AT+ICF=2,2• AT+IFC=0,0• AT&S0

• On the AdminManager side of the connection, LGC recommends the following initialization commands, assuming you are using a POTS modem:• ATZ4• ATE0&N6• ATS0=1

LGC recommends you attempt to get the modem-to-modem connection working first using two PC’s and a HyperTerminal. It is much easier to debug the link when you have easier access to the modem responses and can easily change the modem config-uration from the keyboard. Once you have the link working, you can program the cor-rect initialization strings into the Main Hub and AdminManager.

APPENDIX B Using Advanced RAU Settings

B.1 Using the 0 dB to 10 dB Attenuation Setting

Each RAU can, independently of the other RAUs in a system, have its uplink or downlink gain attenuated from 0 dB to 10dB. Accomplish this by selecting the atten-uation value in the “Advanced RAU Settings” dialog box. There are two boxes: one for setting the downlink attenuation and another for setting the uplink attenuation.

• Downlink AttenuationDownlink attenuator provides a mechanism to reduce the signal strength from an RAU. For instance, this could be for an RAU located near a window in a tall build-ing that is causing excessive leakage to the macro-network. In such a case it is important to attenuate the downlink only. The uplink should not be attenuated. If the uplink is attenuated, the uplink sensitivity is reduced and mobile phones in the area of that RAU has to transmit at a higher power. This increases interference to the outdoor network from such mobiles.

• Uplink AttenuationUplink attenuator attenuates environmental noise picked up by an RAU located in an area where heavy electrical machinery is operating. In such environments the electrical noise can be quite high and it is useful to reduce the amount of such noise that gets propagated through the distributed antenna system. Attenuating the uplink of an RAU located in areas of high electrical noise helps preserve the sensitivity of the rest of the system.

Activating the uplink or downlink attenuators reduces the coverage area of the adjusted RAU. For example: if you attenuate by 10 dB, the coverage radius is reduced by roughly a factor of 2. More specifically, if d is the coverage distance with-out attenuation and d’ is the coverage radius with the attenuation, then

Using Advanced RAU Settings

B.2 Using the Uplink ALC Setting

Uplink automatic level control (UL ALC) circuitry within the RAU provides auto-matic level control on high-power signals in the uplink path. This functionality is required to prevent RF signal compression caused by a single or multiple wireless devices that are in very close proximity to an RAU. Compression causes signal degra-dation and, ultimately, bit errors, and should be prevented. Two settings are available to optimize UL ALC performance:

• Single Operator and Protocol: Use when only one operator and protocol is on-the-air within the Unison system’s configured and adjacent frequency bands (rarely used).

• Multiple Operators: Use when more than one operator and/or protocol is present in the Unison system’s frequency or adjacent frequency bands (almost always used).

The following table shows the frequency bands that are adjacent to the bands for which the system is configured.
