ADITYA BIRLA HIGHER SECONDARY SCHOOL, VIKRAM NAGAR, KHOR. I Bi-Annual Report Dear Parents, 27 September, 2013 Hearty Welcome! My greetings to you all. We have always been committed to create an environment in the school which helps the young minds to blossom and provide a platform for individual thinking and holistic development of the child’s personality. This academic session witnessed repositioning, restructuring and refocus. The span was very much a time of consolidating and strengthening up ready for the new shape. This coming year will see significant movement and influence from the school in powerful and meaningful learning. By providing a well structured, interactive and engaging curriculum, and by promoting exemplary behaviour, we aim to enthuse in all children a love of learning as well as respect and care for each other. We look forward with the scene of hope, towards greater growth and progress. We are proud to acknowledge that we had good results, achievements in academics, co- curricular and extra curricular activities this year. I proudly place before you the achievements of our students and the progress of our school from April 2013 to September 2013 in this I Bi-Annual Report of the school. General Overview : This academic year 2013-14 began with all modern vibrancy with the new Principal Ms. Sushma Sharma taking charge from Sh. R. C. Chaturvedi, the former Principal. I believe ABHSS is a special place where all our staff are committed, dedicated professionals who provide a stimulating, exciting environment where everyone feels valued and safe, ideas can flourish and pupils can realize their full potential. Scholastic Distinction : Excellence in academics is the hallmark of any good institution. Class X and XII board results of the school proved without an iota of doubt that our students have done us proud. Result of class X and XII board of session 2012-13 was 100%. 78 students out of 87 passed in first division in class X board exam. Shubham Maheshwari of class X topped the school by securing 90% marks. Sapna kunwar Rathore, Mangilal Rathore and Shubham Maheshwari secured 100% marks in Mathematics in class X board exam. 10 students got distinction in all 6 subjects. Total 83 students appeared in class XII board exam. 54 students out of 57 of Science faculty and 20 students out of 26 of Commerce faculty passed in first division. Anita Sahu of Maths stream topped the Science faculty by securing 85.40% marks. Amit Paliwal and Naveen Kumar Sharma stood together at first position in Commerce faculty by securing 80% marks. 07 students got distinction in all 5 subjects. We take this opportunity to congratulate the students for their excellent performance and best wishes for a bright future ahead. Academics : Three fold program has been emphasized on Board Result, Discipline and Spoken English. For improving the results a planned academic strategy is implemented comprising remedial classes for the underperformers and Enrichment Classes for the high achievers, scheduled monthly tests, home work time table, routine copy correction, etc. For improving the board class result two Pre-board exams are planned for the board classes. Discipline : Disciplinary measures like surprise bag checking, out-going pass, discouragement for long absence, wearing school uniform on last working day too, no leave without application signed by the parents, etc. are taken into action. Language Proficiency : For improving the level of spoken English of the students the Group Discussion periods have been placed in time table. The morning assembly is conducted in English. All Motivation Boards are written in English, daily NEWS and thought is written in English. Students have to learn five new words of English everyday. Investiture Ceremony : Investiture Ceremony has been held for the First time in school. It was the most awaiting event for the students. It was a grand colourful celebration in which Student’s Council was formed with an objective to develop the sense of leadership and democracy among the students. It plays an important role in being a mediator between the students and the school management. The newly appointed members of the Prefectorial Board respectfully echoed their oath at the swearing in ceremony. The members were given sashes and badges by the Chief Guest Honourable Sh. R. K. Mohanty V.P. ( HR, P&A) VCW, Guest of Honour Mrs. Smruti Mohanty and the Principal of the school. Information Technology : In the present digital era, the development in various aspects of computer technology has reached beyond our imagination and expectation. It is very useful in teaching and learning process. Therefore, computer literacy is very much needed for teachers as well as learners. The computers have created a revolution in the content of education. Pacing with new technological time, teaching in Smart Class Room is started. Every teacher is given a schedule to take his class to the Smart Class Room and to teach the lesson through Light & Sound. This gives a visual form of the lesson to their minds and makes them associate with the abstract of lesson. Primary Section : Our Primary section has experienced a fruitful change. Activity Based Learning has been an earning wheel of this section. Students are involved in study planning. Class Activities and Smart Class Teaching have become a regular feature of their curriculum and making them Smart in real. P.T. and Yoga sessions are conducted every week. Music and dance periods are utilized to incorporate the value of appreciation towards fine arts in the young minds. Orientation Programmes : Our teacher Sh. A. K. Arora, PGT Economics, participated in two days workshop on Effective Economics Teaching organized at PRFS Mathura .Workshops on Computer Application, Operation of Modern Information Technological Tools & Software and Interactive Teaching & Class Room Management have been organized for all staff members in the school by the Principal. Science : Our students participated in Science Fair, organized by State Institute of Science education, Jabalpur and sponsored by N.C.E.R.T. and M. P. School Education Department. 8 students are selected for the District level competition. Literature : “Arunodaya”, the true reflection of school and the honest attempt of writing skills of our students, the third edition of school’s annual magazine was released in the month of June. Library : Our library has become the most favourite place of students. Grades for reading are awarded and points are taken into account for the selection of Smart Boy & Smart Girl of the month. A wide variety of audio-visual CDs, competitive books, books on contemporary issues, subject reviews, journals, magazines of Hindi & English, etc. are the attraction of our library and have become the tools of inculcating knowledge. A large number of new books are added to the library for enhancing the knowledge. 40 new chairs are added for comfort reading.

My greetings to you all. We have always been committed to create an environment in the school which helps the young minds to

blossom and provide a platform for individual thinking and holistic development of the child’s personality. This academic session

Scholastic Distinction: Excellence in academics is the hallmark of any good institution. Class X and XII board results of the

school proved without an iota of doubt that our students have done us proud. Result of class X and XII board of session 2012-13

was 100%. 78 students out of 87 passed in first division in class X board exam. Shubham Maheshwari of class X topped the

Cultural & Social Integrity: A large number of students participated in the national level quiz competition Transforming

Indians to Transform India organized by Chinmaya Mission. An essay writing competition Mogli Bal Mahotsava 2013 was

organized at Block level and our students got selected for the District level. Our students participated whole-heartedly in the

Nationwide Cancer Control Programme, organized by the Cancer Aid Society, in the charity collection effort. An amount of Rs.

37,423/- was raised as donation for the patients of Cancer. The students were awarded certificate, medals and cups for their

contribution for charity work. Environmental Awareness: Keeping up with the spirit of environmental awareness the children, on the occasion of Earth Day,

planted saplings promising their commitment towards a Greener Planet. Vikram Cement Safety Department organized a slogan,

poster and essay writing competition on account of Environment Day. Our students participated and bagged the maximum prizes.

Health & Hygiene: A seminar on Health & Hygiene in Adolescence was organized in school by Dr. (Mrs.) A. Chaudhary of

Vikram Hospital. Awareness program on Cancer was organized in school by the Cancer Aid Society. A training programme of

Yoga and Pranayam was held by Pt. Nitya Gopal Shastri to keep our body and mind healthy. Activities of Health club are held

for all the classes once a week through Meditation, P.T., Aerobics, Yoga etc. Safety & Awareness: To and fro bus service is made available for the students of Kesharpura and Nayagaon. This is the most

important decision taken and implemented by the school management to ensure the Students’ Safety. Identity Cards are made for

the First time for the students of classes UKG to XII. Vikram Cement Works observed the National Fire Safety Week from 15

April to 21 April 2013. A campaign on Fire Fighting Skills was organized in school on 17 April 2013 by Fire & Safety

Department of VCW. Live demonstration of Fire Extinguishers was a learning and worth remembering experience for our

students. Thanks to safety department of VCW.

Celebrations: Celebration of festivals makes the school another home for students. Independence Day, Janmashtami, Teacher’s

Day and Hindi Divas have been celebrated in school. Our students took command to organize and conduct the events and

participated in all the celebrations in the right festive spirit. The 67th Independence Day was celebrated with enthusiasm &

patriotic fervour by the students and staff of our school. The programme began with the unfurling of the national flag by the Chief

Guest Honourable Sh. Chander Shekhar, Executive President, VCW. Students presented a colourful cultural programme and

filled the air with the feeling of patriotism. Janmashtami was celebrated with full joy and enthusiasm. Students made the day

traditional and sacred by their performance. The school celebrated the Teacher’s Day on 5th September. The celebration was

inaugurated by lighting the ceremonial lamp by the Principal of the school, followed by a complete entertainment programme

prepared by the students. Hindi Divas was celebrated on 14th

September. The importance of our mother tongue and a national

language was deeply highlighted by the Principal in her address to the students.

Prizes: The brilliant results and splendid achievements are taken into consideration and any good work that brings good name to

the school is accordingly felicitated. The remarkable achievements of our students and excellence of our teachers were recognized

and prized on Independence Day by the Chief Guest Honourable Sh. Chander Shekhar, Executive President, VCW and our

Guest of Honour Mrs. Sudesh Sehdev. Shahbaaz Hussain Ansari of class X A was awarded cash prize and a certificate for

holding the first position by securing 90% marks in class X board exam. Sapna Kunwar Rathore, Mangilal Rathore and Shubham

Maheshwari were awarded cash prize and a certificate each for securing 100% marks in Mathematics in class X board exam. Our

teacher Ms. Rekha Jhariya has been awarded cash prize and a certificate for producing highest subject average 84.30% in Science

in class X and 84.48% in Biology in class XII board exam. 100% attendance awards and class topper awards were also distributed

for classes UKG to XII for the session 2012-13.

Valediction: A farewell ceremony was organized on 30th

April to bid Adieu to the outgoing Principal Sh. R. C. Chaturvedi after

rendering his valuable services for more than 2 decades. I was on a short visit to USA therefore could only convey my best wishes

to him over the phone from America.

Co-Scholastic Activities: The school looks at each learner as a unique ‘Whole Person’ with inherent genius, special capabilities

and unlimited potential. By providing a conducive and encouraging environment the learners are mentored to participate in a

variety of inter school activities and competitions. We expose our students to competitions to help them build confidence.

Outlined below are some of the various Inter House Competitions-

Sanskrit Shaloka competition for middle group, Hindi Calligraphy competition for primary group A, Group Song competition

for primary group B, Solo Song competition for senior group, English Poem Recitation competition for UKG group and primary

group, English Story Telling competition for primary group B, Hindi Debate for middle group, Fancy Dress competition for

UKG and primary group A, Hindi Poem Recitation for primary group B and for senior group was organized on Hindi Divas.

Activity Clubs: Another initiative of this year is the creation of Activity Clubs. We have 13 special interest clubs. Students can

choose them as per their interest. The activities of these clubs are tactfully associated with the academic sphere sparing their

recreation part too. These clubs are playing significant role in improving applied skills of our students.

Sports: Our school showed admirable commitments in sports and games. District level (under 16) Cricket competition was

hosted by our school. The competition was inaugurated by the Principal Ms. Sushma Shrama as the chief guest. Our Cricket

(under 14 and under 16) teams were the winner of District level cricket. 6 Boys were selected in Cricket (under 14) for Division

level and out of them 2 are selected for state level cricket competition. In Cricket (under 16) team 6 boys were selected for

Division level cricket. Our Cricket girls (under 19) team was runner up at Division level and 4 girls are selected for State level

participation. Our football team was a part of the winning team at district level. Our students participated in District Level

Athletic Meet. 6 students got first position in different events and were selected for the Division Level Athletic Meet. 5 girls and 3

boys of our school are selected for Division Level Table Tennis.

CRC : - CRC cell stood forward in the month of June and July to help the students of class IX to XII for their career planning.

Students of class X were given proper guidance to choose their stream by the internal CRC members of the school.

Infrastructural Expansion: We are happy to inform you that we have upgraded our infrastructure including two new rooms.

These rooms will be utilised as the Art & Craft and Cultural Activity rooms.

PTA: The first PTA meeting of the academic session 2013-14 was held on 24th

August 2013. A detailed discussion took place on

intensive planning for the development of students and growth of the school. We value highly the partnership between home and

school and encourage all parents to take an active part in the education of their children. The school cannot work in isolation. The

partnership between school staff and parents is an essential one. Together we can set goals and challenges and build a school in

which we can all be proud of.

Meeting with Board Classes: Two consecutive meetings with the parents of students of class X and XII were organized on

23.09.13 and 24.09.13. It has been a fruitful bipolar discussion with an abstract of measures for enrichment and upliftment of

board class students to improve the quality of the board result.

Go Home Safely After School ! Students’ Safety is our first and foremost concern. We have taken utmost care for this issue.

Important and useful instructions for their safety are given at regular intervals. Some of them are worth mentioning-

1. Walk safely.

2. Come and go straight home.

3. Do not loiter in or around school after school hours.

4. While crossing the road, use the designated pedestrian crossing only.

5. Don’t be familiar with any stranger to and fro from the school.

6. Wear your Identity Card until you reach home.

3. Training Programs/Workshops for Teachers & Students

5. N.C.C./Scout & Guide training.

Commitment Statement: Whatever the needs of your child and whatever special interests they have, we aim to ensure your child

thrives at ABHSS feeling safe, having fun and enjoying success in all areas of school life. We want our pupils time in our school

to be memorable, build on what they know and can do and help them becoming lifelong learners. I remain determined to continue

to improve to outstanding in everything we do.
